Another reason people lose weight while increasing calories is because with the higher calories they stick to their plan better and end up actually consuming fewer calories because they're no longer binging on their low calories. So while their TARGET calories are up, the actual CONSUMED calories are lower.
I've done your calculator which gives me 1970 calories per day to lose 4 lbs to get to 165 lbs. I ate about 1,750 to 2,000 calories per day for six months and lost 3 lbs in that time. In mid-May I started increasing my daily calories slowly to about 2,400 per day (currently eating 2,400-2,500) and in a month I dropped 3 lbs. I have maintained that lose for three weeks now. I would rather eat 2,400 per day, feeling good and nourished, to lose 1-2 lbs per month than eat 1,970 calories per day and not lose anything. I train at the gym 4-5 days per week and walk about 15,000 steps per day. I emphasize natural hygiene, early to bed, early to wake, sun, occasional fasting, etc. I'm 55 and prior to the past year, I was fairly sedentary.
Long time follower and I finally saw the calorie calculator video, I know you’ve recommend it for forever but I thought I knew everything I needed. I just bought a food scale and I’m determined to really check my calorie intake at least for a month. I know you’ll probably won’t care but I’m about to go on vacation and to know that I will be able to eat freely (just staying inside my calorie deficit intake) is really liberating. I know you’ll probably won’t follow up but I will 👍🏻
I'm so glad I've found your channel and just at the perfect time! I've just had my 2nd baby girl 3 months ago, and im so ready to take control over my body again. I want to be healthy for my daughters, i want to feel good and be confident again to be a good example, i want to be fit to do all the activities with them. I'm starting today. For accountability, I'm 190lbs today, and I've felt my best when i was a fit 145lbs just before having kids. Lets get back there!
You make it all so clear as usual, Jordan. A small request - could you please do summaries of points at the end with perhaps the list on screen? It would really help to remember them without going through the video bit by bit again. 😀
Love your videos so much! No BS, to the point, super helpful info every time AND you’re fun to listen to. Thanks for helping me get healthier (down a little over 70 pounds!)!
A good way is the 5/2 method. Two days of low-calorie intake combined with 5 days of normal calorie-intake which gives you a significant calorie deficit over 7 days while allowing your metabolism to stay higher.
As always, this is great information. Much of what you've shared aligns with my own experiences. Thank you for making this available so I can share it with my adult children. They will probably understand your approach to this topic better than I do.
I think when it comes to the increase in calories and then losing weight, also the sudden increase in calories gives them more energy and they are able to exercise more, or get more steps in.
What happens if you've had disordered eating for decades? My weight fluctuated every year 30-45lbs. S constant cycle of over restricting, bingeing, purging etc. I'm in a much healthier lifestyle, however, I'm still struggling to get to a healthy weight. Even working at a very active job, getting 20k steps a day and regular weight lifting, it feels impossible to get back to a healthy weight (after having 2 kids). I lose 20lbs, slowly and without restriction... Then I "relax" a little with tracking food and within a couple months I've gained back the weight. It's a little depressing because I still eat super healthy whole foods and I really don't want to be so tedious with my food anymore....
First off, I hope you have a good doctor and health team to help you out. Secondly doing some simple healthy activities should help your body weight for example, getting your protein in. That said, you need help from your doctor instead of the comment section. God bless, and I hope you get the support you need!
Your videos are so interesting and educational but unfortunately the camera zooming in and out continuously made me feel sick!!!! Please 🙏 ease up on the ZOOMING ❤
