Leah from See Jane Drill demonstrates how to install sheet laminate on wood to create a countertop surface. If you do this yourself, rather than purchasing pre-made countertop, you will have a much wider variety of laminate color and style options to choose from!

This is the best beginner's tutorial I've ever seen. Most so-called "beginners" tutorials assume a lot of knowledge and a well-equipped tool shop. After watching this video I really felt confident that I could do it myself. I particularly liked that every little step was shown, right down to showing us what the router bit looked like. Also love the name of the website! Now I'm off to learn how to use a router. Thanks Leah.

Hi Leah! Particle board is usually more porous than the laminate, so it may need 2 coats of contact glue to one coat on the laminate, so I apply the contact cement to the particle board first. I also found that Wilson Art laminate has the best quality/ price/ & selection over Formica brand!

Nice. Please take note that if you are laminating an L that has been cut at a 45 degree angle. you do NOT start in the middle. You start at the end that has the 45 and pull the spacers from that end to the other end. Wood dowels are fine but costly just to use as temp spacers. PVC pipe works the same and a lot cheaper. When building the wood portion you use 2 inc strips of wood screwed around the edge to make it look as if the single sheet were double thick. Less wood-less weight. Walls are not straight but the laminate and wood are. You can scribe the wooden counter top to fit perfectly then remove and laminate and trim if NO backsplash is to be used. If you are using a back splash just make sure the backsplash covers the top to hide where the laminate has a gap between the counter top and the wall. Sometimes a ceramic tile will not cover that gap and you need chalking.
@stuballs42
@stuballs42 6 лет назад
Another good temp. spacers or supports to hold laminate away from your intended placement is the use of venetian blind slats. the older metal kind! They are slightly rounded at the top surface , will not roll or slide around, and can be stacked, in a very neat pile until you may need them again !
@matthewosgood5599
@matthewosgood5599 6 лет назад
Thanks, cloverdale87! I'm going to be doing an 'L" bartop this weekend, and I was thinking to myself that I would need to start at the 45 so I can meet the edges tightly.
