Fixing the glitch might be very complicated or break the Ash of War for the Rykard fight giving how it's coded to be the default Ash of War in the AoW line up to ensure it's always usable for the Rykard fight.
Bless God aka Michael Zaki (your roommate) for nerfing the overpowered Sh(it)unter and for giving us the fair and balanced Swift Slash, Blind Spot, Impenetrable Thorns, and Bloodfiend's Arm
If ER PvP is a fighting game then Bloodfiend's arm is the grappler, people always think they're overpowered for a while after release because they do huge damage when they hit, but once they realise that getting that hit is a nightmare they fall down the tierlist at mach 2
@@Porygoyup if your opponent actually understands the game even a little they are never getting hit by bloodfiends in a million years and god forbid they play passive on top of that
I'll give this video a watch later tonight but I just want to remind you all Fromsoft are the same people who took away the black knight halberd's true combo in DS3 only to give us the splitleaf greatsword afterward. Its a common practice for them to nerf a lot of base game weapons (whether justified or not) to artificially prop up dlc weapons.
Its weird because most of the playerbase is complaining that the damage is too high, and in response, fromsoft guts the functionality of the weapon and keeps the damage the same. Like, not only did they not fix the problem, they removed any form of skill expression out of the weapon
@@cridus_ Spamming is extremely punishable by strafing and you wont be able to get a decent vortex going by just spamming. Skill expression comes from knowing know to free aim to avoid strafing and mixing up fast pokes and roll catch (which exposes you to the risk of getting mashed out of hit stun) to continue the vortex.
Serpent Hunter played the same as Blind Spot, just sit there and wait for reaction trade with 7 frame hyper armor. Yeah I get it, the DLC shit is overtuned but so was this. They all deserve a nerf.
@@bigrarkz7465my new favorite is people switching to Greatsword of Damnation spamming that ungodly ash of war whenever they start losing with the guts cosplay or weeabu build they showed up with! 😂😂😂
@@LiliumCruorem I would be fine with it if the hyper armour wasn’t so crazy and the hit box wasn’t so janky. At the moment all the shitter strategies are low risk high reward.
"at least we still have power stance great spears" I was with you until you said this, now I hate you with more righteous fury than I have ever hated a souls youtuber
This is exactly backwards. Unreactables create an incentive to not be passive since the ability to force predict rolls creates a strong incentive to break neutral. Weapons that have reactable attacks force the user into playing more passively which creates the “attack first, lose first” passivity you dislike. So no contradiction, just a fairly common misunderstanding of how the mechanics play out.
Ideally, i would balance crouch pokes by making all of them 13 frame startup but heavily reduce the damage, remove thrust counter damage properties on the attack, and change the hyper armor activation to like 9 or 10. This would give those weapons a presence in neutral but feel less punishing to people getting hit by the crouch poke. I think every weapon needs an unreactable attack to have any form of viability in a competitive pvp environment. Those unreactable attacks have to be balanced properly in order for the game to be healthy. Serpent hunter is like ugs now, there is just no mix at all anymore
GUGS is at least playable on low lat with its high dmg. Shunter always had pretty mediocre dmg, and it’s got nothing. Funny how it went from the best to worst 2H GSpear
There is no reason for any weapon to be unreactable. All that does is make people wanting to get into pvp leave and get people that are good at pvp to fight in a set of trades that ultimately lead to the higher vigor winning.
@@Silver4Hirei don't even think shunter was the best gs back then, lance had so many more upsides bc of greases like rot and ashes like fs, and its just as unreactable, also normal greases(not the dlc ones) would give you more dmg on cr1 without counter hit which is crazy lol
Great vid! The other thing that made pre1.10 shunter so satisfying is that it required free aiming in order to draw the most out of the weapon. This provided a strafe counter against inexperienced players while giving it a high skill ceiling for ppl that wanted to get good at free aiming the cr1
This a great video! I used to use this weapon a lot when the game first came out, before the crouch poke meta was a thing. I’ve since only recently started using it again like 1 month prior to patch 1.12, I must say this is a change I didn’t see coming, and I’m very disappointed about it! I was having a blast revisiting this weapon. I’ve since moved to using the tree spear and other great spears, but crouch swipe isn’t nearly as fun as crouch poke. RIP Shunter 😭
isnt the regular spear cr1 faster than it now? Ive been seeing a lot of success freeaiming my crouch attacks slightly to the right on messmer soldier spear to hit right as the animation starts
5:01 Pls give us old stormhaw axe, 367 damage that is just sad. Also it may just be a me thing but i really do not notice the nerf all that much when i play shunter.
Waves of darn kness takes double the time to activate, hand a huge purple orb and has a loud sound qeue. Stormhank was much faster and without any reactable sound bits
@@henfmh534 Only the ps4 version runs at 30 fps, and let's say you're right that that's what the video is going off of. That would mean that at a proper 60 fps, you had (13x2) 26 frames to react to the crouching attack. An attack that speed is very easy to react to every single time. A (15x2) 30 frame crouching attack makes no difference at that point whether it's reactable or not. So either way, those 2 frames of startup increase are inconsequential.
@@charliechuckles6494 exactly, it was already reactable before the patch, now it's just easier. The reason why I meantioned 30 fps is because the game's "logic" runs at 30. For 60 Fps everything is doubled and the startup is 26F pre patch/30F post patch
After the DLC, what RL do you enjoy invading at the most? I've beaten the DLC at RL80, but had to go to RL90 because it was impossible to not run 50 vigor in PvP. Now, I'm thinking on going to 125 because everything is an absolute blender and its pretty much mandatory to stack poise.
167 or 200. or at least 140. good luck finding people to invade in the DLC at lower levels. although maybe I'm underestimating how much having 2 people could cheese the DLC even at lower levels? I dunno.
I mean, is it really a nuke when 80% of its "great" moveset was 1 move It was a gimmick, gimmick is done This is a problem sith ER in general, but the shunter hurts more bc it was the Veterans set-BG taslisman-hardswap crimson seed -60vig 60str 10 fth-hardswap flaming strike dudes But many things in ER are crutching in ONE move: halberds, fancy greatswords, ultras, most PS setup, etc Aka im only using this to chainsaw laggards lol
Exactly, I hated it in the arena because many players just ha'ed through everything. But the nerf hits hard. They also fixed the tracking on great spears, right?
I'm gonna be blunt, I hate this weapon and hated seeing it used by sweaty gank squads. Fighting 3 people all mashing this weapon was cancer and I'm honestly glad I don't see it like at all anymore.
Whats with the stigma ppl have with crouch attacks, what is the difference between using crouch attacks as a main attacking tool instead of using r1 just as many times for mostly all weapons (just look at collosal weapons and ppl still like them), this salt about crouch weapons gotta be the most insane shit to me still lol
man, since patch 1.12 was release, i'm still trying to find a good "get off me" tool replacement for the stormhawk axe on my strenght build. surely that weapon was really ruined. do you have any suggestion??, i'm thinking on using some of them but there's always a BUT. like zamor cgs, which has a nice CC but it barely has hyperarmor and it's kinda slow. other one is using earthshaker which has a fast startup and high hyperarmor, but it does little damage and doesn't true combo. and the last one is the golden land of the great club which has good damage... but it's really heavy.
Horned Warrior's greatsword has the closest AoW to pre-nerfed Stormhawk Axe, it has longer reach, hits like a truck (1700 dmg or so) but HA is not that great from what I've seen
I'll check out the video when i can but yeah the crouch r1 nerf was unwarranted; only to introduce Skill slash and blind spot a day later lol truly miyazaki's tarded vision :^)
bad comparison, we're gonna have several patches that will fix these. the shunter on the other hand still had the old colossal greatsword crouch poke because when they nerfed it on these, they didn't notice they had given it to a great spear too. it was long overdue.
@@cridus_it isn't tho, shunter crouch poke is 20 times weaker than old ugs poke and even weaker than normal great spear cr1, i could go into detail but i won't bore you with the detail unless you ask
people shit on that running R2 hard but let me tell you, you use it, unlock from the target and full tilt the stick in the direction they roll, it will hit them everytime. Used to do it A LOT with the greatspear powerstance running L1. They NEVER expect it
I one shot three people in one day of Colosseum with the Serpent Hunter WA lmao It's easy to land for me since no one expects it, and it gets a crap ton of hyper armor.
The ash is not to be slept on, it has some of the best hyper armour in the game and can out trade just about anything. Plus sooo many people forget it has a follow up so you can do the first part at a safe distance to lure opponents into a false sense of security and send them to space when they run in for free damage.
7:10 The did it because in their book it was a good change, idk, taking extra time or not, they simply felt that not being interrupted with a heavy weapon is more fun, they balance the game as and for casuals. I thought pvp players already knew this, being Swift slash and Blind spot another proof of this
okai I know techniquly not the same weapon type, but doesn't sword lance just basically killed serpent hunter completely? the strategy at the end of the video is way more effective on sword lance and it's infusible...
@@bigirononmyhip3812 I am not sure that she's a she anymore but it's basically a former good DS3 player as well But basically you beat it by not not getting baited by all the blends and very good fundamentals There's a small duel with G9 on the channel and you can see an example right there
Shunter wasnt "skill expression". It was crouch R1, spin, crouch R1, jump r1. It wasnt a high skill ceilinh as much as it was a "groove" to get into. Constant roll catching isnt an expression of skill but rather lack of skill on opponents side if they cant roll. Against anyone with a good understanding of how to play It was a brain dead, boring meta. Along with dual spears. Parrying, fishing for back stabs, back step back stabs and mastering weapons that have good combos when unlocking were much more skillful than crouch r1. Boring to watch, boring to play and boring to fight against. And im not defending players who panick roll, but id just feel stupid using shunter against them. Its a cheap win imo.
One of my friends gets into lots of pvp groups and brings em around our non-pvp crowd (we do it sometimes but for fun) and whenever he brings pvptards they usually brought this thing a poise out the ass. Pvp is boring af when played against people like that
I genuinely would love a mode for Arena that’s just melee weapons. No spells, no ranged weapons, no consumables besides red pot and blue pot, no ashes of war. Just the weapons and the melee mechanics of the game. I enjoy pvp as is quite a bit. But it would be fun I think to have the ability to customize our own lobbies. I mean ofc I could probably find some people who are willing to uphold some house rules for this style of pvp. But finding friends is hard xD.
@@RofoTheGyrm I have played For Honor. It’s not what I am looking for. I wanna play Elden Ring pvp but with the parameters I laid out in the original comment.
@@RofoTheGyrm i’ll probably just have to find some likeminded folks that wanna give it a whirl. I haven’t tried it yet. So it might suck. But I just think it would be fun. The base mechanics of the combat are fun to me and I just wanna see if removing all of the other aspects of it besides melee weapons makes it more competitive in pvp. It also just might be more crazy and busted cause some weapons have really innately powerful movesets that normally can be countered with the other tools like sorceries and stuff. But I think it would be something I would enjoy from time to time. I don’t hate the way pvp is or anything. I just like trying different stuff. But sometimes it doesn’t work out. It could turn out that duels without all the extra stuff are boring or something!
I didn’t see any Shunters Before this update, and I definitely won’t see any now. Honestly the weapon was sick to use Durring Rykards fight, But after it definitely felt like a meme weapon, The Nerf Seems Undeserved Considering We got Dryleaf Arts AOW Palmblast which makes poise contests a joke and does astronomical amounts of damage. Honestly feel bad for you Shunter Mains this shit was not deserved. And to you, The one kid who got sauced by a Shunter and comment “Deserved” Your bad at the game lmao. 😂
Serpent Hunter's in a good spot now; I wouldn't say it's "killed" like the title implies. However, nobody asked for or needed Blind Spot the way it is now. The DS3 version was fine, but no... Swift Slash is still annoying, but they made it more bearable since last patch.
Uh no. This weapon was toxic and im glad its dead. This weapon had it coming with how many tryhards abused it. Im glad that these people have to pick a new weapon and not just feint
@@GrouseMan14 most shunter mains ONLY spammed crouch poke and adhd wavedashing. people whinged for eons about ultras crouch poke and it got nerfed so hard the weapon class is unusable against most people. I'm shocked it got nerfed at all
@@PseudoNym13 I dont get your point at all. people mostly use the crouch poke because its objectively the best attack. also ugs are really good against most opponents. I just think you have a little bit of a skill issue
Killed for people with no skill. Stop acting like it's impossible to play. Why do people still use colossal swords then? This one still has better jump and running attacks than them too. If I asked people like you, you would respond if it isn't Shamshir tier it's useless.
