When you have a lot of stitches to cast on, as I do for the back of my sweater, I have 90 stitches to cast on.
One really pretty way to add stitches to the needle is the cabled cast on.
And how you do it is you put your right needle in between
the first two stitches, not through any of the loops, but just right underneath and in between. Bring a loop forward and then drag it over and
onto the left needle.
It's gonna make sort of a V and that's very normal.
And then in this way, you're just knitting from one end of the ball of yarn.
And you don't have to guesstimate how much yarn you're going to need to
cast on all those stitches.
And 90 is a reasonable number.
But sometimes, you know, you're knitting and you have to cast on 300 or
something like that.
And so this can be a very pretty edge as well.
Now you might notice that sometimes I wrap my yarn coming toward me
like that and let me see if I can do it this other way like that.
I'm not convinced that you'll see a difference, but I do notice that sometimes I'm not consistent.
So never fear if you go one way, but I think it is better to be consistent there.
And then it has a nice cabled edge at the bottom.
