@@TaddyDigest Auxillary heat is expensive to use 🥹🥹 I have a heat pump on my rental property and I don't like it. It is a Rheem and I have replaced the inside coil plus TXV and now they are saying the compressor is bad. The unit is three years old and didn't run for a year
I watch your video presentations and STUDY them. Your style of explaining theory as you go along is so valuable. Thank you for taking your time to create these lessons. Medic467, WA State.
New homeowner here with a heat pump system with emergency heat for the first time. This was extremely informative! Learned the hard way with this recent cold front the pump and emergency heat weren’t wired correctly. Got things sorted and installing a proper thermostat today. Thanks!
@@justinrichard4190 okay, I have a dual system with mini split head units in my second floor and force air/ducks coming from my basement to generate heat/cold on my first floor
I've got a little over 2 years experience, but that's from 6 years ago, I left and went back to my original trade (framer) but now I'm back so I'm trying to learn faster. So thank you for this.
Good info man. I’m based out of Delaware. Just started my career on the commercial side as an apprentice about 1.5 yrs ago and just started doing service calls back in August. It’s been challenging coming into the field with no experience at all. But I’m slowly getting my bearings and these videos are helpful. Thanks
I have a question. Can you recommend a thermostat that has an indicator light that shows when your using auxiliary heat. Not emergency but auxiliary to supplement the heat pump. Subscribing to your channel.
Can you educate me how the heat pump work! Is heat Pump realy save you money compare to the standart furnish? our heat pump in our apartment is air with the emergency heat inside the apartment. How do you know if the heat pump is run in high efficiency? you help is greatly appreciated and perhaps you show me how to service it...
Great video bud,, 2 questions On the brown wire coming the thermostat did you needed to connect the brown from equipment together with the white??or can you leave brown from equipment out? And could you do the same connection on zone board system?
Thnx for this video. I hope this is the issue for me also. I have NO HEAT at all. Either from the Rheem heat pump or the emergency heat. DO not know what to do. The heat pump was working before, but then ii stopped. I changed the contactor and the capacitor but that did not help. The outdoor unit makes an attempt to start up in both heating and cooling, but still did not stay on. I put the tstat in emergency heat, and it blows air out, but not warm air. The thermostat show that it is calling for heating, but that is not happening at all. Is there any suggestion? I am thinking of changing the TSTAT now, and/or the DEFROST BOARD on the outdoor unit. The board status is SHOWING: Low Press. Lock out. BUT. before I change the cap and contactor, it was showing the same status, so, I manually, push the contactor in, and it started up and ran ok, in the cooling and heating mode. Dont know what to do now. I am handy enuff, to do anything. I am on fix income in Poinciana, and do not what to get ripped off by these so called mechanic companies down here, because thats all they do, show up and collect, then gives the run around when they can not solve the problems. I thank you for your info given, here, maybe i can figure something out.
Probably should have checked continuity through the heater coils with that meter before you assumed that both relays were bad. Rarely is it the relay, usually the coil broken or open fuse link or limit. Actual troubleshooting goes a long way in this trade. This is why YORK is a waste of your money.
I had a call yesterday for Fujitsu hp,not heating but the outside is -15, explained customer that hp doesn't work good after -10, and they need heat strips. Sad that the salesman did not explain all the disadvantages hp pumps in cold climates.
I don’t understand why having auxiliary/energency heat in extreme cold temps would be considered a disadvantage of a HP? From my understanding heat pumps are way more efficient than resistive forced air heaters under normal operating temps they were designed for, average temps in NY are 25 - 40 in winter.
My neighbor has an old 80s/90s carrier heat pump split pkg. This season during heating the indoor blower will randomly turn off then back on and repeat. Her service company said it’s the thermostat……which I didn’t believe only because the thermostat was doing everything it should but they replaced anyway. Well guess what it’s doing it again. I was leaning towards the fan relay board. Any thoughts?
You have to manually switch it to emergency heat but some thermostats have a feature called outdoor heat pump lock out where you can set a temperature and at. That temperature if you have a outdoor sensor it will automatically turn on your emergency. Heat
Also, even though there are EM and AUX terminals on the thermostat, it still may not work in those modes? Kinda confusing. How to make sure those modes work on your application?
I dont understand why the thermostat has a terminal for aux and one for emergency? Isnt aux and em heat the same thing? Also does em heat run simulataneously with the heat pump? Always, only sometimes etc
My stat has a wire in aux terminal and 1 in r but nothing in e. So em heat has to run with heat pump in my setup? Trying to make certain aux heat isnt coming on ever. I live in fl it never gets cold here
Wonder how much of that heat kit heat is lost due to being outside with a bit of foil lined air handler box to try and hold it. Also you couldve shut off the power and continuity checked the actual heat strips to detmine if the coil was broke before even unscrewing it! finally i wonder how much the homeowner paid for a new kit when he really just needed new part worth 50 to 100 bucks?
Start off with maintenance. Companies tend to hire lesser experienced technicians to run routine maintenances. You will learn a lot through repetition.
