I'm gonna watch it once i'm home, judging from the beginning of the video i dont think it can help me much since i dont have that problem with my waist but i need more space for my chest. Maybe i'll still learn something useful i can do against that ✨️ i really like your vibe and energy, definitely gonna see what i can find on your channel ❤
Wow! I just love your pure upbeat energy; plus how detailed, yet still somewhat simple, your explanations are. I love thrifting, but often can’t find exactly what I’m looking for… I recently bought an absolutely gorgeous-but-too-small dress for only $11, but had no idea what to do with it until I saw this video (because it has darts). Even though I hate sewing, I have recently been getting braver at trying to tailor for my own body… and now I can’t wait to try this 😊
It really depends on how the dress is made & your shape. What you can do is reshape the darts so they are not letting out the waist but the bust where you need it. So it would end up being a short dart.
What if my dress has darts in the upper part but not pleads at the skirt? Can I only let out the darts? I do not need extra space at the waist, it’s for a zipper to be able to close
Hey Anastasia my waist is 7 inches bigger than the waist recommendations on the site for the dress i bought (I know I should've checked the size chart before buying lesson learnt) do you recommend this method still or would you recommend something else? It was the biggest size they had so I can't exchange it & its very specific costume for a friends party so its not easy to find anything similar other places. What are your thoughts?
I would try one of these methods since you need to add a good amount. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uNRqpd5aqdY.html. or. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aag2rujLl98.html. I hope one of these work for you.
As an alterations shop manager this is pretty misleading. Yes, the techniques here work! For this dress. A lot of manufactured dresses that customers bring in literally have ZERO fabric left in them, and they don’t understand why we can’t just “let it out”, when there’s no extra in the serged out seams. This video, while helpful if you know how darts and pleats work, is exactly what a customer would try to show me when I tell them that no, their dress is in fact, as big as it will ever be without adding in more fabric. I guess tldr, if you can do this yourself, great, if not, don’t use this as a guide for you thinking you can save every dress that’s too small and annoying any seamstress in your life by asking them to let it out in 50 different seams just to get 1 inch if you’re lucky.
If you think customers annoy you by bringing a dress that you say "can't any bigger," than your not a very good taylor,. You also have bad manners. Maybe you can't alter it but someone else with less negativity can. I've seen it done, and did it myself. So don't be rude to this woman bc of your own faults.
