Thank you so much for this video. I’m a new sock knitter and I have been trying all the different heels to see which one works for me. This is, by far, the best one yet.

Thank you so much for this tutorial especially the to about using the stitch marker to find the gap which has always been my nemesis with short row heels 😊

I love this tutorial , a I've been learning several different short heels, this seems like one of the easiest. However even when I am following it completely, I keep getting gaps or holes in the stitches when you're close the gaps, especially on the p2tog side.

As easy as this short row method is, it doesn't create the neatest diagonal "seams". For that, Japanese or pinned short rows are the way to go in my opinion, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pU9fgOPsbgA.html.

This looks like one of the easiest short row heels. My question for you: Are there any disadvantages to using this type of heel versus the twin stitch or German short row methods? Thanks so much!
@thechillydog
@thechillydog Год назад
It creates a slightly different looking diagonal, but all of the short tow turning stitches create a fairly comparable heel.

I like your patterns and have purchased several. When I get confused about something and can go look it over and see what I am doing wrong. It not a waste of money buying expensive yarns usually ends up back of the closet with needles and all the other stuff where my cat make his bed
@thechillydog
@thechillydog 4 года назад
Your comment means a lot to me because that's exactly why I do what I do. I want my customers/subscribers to be able to stitch with confidence. Nice yarn should be on your needles making nice things, not in the closet. Sorry kitty 😸!

Oops. Nevermind. Just found it on your site. I jumped on it and purchased w/o evaluating the degree to which it may be beyond my skill set, as I’ve nit knit socks before - sweaters and scarves only 😳
@thechillydog
@thechillydog 5 лет назад
I was just telling one of my friends yesterday that I really hate putting "difficulty" levels on patterns because it can make people give up on themselves before they even start a project. If you can knit a sweater, you can knit socks.
@gerreddy9287
@gerreddy9287 3 года назад
I was wondering why you didn't slip the knit stitch and twist the 2nd stitch on the very last set of stitches that made up the decrease part of the foot. Instead you just knitted the two of them together. why not do all of them like that ?

Thanks for an interesting video. I’ve watched your Japanese/pinned short row heel and the yarn over short row heel videos. Which do you prefer for the better looking heel? I’ve tried German short rows but end up with holes the sides. I just subscribed. You have a lot of tips that I need to learn!
@thechillydog
@thechillydog 4 года назад
I think the Japanese/pinned method creates the neatest short row heels. I use shadow wrapped short rows a lot in my patterns because it gives a good result and you don't need all the stitch markers. Thanks for subscribing and happy knitting.

The pattern for the socks shown in the video (which includes instructions for the heel, of course) can be found in my pattern shop at shop.thechillydog.com/products/azalea-socks-knitting-pattern-pdf?TCDYT. I also have a general photo tutorial of the process with instructions on my blog at www.thechillydog.com/2016/11/knitting-tutorial-yarn-over-short-row.html?TCDYT.

?? - I have 24 sts, so I’m doing 7 short rows on each end and 10 sts in the middle. Do you count the first slipped st as part of your 7 sts? Or you do 7 yo’s on each side? Thx
@thechillydog
@thechillydog 5 лет назад
I usually think it's easiest to count the gaps on each side because they are easy-to-see landmarks. There's a slipped stitch on one side of each gap and a YO on the other.
@susancahill8272
@susancahill8272 2 года назад
I’ve done this short row several times and when you get to the last gap on each side and follow the directions the last ing the gap leaves a hole. Also the heel is short by 2 stitches. What did I do wrong?
@thechillydog
@thechillydog 2 года назад
It's hard to say without actually seeing your work. It sounds like somehow instead of closing the last gap on each side you are doing an unnecessary decrease on each side. That could create gaps at the sides and would explain why you are 2 sts short.
@susancahill8272
@susancahill8272 2 года назад
@@thechillydog I did exactly what you did in the video. My work looks the same when I got down to the last 2 stitches. The stitch that was never worked on the left side of the heel is loose and that creates a hole.
@bevmayo1011
@bevmayo1011 2 года назад
That is happening to me too
@susancahill8272
@susancahill8272 2 года назад
@@bevmayo1011 I figured out that I started the second set of short rows too soon, so I decreased 2 extra times. But I can’t figure out how to avoid a hole when doing the last decreases. The side when I did the last decrease on the left side and continued to the instep is where the hole formed.
