Sprayer (Note: This is not the sprayer depicted in the video. This one works much better, but you need to dilute the pesticide one part product to four parts water. For Talstar P, put 6 oz of product in the sprayer and then fill to the 30 oz mark with water. Swirl it around a little as you add the water to mix it. I bought 5 black buckets from Dollar Tree for $1.25 each and filled them with water and put a couple drops of dish soap in each. Then I put them in shaded areas around my back yard and patio. It's been four days, and there are dozens of dead mosquitoes in each bucket. The mosquitoes prefer dark colors (black bucket) and they try to land on the water to lay their eggs but the dish soap makes it so that they cannot stand on the surface of the water and they drown. It's working a lot better than my $150 Dynatrap which seems to only catch moths and June bugs.

I'm sorry. I didn't see your comment until just now. For some reason I didn't get a notification that you commented. You can get the gloves and most anything you need either from www.domyown.com or Amazon. I find that their prices are comparable. I generally buy from Amazon because I'm a Prime member and I get free shipping, but I think www.domyown.com will ship for free if you order a certain amount. I haven't placed an order with them for awhile, but I think it's free shipping for orders over $35. Again, sorry for the deal in answering. This is a great video on how to treat for mosquitos. I've personally looked into a lot of options and methods to get rid of them. I had a few spots were standing water would be a problem which was beyond my control. I have a few spots in the yard that were uneven that I filled in with dirt, holes dug by animals that I filled in with dirt, a few uneven pavers, and a water collector connected to my gutter drains. I used mosquito dunks for the bigger areas and three mosquito bits for the smaller standing areas all over the yard. After eliminating all that I could I used a pesticide called Bifen IT. To try to make it more effective I added Tekko Pro to it which is an insect growth regulator. Since my yard is rather large at an half acre I figured that misting would be the best option. I have a backpack blower and there's a new product out called the Mosquito Sniper. This simply attaches to a sprayer and your blower creating the same effect as the expressive $300 - $1000 foggers that the pros use. Three total price for my chemicals were $110 but I have plenty for more applications in the future. I even treated my neighbor's yard just to be proactive. The Mosquito Sniper is about $45 and it's an investment that's well worth it if you have a handheld or backpack blower. Since I stay in Florida I treat my yard every 3 months or so.

@@GuysPestSolutions surprisingly I haven't seen any mosquitos or bugs I would normally see in our around my house. I treat the house first by using a cobweb duster. I spray it down with the pesticide and go over all eves, windows, and doors to remove webs and spiders. After that I use my Mosquito Sniper on my blower to blow the pesticide on the house up to 3 feet from the ground, all of the bushes, along my fence line, and all of the trees in the backyard. It's been a few months and so far I haven't seen any and every time I sprayed I would see a lot of dead bugs so I highly recommend Talstar P or Bifen IT because it really works.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
@@darrylpolite8722 Yes. I cannot imagine that you would have any mosquitoes if you are doing this type of treatment. The treatment you are doing should be just about 100 percent effective. I don't see how you could possibly do any better. You are correct that both Talstar P and Bifen IT are great products. They are pretty much the same thing, but the Bifen costs a little less. Some pest controllers have reported that they don't think that the Bifen works as well as the Talstar, but personally I don't see why there would be any difference. I have to admit though that I have not used the Bifen myself. I think either one would be fine for most pests and certainly for mosquitoes. They both contain equal concentrations of bifenthrin and that is the perfect pesticide for mosquitoes. I think I am going to buy some Bifen IT and give it a try. The only reason I have been recommending Talstar is because I try not to recommend products that I have not actually used myself. Anyway, you are doing a great job. Thanks for letting me know. Please share me with others. I love helping people. Be well my friend.

Sorry anybody that says eliminate misquote s totally is not right, you ever been to northern Manitoba, they will just keep coming. But great video well worth watching.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
I have never even heard of Manitoba, so I'll take your word for it. I'm guessing that you have a lot of forested area up there and that would be conducive to a large mosquito population. You are correct that the treatment depicted in this video is only going to eliminate the mosquitoes where the treatment was applied. While mosquitoes do not usually travel too far away from their breeding areas, as with all living things, the mosquitoes do not always get the memo that they're supposed to do what we expect them to do. Even though mosquitoes usually don't travel very far from where they breed, they are capable of traveling fairly long distances. Therefore, if you live in an area where there is a large population of mosquitoes, then it is very likely that some of these guys are going to fly over into your yard. So, while you are going to kill the mosquitoes in your yard 100%, that doesn't mean you won't get some mosquitoes paying you a visit from other areas. That being said, you will probably notice a huge difference in the number of mosquitoes that are on your property. I live in a residential neighborhood and it is very rare for mosquitoes to come over into my property, even though a lot of the neighbors do you have mosquito populations. Nevertheless, it does happen from time to time. If your property adjoins wooded areas and you can gain access to those areas, then you can go in there and try to remove any water sources that may exist. Obviously, you cannot do everything to remove water sources on property that you do not own, but you can put a mosquito dunk into breeding areas where you cannot eliminate the water. The further out from your property line that you can treat, the better. In my case, I remove the water sources from my neighbors on each side of my property. I cannot do the neighbors in the back and I cannot do the neighbors across the street, but just doing each side of my property helps tremendously. The truth is that I go outside at night all the time and I have not been bitten by a mosquito in years. That may not be the case for you, if you live in a largely wooded area, but I do think you are going to observe a tremendous reduction in the mosquito population. Your pets are not going to be harmed if they lick your shoes after you apply the product. The toxicity level of this material is so low at its diluted level that it will be of no consequence to your pets. The only thing you need to do is make sure that your shoes are dry before you allow your pets to lick them. If you still feel uncomfortable allowing your pets exposure to the shoes, then you may also want to consider disposable plastic shoe covers that are available from Amazon. You just slip them over your shoes and throw them away when you are finished. Thank you so much for watching the video. Please get back to me and let me know how you made out. Be well my friend.

@@GuysPestSolutions thank you for all you knowledge Guy, yes there’s close to hundred thousand lakes, and forested heavily, they actually put in a new development behind us and there’s probably a 2 acre pond, it use to be farm land, will that make a difference.? Also what do you think of those traps you put sent in and it runs off propane? Do they work? I’m in Alberta now, not as bad as Manitoba but still can’t go outside now, misquote s too bad, just rained for about 2 weeks, I have 2 of the propane heaters please tell me they work.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
@@duramax78 Let's start with the propane devices that kill mosquitoes. To be totally honest with you, I have never used one of these devices. For me, I find them to be too expensive to purchase and maintain. For one thing, they run on propane and propane costs money. Now, they do kill a lot of mosquitoes, but like all of these types of devices, they provide coverage for a fairly limited area. It is unclear exactly how much area they will protect, but I do not suspect that it will be very large. I say that because mosquitoes typically do not fly very far from the area where they intend to lay their eggs. So, there are a couple of different strategies you can use if you're employing these devices. You can place them near breeding areas that cannot be controlled by removing the water or the use of mosquito dunks. The other option would be to place them in areas where you are going to be spending time. The thing is though, they kind of operate by mimicking the presence of a human. The idea is that these devices try to trick the mosquitoes into thinking that the device is a source of a blood meal. While they do a pretty good job of this, it would be kind of like having two people go out into a mosquito infested area. The mosquitoes aren't going to just attack one of those people. So, if you have a lot of mosquitoes and you are standing in the facinity of one of these devices, then it seems highly likely that the mosquitoes are not only going to go after the device, but after you as well. So, if you want to know if they work, then the answer is yes. They do have the capability of killing a lot of mosquitoes, but they are no panacea in solving your mosquito problem. Now let's talk for a minute about those lakes, ponds, and wooded areas. Mosquitoes do not like large bodies of water or deep bodies of water. Also, they do not like moving water. Therefore, unless there are edges of the ponds or lakes that have small puddles, then the mosquitoes are probably not going to breed in those lakes and ponds. The problem with these areas is that, often times there are low lying areas that surround lakes and ponds that do have a tendency to collect small amounts of water. That is to say, puddles. This is where you are most likely to find mosquitoes breeding. They also like to breed in the forest. You would be surprised how many areas of standing water you will find in wooded areas. It does not take much water for mosquitoes to breed. So, you will find them in trees where a limb has fallen off and created a small pocket where water can collect. You may also find shallow water in limbs that have fallen off and hollowed out or water that is simply puddling on the ground. Mosquitoes also love forested areas because there is often a lot of shade and ground cover such as fallen leaves or pine needles. Mosquitoes cannot be exposed to direct sunlight or they will die. So, wooded areas provide the perfect place for them to hang out during the day and just wait for unsuspecting prey to pass by. The only good news is that mosquitoes do not usually travel very far from the area where they intend to lay their eggs. While it is certainly possible for them to fly quite a long way, they almost always never do. Most of the time, the females are going to find a place where they can shield themselves from the sun and just wait for unsuspecting prey to pass by and then they will launch their attack. This will typically happen in the evening hours or on cloudy days. That this because they wish to avoid the sun. Of course, given that forests can be quite shady, then that offers the perfect opportunity for them to also attack during the day. So, for me, the best way to treat mosquitoes is to go after the areas where they breed. That is why I offer to treat the neighbors properties as well. If I lived next to a forested area though, I would attempt to walk through that area and look for places where mosquitoes may be breeding and I would either eliminate that water or simply treat it with a mosquito dunk. You don't have to do the entire forest either. I find that, most of the time, mosquitoes don't fly more than about 300 feet from the area where they intend to breed. So, if you can create a 300-foot breed free zone around your property, then you are probably not going to see a whole lot of mosquitoes after that. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

Thanks for the excellent info on mosquito. Mosquito populations can be managed, but eliminating them is hmmmmm another thing (next to impossible). I was hoping you were going to use a Mistblower which is the best equipment for turning over the leaves.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 3 года назад
You are correct. There are a lot of mosquitos out there and a lot of the time you cannot treat your neighbors yard. I can do the yards next to me, but I cannot do the ones in the back of my property and I'm sure they have standing water somewhere. I've been lucky though because the mosquitoes have not ventured past the fence into my yard. It is a pain to keep up with it though. I purposely did not suggest using anything like a fogger or anything like that because most folks do not want to spend that kind of money. That is what the pros use and it's super fast, but even a cheap one runs over three hundred dollars. The best thing with leaves is to simply remove them. That is not always possible if you live in or near a wooded area, but it's like you said about how impossible it is to eliminate them. Generally, the best you can do is to eliminate the breading locations on your property and then hope for the best. If you don't have any standing water on your property, then the population is going to go down significantly. If they can't breed, then they can't bite. I don't even use much pesticide for them. I just remove all standing water from my property and the folks on either side of me and that's it. I never have a problem. The only place I do treat with pesticide is a culvert pipe under my driveway near the road. There is no way that I can remove the standing water deep inside the pipe. As you saw in the video, I just use a can of fogger for the pipe. I also do the pipes in the neighbors' yards as well, including across the street. So far, no mosquitoes. Every once in awhile one manages to get onto my property and attacks, but generally I can walk anywhere on my property and never encounter one. So, water management goes a long way toward controlling these gals. Anyway, I wish you luck with it. Thanks for the comment. Be well my friend.

Great content on spraying pests around the house. One question? Where does all your rinse water from cleaning your equipment go?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 3 года назад
It's perfectly okay to simply dump the rinse water on the lawn. Hopefully you used up all the pesticide in the sprayer prior to cleaning it. So, when you rinse it out the pesticide is super diluted anyway and it will not harm the lawn or the environment. You don't want to put this down the drain in in a storm sewer. It's best to just let it leach into the ground. I hope that helps.

Great job Guy. Thank you for these video's. Video request on treating properties with standing water on them. FL summer area of property is under 3-5 in of water. @GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
Hi Shawn. Hmmmmm. When you say that the property is under 3-5 inches of water, exactly how much of the property are we talking about? This is the perfect depth for mosquitoes to breed. You know from my video that the best treatment is to drain the water. However, I understand that this is not always possible. The problem is that treating a large area of water is not easy at that depth. So, please let me know how much area we are talking about. With regard to the well, is this a deep/drilled well? If so, then pesticides should not be a problem. There are also shallow wells and those are a bit trickier because they use surface water. The deep wells draw water from an aquafer, so surface water is not that much of a problem because the surface water generally runs off and does not go directly into the aquafer. The pesticides generally remain on the surface of the ground. Still, there are pesticides that are very people friendly and can recommend one. The only thing is that they do not have a residual action. That is to say, they kill on contact, but that's it. They no longer work after they dry. The pesticides with a residual action can last as long as 90 days. So, if you have a deep/drilled well, then I would not be concerned about contaminating the well. It is not likely that the pesticide will get into the drinking water. Please let me know how much flooding you have and I will try to assist.
@shawncarlson8097
@shawncarlson8097 2 года назад
@@GuysPestSolutions The area is about 25 yards wide and long. Its wet during summer and in winter a small area 3 yards by 5 yards stays wet or muddy. We have had thoughts of just making a deeper smaller pond area to draw the water to that spot to make managing the water easier. We also are thinking about pumping the water out but that would be a taxing job.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
@@shawncarlson8097 That is a very large area to treat with mosquito larvicide. If it were me, I would try to fill it in. Water seeks it's own level, so if you raise the ground level about six to eight inches and sod over it, that should end the problem. I would slope it slightly to the property line so that water runs off. If money or time are a problem, then you an do it a little at a time. Buy just one truckload of sand and see where it goes and sod over that area. Then you can do it again as time and funding permit. Eventually you will have it all raised up. The other benefit of that is you get to actually use the land to play on after that. You can even put a shed or other structure on that land. Here is Florida standing water is not a good thing. It's not just mosquitoes. A water area that size can attract other nasties like snakes. Good Lord do I hate mosquitoes and snakes. If this water is getting there because of runoff from somewhere, then try to redirect the water flow with pipes or trenches. Water does not flow uphill, so generally water is easy to redirect if you fill in the low spots. I'm sorry I don't have a better solution. You could just dump in a lot of larvicide, but that will get expensive and it would be hard to distribute over that large of an area. Anyway, that's my best thinking. I hope that helps.

Thank you so much for those kind words. Very much appreciated. Okay, so let's talk about critters trying to move in. First, let me say that you must live in a super nice place to even have this sort of wildlife, so in a way, you are somewhat lucky. Still, you don't want to be bunking with these things. The best way to ensure that they remain outside is to build them out. You need to go around the outside of the building and make sure that there are no entry points for these guys to get in. There are some excellent products on the market to seal up areas where they can gain entrance. One very good product is called "Stuff-fIt." It's basically a copper mesh that you can stuff into any openings to make a quick fix that will prevent animals from entering the building. There are a number of brands and I think anyone of them will be fine. I will place a link below for one of them. This product will fill most entrance holes, but you may encounter some that actually need to be covered with wood or metal. Also, be sure that your doors and windows do not have any gaps that will allow these things to enter. Once you have them built out, then do your best to discourage them from hanging around in the first place. There is not much you can do about squirrels, but you can mitigate racoons somewhat by not leaving any pet food or water out for them and by making sure that all trashcans are tightly covered in a way that will not allow the racoons to get into them. There are trashcans you can get that have locking lids or you may be able to hold the lids in place with bungie cords. I have my trash cans tethered to the house with a plastic chain so they cannot be knocked over by dogs or racoons. I also have a bungie cord holding the lids on tight. This seems to have done the trick for me. Finally, try to eliminate any habitat that may exist for them, like overgrown areas of brush and so forth. The neater everything is the less critters you are going to see. If all else fails, you can purchase a Have A Heart trap and catch these guys. In most areas animal control will come and get them for you after you catch them. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Please show a kindness to a friend or family member and share my channel with them. I will answer any pest control question from anyone who asks, even if I do not have a video on it. Thank you very much in your video. It gives me confidence that I can do it myself. Coming from the north to south (ga) now I have to deal with termites, spiders, and many more. Should I use the mosquito pallet or just spray Talstar p right by my trees boundary is sufficient?

First, please watch my video on how to treat your yard with a hose end sprayer. I figured out a better way to do the spraying. Better sprayer and better pesticide. I will give you a link to it. Mosquitoes do not breed in moving water. However, creeks often have damp areas and puddles next to them and that is where the mosquitoes will breed. Wooded areas are just full of areas that have tiny puddles that make good breeding areas. Naturally, you don't want to spray pesticide in the creek. However, you can spray it on the ground from your house to near the creek. Just don't shoot it in the water. Fill in any depressions where water is standing. Use mosquito dunks in areas that cannot be filled in. Spray everything as shown in both videos. Just not the creek. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Spraying for the mosquitoes lasts about 60 days, so you don't need to be doing it any more often than that. The pans under the flowerpots are going to be a problem, but you can treat those with a larvicide, such as mosquito dunks. I will give you a link for them. You should use the dunks any place where there is standing water that cannot be eliminated. If the dunks are too big for the pans, just break them into smaller pieces. Nice helpful video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 i have a question. Do you have a video on using a fogger/mister? I bought an attachment for my blower that makes it fog/mist similar to the hight dollar pro machines. Trying to figure out a good way to use it. Thanks
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
Unfortunately, I do not have a video on fogging. There are two reasons for that. First of all I do not happen to own a fogger. The other reason is that I do not own a fogger because the materials that you are supposed to use to fog typically have no residual action. You can use pesticides that do have a residual action, but they have a tendency to clog the foggers sometimes. So, foggers are basically used to get a quick knockdown of mosquitoes and other flying insects, but those materials have little or no residual action. That is why I prefer to use a hose end sprayer to apply a pesticide that will last 30 to 90 days. Also, applying a pesticide with a hose end sprayer will kill other pets as well, such as American roaches, earwigs, and most of the pests that hang out in your yard. Fogging is great though to get a very fast knockdown of mosquitoes because that fog will get into everything. It is still no substitute for eliminating all the standing water on the property. Anyway, using the fogger is pretty simple. I will give you a link to a good product that you can use in your fogger. Just mix it according to label directions and apply the fog across the entire lawn and any ornamental plants that you may have. It is a very good idea to wear respirator and eye protection while you're fogging. You should not fog on windy days and try to keep the fog low to the ground, unless you are fogging a tree or something like that. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. @GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
Buy Onslaught FastCap Spider and Scorpion Insecticide. Mix it according to label directions in a battery operated tank sprayer and spray up the side of the building 36 inches and out away from the building 48 inches. Be sure to soak the area where the building meets the ground. Also apply this on your patios, stairs, sidewalks, and that sort of thing. In other words, you want to apply it any place you frequently walk. This will stop the scorpions from getting in the building or hanging out on surfaces where you frequently walk. Next, you should apply it on all ornamental plants around the building as well, being sure to treat the dirt under the plants. I recommend applying it every 60 days. Look for obvious penetrations in the side of the house and treat them with D-Fense dust. Just buy a duster, fill it halfway with the dust, and puff the dust into any cracks or crevices that you find. After treating, it is a good idea to caulk these penetrations as well. Always make sure that you hang up all your clothes. You should never leave clothes laying on the floor. Clothes that are waiting to be washed should be kept in a sealed hamper. Shoes should be kept off the floor on some sort of a shoe rack. After you finish the exterior treatment, you should check the house for scorpions. Look under appliances, in closets, under the bed, and that sort of thing. Be sure to check shoes, curtains, or anyplace these guys may be hiding. To assist in your search, you can use a black light. All scorpions will glow green when exposed to a black light. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. What sboit pools or ponds that are well kept with a filter abd moving water etc
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
Mosquitoes prefer shallow, stagnant, standing water. If the water is moving, like it would be in a swimming pool that is properly maintained, then you are not going to have a mosquito problem there. It's the same thing if you have something like a fountain that has moving water. For mosquitoes to breed, the water has to remain fairly undisturbed. That is why, oftentimes, when you're driving around ponds and you see fountains that are in the middle of the pond, if you have ever wondered why they are there, it is most likely to keep the water moving to prevent mosquitoes. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

One thing you didn’t say is you need to shake the talstar jug prior to pouring. I use talstar. Best product I have found but they are asking high price for it now. My mom showed me another product that has the same ingredients and much cheaper. I can’t remember name but should be able to search for it. 😊
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
I'm not aware of any need to shake the Talstar P container prior to using it. Maybe I missed it, but I have read the label a number of times over the years and I have never seen that listed. I just took another look and I still don't see it. As far as I know, this product is a solution that does not require shaking, but it can't hurt to do it anyway. The cheaper product that your mom showed you may have been Bifen IT. It's very similar to Talstar P, with some slight differences. For one thing, the Talstar has no odor at all, but the Bifen does have a slight odor to it. Not a problem when using it outside, but some folks may not like the smell of it inside. Also, some pest controllers think that the Bifen IT does not work quite as well as the Talstar. They both have the exact same active ingredient in the exact same concentration. I don't see why they would not work the same, so I am testing the Bifen IT now. I just purchased a gallon of the Bifen a couple of weeks ago and used it last week for the first time. The jury is still out regarding it's effectiveness next to Talstar. I can tell you that the first thing I did notice was the odor. It wasn't bad, but I definitely could smell it. The Talstar P sells for about $65 a gallon and the Bifen IT sells for about $54 a gallon, so it is a bit less expensive. I'm not a big fan of using these products indoors, so the odor is not a problem for me. If I find that the Bifen IT works just as well, I may start recommending it instead of the Talstar P, with the side note regarding the odor. There is also a Compare N Save product that contains the same active ingredient and you can find it on Amazon, but they are selling a quart for about $32, so that would be about $128 a gallon. Some folks just see the price and don't look closely enough to see how much you are actually getting. So, far the cheapest I have found is the Bifen IT. If you find something less expensive, please let me know because I would like to try it. I am always interested in saving money. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

I live in central New Jersey, in a wooded and farm area. Do you recommend Bifen IT or Taurus SC? I am a first time homeowner with a large property and I am trying to be cost effective. Is it true that bifen/talstar, you need to repeat application every 30 days and Taurus only every 6 months? Thanks!!
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
Let me start with advising you that it is illegal to use Taurus SC for mosquitoes. Taurus SC is great for a perimeter treatment of your home, but you should never apply it to the lawn or plants. Either Bifen or Talstar can be used on the lawn. None of these products will last six months. Not even Taurus SC. The best you will get out of it is three months. When applied to the exterior of a building, you can only use the Taurus SC every six months, but again, it does not last that long. The Bifen and Talstar usually don't make it a full three months on the exterior of a building, but they come close. So, for treating the outside of a building, I alternate between Taurus SC and Talstar P every six three months. For the lawn I always use Talstar P, but Bifen is fine. It usually lasts about 60 days. I'm sure that the pesticide does not last that long, but it kills virtually everything on the lawn and it takes some time for the insect population to get established again. I generally start to see activity on the lawn after 60 days and it's not all that much until 90 days. So, I treat the lawn and the house every 90 days. Like I said, the lawn only gets the Talstar P, but the house gets the Taurus SC every other treatment. Anyway, that's the way I do it. If you want to know how to treat your house, I have a video on that and I will place a link below. Please note that this was the first video I ever did, so it does leave some room for improvement. Also, the sprayers that I recommend in the video are no longer available. If you want, I would be happy to recommend a sprayer for you. I hope that helps. Be well my friend. Good instructions for controlling mosquitoes. For the mask I would prefer a 3M dual chemical respirator as it actually filters out much of the chemicals. An N95 mask does not protect so well and using it for more than a few times, it will tend to breed bacteria and molds. I certainly would not use it for 8 years.

Thank you for your video sir! I do have a question pertaining to neighbors with swimming pools. What can you do about those? Are chlorine treated and salt treated pools breeding areas? Or just when they let them go and become stagnant? I have two pools, one behind and one next to our property. It makes it very difficult to deal with the mosquito situation. Thank you!
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
Swimming pools are not a problem, as long as they are maintained. Mosquitoes like standing water that does not move, so if the water in the pool is being run through a filtration system, then they are not going to be able to breed there. However, when that filtration system is turned off, and the water stagnates, then pools can become a breeding area for mosquitoes. This is particularly true if the pool has been drained and has just as a little shallow water in the bottom. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

I live in Southwest Louisiana. I have a big pond on my property. Elimination of standing water would be a daily chore with the amount of rain we get. With 10 acres of land, eliminating all standing water is near impossible. Any advice?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
I have been to southwest Louisiana and there is no doubt in my mind that it is the mosquito capital of the world. I've even heard talk that the state legislature wants to make mosquitoes the state bird. Lol. Seriously though, I know it's pretty bad where you are. The good news is that the mosquitoes are probably not breeding in the pond itself, but rather small puddles around the pond. These things do not like deep water, so you usually find them in areas around the pond where shallow water collects easily. Now, I am not saying that they cannot breed in a pond, but usually this is not the case because the water is too deep, and they do not like movement in the water either. They much prefer shallow, still, stagnated water. When you get a lot of rain, it becomes very difficult to manage the situation on a large piece of property. There is hope though. While mosquitoes have the capability to certainly travel across 10 acres, most of the time, they stay very close through their breeding area. You see, the only mosquitoes that bite are females because they must take a blood meal before they lay their eggs. So, they do not want to fly across 10 acres to go lay their eggs. Most of the time, they stay close to the breeding area and just wait for their prey to come to them. Therefore, you do not need to treat 10 acres. You will probably eliminate most of the problem if you just treat a 100-foot perimeter around your home. The further the perimeter, the better it works. Of course, the further you walk from the house to the edge of the perimeter, more likely it is that you will get attacked. Still, this will keep something like 90% of the mosquitoes from places like your patio. You are still going to get some, but the problem should be significantly reduced. If you cannot eliminate all the standing water in this perimeter, you can use mosquito dunks in water that cannot be removed, such as in puddles. You can also treat the lawn every month. You may not want to do that entire 100-foot perimeter, but the further you go from the house the better. So, while I don't think you were going to eliminate the problem entirely, I do think we can make it much better. I hope that helps. Be well Renee.

@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
Installing a water spigot is not that hard, but I can definitely see that, if you have never done any plumbing work, then this may seem like a daunting challenge. There are any number of RU-vid videos on the subject and, if you are adventurous, then you may want to give it a try. A lot depends upon the type of pipe that you have. The other option is to simply hire a plumber. My guess is that it won't be much more than a hundred dollars to get it done and I'm guessing that most plumbers will give you a free estimate. Believe me, if I were there I would install one for you at no charge. Now, if getting a spigot installed is not an option, you can purchase a cheap garden sprayer and just use that. I will place a link below for one that only costs $10. You can fill it in the bathtub and even the kitchen sink. Naturally, this is going to take a lot more time than using a garden hose, but it is certainly doable. Just mix the Talstar P according to label directions for mosquitos and spray the lawn and bushes. The most important thing you can do is to remove all standing water. Mosquitoes cannot breed if they do not have water. Get rid of the water and you get rid of the mosquitoes. I literally never have to treat for them because I never have standing water anywhere in the yard. I hope that helps. smile.amazon.com/Flo-Master-Hudson-24101-Sprayer-Translucent/dp/B08B42QKDW/ref=sr_1_26?dchild=1&keywords=garden+sprayer&qid=1631310717&sr=8-26

What about swimming pool? If I only run the pump/filter every other day or so (as I currently do) could this create a massive breeding ground for mosquitos?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
This situation should not pose a problem with mosquitoes. They generally prefer very shallow water, so a pool would need to be really neglected for them to breed in water that deep. Also, they don't breed in moving water and if the pump is running ever other day, then they would not be capable of breeding. Finally, they don't do well with chlorine. All of that being said, while you will not have a mosquito problem, at the same time you may have a water problem. I happen to also have a pool and I have always been told that you must run the pump for eight hours a day to properly clean the water. All the water in the pool should be circulated through the filter every day. When I first purchased my home I was doing exactly that and it was costing a lot of money every month for electric. I bit the bullet and did it anyway because that is what all the pool pros were saying to do, but when the pump finally failed after a couple of years (It was an old pump) I went with a variable speed pump and that saved me about $25 a month. True that a one speed pump would have only cost at the time about $250 and the variable speed pump cost me almost $800, but I recovered the additional cost over time and now it's all pure savings. My logic was that my family is going to be swimming in that water and the experts most likely do know what they are talking about, so I want to be sure that the water is safe. The truth though is that I am not a pool guy, so I do not possess the expertise to explain the chemistry and so forth, but I figured that all those pros can't be wrong. Anyway, what I AM an expert with are mosquitoes and your pool is not going to harbor any. So, in that regard you are good to go. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching. Be well my friend.

is the chemicals also bad for other bugs? and birds? and fish?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
Unfortunately, pesticides are kind of like antibiotics. They do not discriminate between the good bugs and bad bugs, just like antibiotics do not discriminate against good bacteria and bad bacteria. So, when you apply these pesticides to your lawn, you are going to kill all the bugs. Now, birds eat bugs, so if there are no bugs to eat, then the birds should be perfectly fine. Simply landing on the grass or other vegetation that has been treated, will not harm the birds at all. Obviously, you are not supposed to introduce pesticides into any body of water whatsoever. This is especially true if that body of water contains any sort of wildlife. If a pesticide is introduced into a body of water where fish are present, then it is certainly possible for those fish to die. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

To the best of my knowledge, all mosquitoes operate the same way. Only the females suck blood and they do it just prior to laying their eggs. They must lay the eggs in standing water that is typically shallow. So, if you remove the water, then they cannot breed. They like to stay fairly close to the water, so eliminating standing water on your property will help a lot. You may get some fly over from the neighbors' yards, but not much you can do about that, other than to treat their yards as well. That's what I do and the neighbors love me for it. Mostly it's just a matter of going around and removing standing water sources. If you remove the water, then spraying usually isn't necessary. If you do spray with Talstar P or Bifen IT, then that will kill everything on the lawn and plants where it is applied. There are very few insects that can survive it. Mosquitoes won't stand a chance. I hope that helps.

How to manage or rid Aedes misquotes?? I have NO standing water on my property at all!!
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
I have never actually run into Aedes mosquitoes, but I do know a little about to them. From what I understand they are a bit different than other species, in that they have the capability to operate in the sunlight. That means they can bite 24 hours a day. Also, this is the mosquito that carries the zika virus and it is very dangerous for pregnant women. So, the question becomes, what do you do about them? All mosquitoes, regardless of species, must breed in water. I understand that you may not think that you have any standing water on your property, but there are places you may not be thinking about. For example, do you have gutters on your house? All it takes is a slight dip in the gutters where water can collect, and you have a breeding place for mosquitoes. This species can breed in a teaspoon of water. So, this is not the sort of thing where you need to have puddles on your property. If you have anything around your property like flowerpots, or dampness where an air conditioning unit is dripping water, or anything like that, it is a breeding place for mosquitoes. If you have expansion joints in your concrete, there may be a tiny collection of water in there that can serve as a breeding area. These guys can also breed indoors. So, if you are seeing these things inside, then make sure you have no breeding areas there either. All of that being said, it is very difficult to find all the breeding areas around your property because they don't need much water. For that reason, you cannot simply eliminate all the breeding areas because it is probably next to impossible to find them all. Therefore, all you can do is your best to find and eliminate even the slightest standing water that may exist and then you must use a pesticide. If it were me, I would probably treat my entire property with Bifen IT every 30 days. Not only would I spray it on the lawn and other vegetation, I would literally spray it on every surface on the entire property. I would mix it 1 ounce per gallon and just spray everything with it. I am no longer using the sprayer that I showed in the video because the darn thing just falls apart too easily. I have found a much better sprayer now, but it does require that you dilute the Bifen IT. So let me give you the procedure for that. Again, I recommend using Bifen IT and a specific garden hose sprayer that I know works, but you can use any brand that you wish. I will place a link below for both the sprayer and Bifen IT. I have found that these sprayers do not last beyond a few uses because they seem to clog up quite easily, even if you clean them really well. So, what happens is you end up just spraying water instead of pesticide. A good way to check to see if you are spraying actual pesticide is to carry a bottle lid with you and occasionally spray some into the lid. If the liquid looks white, then it’s working. If it looks clear, then it is not. I will provide you with links to all the products. When the sprayer stops working, just buy a new one. They are not very expensive. This application method does not require a lot of protective equipment. I recommend wearing goggles, rubber gloves, long pants, a respirator, and long sleeve shirt (If it's not too hot out). The Bifen IT is too thick to be picked up by the siphon tube in the sprayer and therefore, it needs to be diluted. To do this, pour 4 ounces of the Bifen IT into the sprayer and then add enough water to fill it to the 32-ounce mark. So, that would be 4 ounces of product and an additional 28 ounces of water. As you are adding the water, swirl it around a bit in the container, so that it mixes as you are adding the water. Before screwing the sprayer onto the holding cup, make sure that the siphon tube is securely into the sprayer head. If the siphon tube falls out, then you will be spraying with plain water. Set the sprayer at 8 ounces per gallon. The labeled dilution rate for the Bifen IT is 1 ounce per gallon of water, but you diluted it 1 ounce of product to 7 ounces of water, so that means you need to apply it at a rate of 8 ounces per gallon. At this application rate, you will see the holding cup drain down fairly quickly, so you will know that it's working. If the product does not seem to be emptying out of the holding cup fairly quickly, then something is wrong, and you need to stop and figure it out. If the siphon tube is solidly in place, then it could be that the screen on the end of the tube is clogged. If that is clear, then put your finger over the bottom of the tube and turn on the water. If you do not feel the suction, then it's not working, and the sprayer is malfunctioning. You always want to clean the spryer really well after each use to avoid clogs. Attach the sprayer to a garden hose and you are all set. Set the sprayer for a downward fan spray and spray your lawn, ornamental plants, and garden. When spraying your garden, do not spray directly onto the fruits or vegetables, unless they are actually getting eaten by bugs. Pro tips: To make this application quicker and easier, I recommend that you buy 100 feet of one of those super hoses that you see advertised on TV all the time. They are lightweight and make the job go a lot quicker and easier. Also, if you attach a quick disconnect to both the sprayer and the garden hose, it makes refilling the sprayer a lot easier and quicker. These hoses require that you have a shutoff valve at the end of the hose where the sprayer is located, so that you can shut the water off prior to removing the sprayer. Most of the hoses have a shutoff valve built in, but not all of them do. If you buy one that does not have a shut off valve, then you need to add your own. I will place links below for all these items. Please note that these hoses should be stored inside because they deteriorate fairly quickly when left in the sunlight. I am so sorry that you are having this problem and I know that it is not easy to deal with. Even after doing everything I am suggesting, you still will get some mosquitoes from the neighbor's yard. So, be sure to use mosquito repellent if they are still a bother. You want to use a product that contains the most amount of DEET that you can find. I hope that helps. Be well Susan. My parents have a pond about 75' across. Fill it in!? Or are there other alternatives? It dries up every summer so turtles and frogs visit, but not much else.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions Год назад
I will bet mosquitoes visit as well. Oftentimes, when a pond like that dries up, it doesn't dry up completely and that leaves small pockets of water where mosquitoes can easily breed. That sounds like a pretty good-sized pond though, so it may cost a bit of money to fill it in. Still, that is probably your best bet, if you can afford it. The other option is to spray it whenever the mosquito population crops up. How easily this can be done will depend on how muddy the bottom of the pond is. I mean, it is no fun slopping through muck on the bottom of a pond. So, how you decide to deal with it it's going to depend on a variety of factors, not the least of which is how much money you want to throw at it. If the bottom of the pond is reasonably walkable, then it wouldn't take much to spray it periodically. If you go with this option, you may want to invest in a backpack fogger and spray with a pyrethrin. Just let me know if you would like more information about that. I hope that helps. Please give my best to your parents. Be well my friend.

Does anyone know of a chemical that's good against mosquitos, but also safe for fireflies? Our property in Florida is adjacent to some protected wetlands, that we really shouldnt trespass on. But we have, and there's a swamp ~100 yards from our property, which gets closer after heavy rains. Is there something inbetween the swamp and our property, to discourage mosquitoes from crossing? The clouds of fireflies are beautiful to watch this time of year, but the mosquitoes are just relentless! I'd rather not treat with anything if it harms fireflies, but would love a solution to these mosquitoes.
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
Unfortunately, pesticides do not discriminate. Also, you cannot treat that swamp effectively without risking serious harm to some wildlife, like fish. Even if you did, it would be expensive. So, treating the swamp is not an option. Mosquitoes can travel a very long way if they want to. Like a few miles long, but they usually don't. I have found that, most of the time, they stay fairly close to home and do not venture out more than a few hundred feet. They like to lay in wait for a meal to come to them. When you get close, they take off and head your way. So, my best guess is that these guys may not actually be coming from the swamp, but from that area between the swamp and your property, as well as on your property. So, if it were me, I would start by eliminating all standing water. Mosquitoes bread in shallow, standing water. They don't like deep water that moves. So, start by going around your property and eliminate all standing water. I give examples of that in my video. Next, venture out into that area between your property and the swamp and do the same thing. It won't be so easy in that area because they could be breeding in a small puddle or a hollowed-out part of a tree. So, you may need to fill in low spots in the ground. Literally, anywhere there is a small amount of standing water is a great breeding location. The more of these you can fill in or eliminate in some way, the fewer the mosquitoes. If you cannot eliminate the standing water, then go with mosquito dunks. The idea is that you want to totally eliminate all breeding areas on your property and then eliminate as many as you can that are around your property. Start from your property line and work out. If you can create a 300-foot water free zone around your house, then you should see a significant reduction in the mosquitoes that make it to your property. Keep in mind that it is only the females that take a blood meal. They do this just before laying their eggs, so they like to be close to that standing water when they bite. So, if you eliminate that standing water, then you eliminate most of the problem. I understand that this is easier said than done because of how much ground you need to cover, but the longest journey begins with a first step. Next, while I know you like those fireflies, if it were me, getting rid of the mosquitoes would trump keeping the fireflies. So, I would spray my lawn and all plants with Bifen IT or Talstar P. Like I said, mosquitoes like to lay in wait for you. They hang out on blades of grass, under leaves, and so forth, to stay out of the sun. They require shade during the day. These things are literally like vampires. They only come out when the sun goes down because the sun will kill them. Therefore, you need to spray anyplace where they can find shade. You can only spray on your own property, but doing so will help. You can use a garden hose sprayer and apply the Bifen or Talstar, but you may want to invest in a fogger and then apply a pyrethrin product instead. There is no residual action like with the Bifen, but the fog will get into all the areas where they like to hang out and it's super fast to do. You can probably even fog some of the perimeter around your property as well. If you use the pyrethrin, then you may need to do it fairly often, but it will do a good job controlling the population. How often you need to do it will depend upon how good of a job you did eliminating the standing water. Again, I know that the goal was to keep the fireflies, but in the military we called that collateral damage. Using pesticides is very much like dropping bombs. In both cases, they don't discriminate. However, the fireflies that are beyond the kill zone of the pesticide will still be perfectly fine. There are any number of natural approaches that folks use like planting things that mosquitoes don't like, burning citronella candles, and all that sort of thing, but I have found that it is not all that effective. When it comes to mosquitoes, you really need to get rid of them. Not only are the bites itchy, but these things can also spread diseases. It is not that common really here in the US, but it can happen. We have had cases of West Nile virus and even Dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus. So, in my humble opinion, it's not a good idea to put up with the mosquitoes in order to save the fireflies. These things need to go. Or so it seems to me. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I am on vacation at the moment, and I am on a cruise, so I don't always have internet and often I am doing vacation stuff. My wife and I have not had a vacation in over 13 years, so it was time. I will be home on June 11, so I can answer any additional questions you may have at that time. Adding an IGR is a great idea, but it is expensive and that will do nothing to stop mosquitoes breeding on your neighbor's property. I have a new video that shows an improved way to treat your yard. I found that Talstar P was clogging the sprayer often and that sprayer was always coming apart. Please watch my updated video on how to treat your yard. I now use Bifen XTS. It looks expensive, but it gets mixed at 1/3 ounce per gallon instead of 1 ounce per gallon, so it's actually cheaper per finished gallon. It is petroleum based, so it sticks way better to everything as well. If you use this product, then I don't think you will need an IGR. Ask your neighbors if you can eliminate the standing water in their yards. I have done that with my neighbors, and they were very appreciative. One of my neighbors had an old above ground pool that was not being used and it was a mosquito playground. I drained it and put it out on the curb for pick up. That helped a lot. I hope that helps. To be totally honest, I don't know if I have ever seen a bromelaid. I am not much of a plant person. I am given to understand thought that the leaves can hold water. That could present a problem. The only thing I can think of would be to periodically spray them with a pyrethroid. That should not harm them, but there is no residual with it either. So, you would need to spray whenever you start to see mosquito activity. If you do this, test it on one plant to see if there is any harm caused by it. I think it should be okay, but it's best to make certain. I'm sorry that I cannot be of more assistance. Be well my friend.

Can you add ExciteR for roaches also ?
@GuysPestSolutions
@GuysPestSolutions 2 года назад
The short answer is "no." Well, you could use ExciteR for roaches, but it would be a really bad idea. Of course, it will kill roaches really fast, but roaches happen to be one of those insects that you want to kill slowly. The proper way to kill roaches depends upon the species of roach that you are dealing with. American cockroaches for example are actually an outside roach and, even though they often come inside your home, they actually prefer to remain outside. They enter homes when the climate conditions outside get too harsh for them. So, if you do a proper exterior treatment every three months, then most of the time the problem goes away. Now German cockroaches are totally different. They are an inside roach and are arguably the worst insect that can possibly infest your home. There are other species as well, such as brown banded and oriental cockroaches and the treatment for each varies. I would never use ExiteR for any of them though. Most of the time when people ask me about roaches they have the German kind. If that is the case with you, then you should check out my video on how to eliminate a German cockroach infestation. If you have tried everything you can think of to get rid of your German cockroach infestation and nothing works, then you are not alone. It is considered in the industry impossible to completely eliminate a German cockroach infestation. However, I have figured out a way to do it and I have shared this secret in my video. I have been doing pest control since 1981 and in all that time I have never met another pest controller that knew how to do it. Generally, what they do is keep coming back month after month to knock down the population so that you don't SEE the roaches anymore, but they are still there and will repopulate if the treatments stop. My video will show you, not only how to eliminate them 100 percent, but how to stop them from ever re-infesting your home. It is literally the only video out there that can show you how to do it. Now, it's long. I mean really long. The video runs about 90 minutes, but it is important to watch all of it because eliminating German roaches is not easy and there is a lot of information you need to get the job done properly. So, if you are dealing with these guys, then the only way you can get rid of them for good is to learn how to do it from this video. I will place a link below. If you are dealing with a different species, let me know and I will advise you how to treat them as well. Thanks for watching. I understand that what I suggest in my video is very labor intensive and time consuming, but it is the only way to get rid of these guys. You can do it a little at a time though. You can start with the kitchen and then the bathrooms. After that, just do one room at a time. You can just do one room every weekend if you like. Spray all trash cans, inside and out, with something like Bifen IT, mixed one oz per gallon of water. Make sure that all trash can lids are on tightly. Pick up all the dog poop daily and dispose of it. Do not leave dog food bowls outside. Clean them after each feeding and only have them out during feeding time. You can leave the water down all day, but clean the bowls daily and put in fresh water.
