skaandal l Those jettings specs work great for me and I am at 70-80°F, 60+ humidity, 700' elevation. Where are you located?

Love your videos. I have the same exact bike and am struggling with the jetting. Bike is stock except I have a slip on pro circuit TI-4 exhaust. I've messed and messed with it and can't get it dialed in. I ride in 80-100F 5000-8000 elevation and zero humidity. Do you have any recommendations on where to start based on your experience?

Cody Hardman You can click in video description and see my specs and then apply the altitude correction factor of about .95 as a baseline for conditions.

MatthewMCRepair Forgive my lack of knowledge but could you explain what altitude correction factor of about .95 is?

Cody Hardman For example, if your jet size is 100 at sea level, then you apply correction factor (.95 x 100 = 95) and your jet goes to 95, which is leaner due to altitude. Keep in mind the numbers are opposite for leak jet, so multiply by 1.05 instead of .95. Contact me here and we can go through it together: www.howtomotorcyclerepair.com/contact/

I have a question for anyone that wishes to answer. RUNNING ON FULL CHOKE ONLY! just bought a nice and slightly used 2006 KX250F and the owner said he has had to run it on FULL CHOKE ever since he owned it and I don't know how long that has been but that that is pathetic. It was idling at about 2500. NOW, until I figure out what to do without removing the carb((which I'm told may not be necessary) I will keep searching for the variety of answers. One is that I should change my fuel filter often. One is to check the setting on my fuel screw because 'some' have found it turned all the way in or close to it. ETC. ETC. I will be buying one of them 90 degree carb tools and replacing that fuel mixture pin anyway. I was irritated by the 2500 RPM range it seemed to idle at and was able to idle it down to what sound like about 1800-1900 RPM now. BUT, those chokes seem like automatics and will close on you without warning. My bike still idles for a moment off choke but will shut down if I don't continue to work the throttle. I doubt I have a plugged fuel jet because I'm told that even with the choke on, fuel still flows through that tiny fuel jet that some say may be clogged. BTW, I have manually held the choke and let it slowly slide in and as it comes nearly to the end, maybe with 1/8" remaining, the bike sounds great!! When I release it, that is when I have throttle trouble and raising the idle don't help any and it sounds like it wants to stumble and pop. IS IT A CLOGGED JET? Must I remove the carb? OK, it's all yours!!!

You should pull the carb and clean it. Who knows what other owners have jetted it to. Also, these bikes idle at 1800-2200.

Hey Matt , will a 09 kx450f shifter fit an 09 250f I found one brand new hammerhead billet one for 15$ but it’s for a kx450f if it’ll work I’m ordering it rn , thanks fig I’d ask someone that knows what their talking about !

I have a question for you buddy I have an 04 KX 250 F just got new valves crank piston's bottom and gaskets and more. But now my bike won't start it was running for a week when I got out of the shop what do you think it is. I think it's my carburetor I haven't cleaned it or anything when I owned it only for two years!

Spark, compression, fuel/air mix. One of these 3 is missing if it won't start. Start diagnosing.

Hi, my kx250f (2009 model) doesn't bog ever, but it pops some on de-acceleration. Is that normal or does the jetting need to be played with? Thanks!

For the record, the bike in the video pops a bit on decel too. It had a bad gasket between head pipe and silencer. Also, the silencer probably needs to be repacked. However, the fuel screw was properly set (pilot jet 2 sizes larger) at 2 turns out: How-To: 4 Stroke MX Fuel Screw Adjustment YZF CRF KXF RMZ FCR Some Q's: What is your pilot jet stock and current? Fuel screw setting? Silencer packing new? Exhaust leaks?

Make sure meffler packing is good. No vacuum leaks. Richen the fuel screw and/or pilot jet.

Check for vacuum leaks and clean the carb. Is this a new problem?

MatthewMCRepair Last time it was driven it was probably 60 degrees, when I took it out for a quick ride it was 20ish

Well the easiest thing to do is wait for warmer weather. I take the carb apart on any new bike I buy for a couple of reasons: to clean it & to verify what jetting is in it. People love messing with carbs and it may not always be the best setup. Copy my jetting specs and it will run good.

I have 175 main, needle 3rd clip from bottom, 45 pilot, O ring mod, and still cant get the bike to idle right at 2.5 turns out. I think I have it set at about 4 turns out.. No vacuum leaks either. Thoughts? EDIT: I am at sea level in hot/humid climate.

at 2.5 turns out it has a hanging idle. It goes away past 4 turns out

I did not check the leak jet yet, but I didn't think it had a huge impact on idle

Make sure your hot start plunger is clean and sealing well. Pull the hot start during idle....it should make RPM go up. Does your idle RPM go up as you turn from 2.5 to 4 turns out?

Leak jet is for quick whack of throttle. If it bogs during a hard whack, then install a 45 leak jet.

+junior E Starter jet is for choke feed only. Don't change that one.

Would your final jetting specs work on my 2010 kx250f even if it’s not an FCR carb?....I purchased a Kipa carb off Amazon. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a different brand carb then this jetting does not apply.

@@HTMR I don’t know a whole lot about carbs but it looks exactly like my old FCR carb so if I couldn’t just swap the jets into the new one where do you recommend I find good jetting specs for the kipa carb?

@@nickaucoin405 Let me back up and ask why did you go buy a Chinese replacement carb? What was wrong with the OEM carb on the bike? Reason I ask is that the chinese carbs are low quality and hit or miss.

@@HTMR guy who owned it before me broke one of the “jets” not sure which one it is or what it’s called...it was on the barrel ig you call it of the carb so I bought a new one was kinda on a budget build but the one I got looks to be made exactly like an FCR and I managed to fit the old jets from said carb on the new one.

@@HTMR so in other words wasn’t thinking it would be a bad carb which I haven’t had any problems with it so far just been trying to tune it and I don’t have the same experience as everyone else.

MatthewMCRepair temps now are between 48f low to 64 high somedays.. unsure of the altitude I’m in North Carolina I think where I am is around 591 elevation

MatthewMCRepair some backfire normal? Right now I got a 50 leak, 48 pilot and a 178 main throttle needle on 3rd clip, still backfires mixture screw is out a good bit, my 45 pilot, 175 main should be in today but the smallest leak jet I could get was 50 I couldn’t find a 45 like you have in the kxf250.

+Hyper Reloadz I'm 5'10" - 5'11" and 170lbs, and about flat foot on these bikes. I think you will be OK as long as your legs/hips are flexible.
