Yes you definitely can but you’d need to cast on more stitches and work more repeats as the yarn is thinner. The ballband of the yarn you choose should suggest the correct size needles for that yarn.
Could you knit a blanket that although it isn't reversible, when you fold over the top part of the blanket it matches the rest?. So basically the pattern would have to be reversed so far before you reach the end. It's probably easy to work out but my mind won't let me 😂. Hope this makes sense, thank you👍😁
