Nobody teaches the golf swing the way you do Rob, a great lesson with an easily understood explanation of how this part of the golf swing works. Thanks
Great explanation for me, a dedicated baseball grip swinger! I've never heard it put this simply. You've earned my like and sub. I'll be binge watching your vids for more gems like this one starting today. 🍿
Brilliant explanation, particularly as to how the grip can expedite a constant radius. I have always had my right hand well under the shaft, and look forward to making the alteration that you suggest. I very much appreciate that you not only suggest *what* we need to do, but also provide detailed information as to *how* to implement swing changes.
this is an epiphany rob it absolutely nails it as the one missing piece of the puzzle personally, thankyou ! it now feels like a solid repeating swing i can control.
Best tip ever for immediate results of increasing swing speed and also improving integrity of my swing. Swing speed increased from yesterdays 80 average (first day after winter layoff) to 90 today. Last year was my first year of stack and tilt. I'm convinced it's the way to go for me. I believe this tip will also greatly help ball striking consistency - my greatest issue. Thanks Rob!!!
Thanks Rob, I had been turning my right hand under in an effort to keep my inner elbows pointing out and keep my rear elbow into my side...and never realised that this was why I had a problem keeping my lead arm straight. I will take what you say on board and change my grip. Thanks again for all your brilliant advice.
Best video on grip I have ever seen! I can’t wait to take this to the range. This will help me to get the width that has been so elusive in my backswing.
Aabsolute simple but so effective Tried it today at mosselbay golf club south Africa my home club and took six shots off my normal score Thank you thank you
Without doubt the best explanation of how to stop the arms breaking down that I've seen. A regular 'chicken wing' issue in my golf game and I look forward to using the feeling of pushing the right arm away in the backswing and trying to bring those arms down straight into impact!
This has got me back on track. I fell victim to taking advice from other RU-vid sites. Rotational type golf channels seemed similar as they were saying some of the same things as S&T but I did not realize that they were also saying very destructive things to the S&T swing, like keep right arm bent past impact, keep the upper body and arms back and do not release the wrists and just rotate hard. My fault I know, but unfortunately their are limited S&T channels which is too bad for the golfing community.
I have always struggled to keep my ( left ) lead arm straight during the backswing and thru contact...I found this simple drill of applying a little outward pressure with my right hand , immensely helpful !!! ...thanks much Rob
Thank you. This right hand position has opened up my whole body. Such a small detail but the difference is incredible. Cant wait to go to the range and try it.
Tried it out on the range today ...had much more structure as you say ...a firmness to the strike of the ball ... Thanks for the video ... never heard this description before ... cheers in the covid world
Great video, the point about the right bend and straight left arm has recently clicked and I was able to strike the ball consistently. I wasn’t rotating enough in the back swing and my left arm was breaking down causing all sorts of problems. My swing thought now is to rotate sufficiently in order to maintain a straight left arm and so far it’s been effective.
Excellent... dying to try this as i have been focussing on my left arm the whole time... i can keep it straight when i stretch without a club but always see it slightly bent on videos... right arm focus 🤟😊
I am soooo glad I ran across your video! I have been struggling with the back swing - specifically the chicken wing on the backswing and inconsistent ball striking. Never even considered the right hand position. I'll work on this drill. Details, details .... Thanks again!
Rob: I only follow a couple of teaching pros on YT (which has become a horribly anti-free speech / high censorship platform). However, after stumbling across your channel and despite being somewhat underwhelmed by the relatively low-tech production values of of your videos--I've now subscribed and Absolutley Love It! You are one of those Very, VERY Rare individuals that can effectively communicate keenly focused, high-impact aspects of the golf swing that can be understood and implemented to great effect by the average golfer! (I include myself in that category only loosely and only then on a good day!) Thanks so much! We are all lucky to have you. Best regards, Todd Williams Chicago, IL
As always, exactly the advice I needed. I had been strengthening my right hand grip in hopes of it staying cupped at top of swing, might be doing the total opposite!
Wow, I've never been told this before but I recognize what he is saying in the golf swing of the really good golfers I play with. Is this the missing link in my game. Going straight to the range to test this out. Thank you!
Playing tomorrow, best tip ever on grip, I have always had an underhand hold with the right and a breakdown with the right arm going back, this will eliminate my weak point. Thanks Rob from NZ
A lot of pros don't keep their left arms straight - Westwood, Garcia, Goosen, Fowler, Lexi Thompson and, of course, Calvin Peete who had a permanently bent left arm. Jimmy Ballard who coached Strange, Player and Sutton to name but a few of his major championship winners said all you need to do is keep your left arm connected, keep your elbows pointing down throughout and maintain the triangle. Doing this, he says, will keep your clubface square at all times during the swing - and I find it does. I have no trouble with bending my left arm and I find it a much easier way to swing.
Correct, the majority of pros consider the left arm being straight as incidental. It is a mere consequence of other things. It’s what is happening at impact that matters. A proper left arm is all about proper body rotation.
Great video and really well explained also in simple terms, I struggle with keeping my left arm straight and your absolutely 100% correct about it being your right hand grip that causes the problem as that's exactly what I used to do as well until I got a lesson from a golf pro and he pointed it out to me while videoing my swing so I could see it back myself afterwards. Changing my right hand grip to bring it more over on top of the grip shaft rather than under felt very strange and awkward for a while as old habits die hard as they say and it's still a work in progress but yes you are spot on for sure... ⛳👏😊👍
Thanks again Rob a nice reminder how important getting the grip correct sometimes I get a bit armsy and forget to turn correctly will concentrate on this at the range next time 👍
Great lesson! Purchased a divot board and although I’m keeping my weight forward and arms straight my divots start behind the ball. Any suggestions? Thank you for your wonderful lessons! Ed
Excellent explanation on how not to bend your left hand. Do we still nee to ensure the lower body and chest moves together with the hands? Can't wait to try this out soon. Thanks Bob.
@@golftecasia I've played twice this year because we are in lockdown again. Shot 72 and 90+. I definitely need to get a more consistent strike to build confidence and actually allow me to enjoy golf.
tried it today helped ; one question, you have to switch to baseball or varney ; interlocking seems to limit my ability to get right thumb pad on top. Thoughts?
Hi Rob, I’m learning more and more each time I see the video. With the grip as described today, I’m assuming that the right arm wrist and hand produce a pronounced “hit” to the ball through impact. I had previously thought that the un hinging of the wrist or the hit was a natural product of gravity and centrifugal force. Your thoughts on that please, do I make the hit or does it just happen. Thank you. JB
Rob, need assistance on my right arm which has limited extension due to elbow surgery. I a good at keeping it flexed but I am limited in external rotation at the top and I feel it compromises my ability to stay connected. I thus have a shorter swing with less power. Can you recommend a drill for my limited right elbow. My grip is right on and I work on it faithfully. But my extension of my left arm is actually limited due to the right arm elbow. Thanks for any comments. I am loving being subscribed to you lessons. How does on work with you from the US.
Hi Rob, great video. Thanks. I My left arm is before the impact and at impact and also later bent...My backswing is solid so not flexing of right arm etc...Not sure why this happens. Overall the ball contact is good. However, I want to keep thr left arm straight.. Does the right hand grip on your fingers? I have this neutral grip as well. I would be happy to know what else I could do? Maybe keep the left arm connected straight to chest until follow through....Thank you for your help.
I could not rid myself of lead arm chicken wing until I used my driver cover under my left armpit to keep the elbow down. Finally healed after 2 years.
Could you comment on the role of connection of the right upper arm to the chest. I find if I keep the right upper arm against the chest for the majority of the backswing, it forces a turn rather than a lift from the left arm and allows a better turn. If I let the upper arm separate, the left arm lifts and pushes the right elbow backwards, limiting the turn.
Really helpful Rob to understand that where one places the right hand is important too! I've been using a stronger grip with my left hand & this has really helped. Can you comment on where the thumbs should be. Some say on top of the shaft & others say that they should be toward the side of the shaft. Thoughts on that?
Hi, nice video, doesn't flexibility pay a roll in keeping the left arm straight ? I am really enjoying watching your videos but not enough said that golf is a physical game and fitness and flexibility pays an 85 percent roll in being a good golfer. Most coaches point out how the tour players are doing it, but its not mentioned that the reason they can do it is because spending 85 percent of their time is spent in the gym to be able to get themselves in good golfing positions, you only have to look at Nick Taylar how he as nearly doubled his size in the last few years. what are your thoughts. thanks
