This isn't a foolproof method to determine the board version. There are reports of D-808s with micro USB and the new board. If you press and hold the power button on the newer version it will just beep and not turn on. On the original version if you hold down the power button it powers on. Other than opening it up, that's probably the most reliable method.
Thanks for that Gilles and to the gents that opened their 808s up. Glad that my 2 week old XHdata D- 808 here in Australia is the old board (Micro USB) with the SW band pass filters. No probs with FM breakthrough on SW 😀
Another difference I noticed is the time taken to update the values in the S-Meter, in the new one this update is faster. And the new audio contains more mids and highs.
Thanks Gilles, say, can you confirm a different funktion of the power key? Some say on the new one it has an other funktion compared to the old one. Beside that the “TIMER” on the display can’t be turned off.
I watched one video that showed the function of the Power button difference. On an old D-808, a long enough press of the Power button will turn the radio on or off; with the new one, a long press of the Power button does nothing. I have a new one and can confirm that last part. I don't know why one would want to turn off the Timer display. It is just a label for the sleep timer icon next to it. But I can say that "Timer" remains when the sleep timer is off and the radio is on "on" mode.
The word original suggests that the Xhdata with USB C is a counterfeit product. It would be more appropriate to speak of the predecessor model and the new D 808 model.😂
