Hey, thank you for all your videos! They've very professional and informative. I know that they take a great deal of time to make and we all appreciate them. I have a question regarding sealing the perimeter of a room. I took my walls down to the studs and put up new vapour barrier, along with a new 3/4" OSB sub-floor overtop of the old shiplap. There is a slight gap between the vapour barrier and the new sub-floor I was planning to fill with cement prior to self leveling. This would effectively seal the bottom of my barrier and the potential leak points in the old sub-floor in one step. How important is the foam edge acting as an expansion gap? Since my edges will be completely sealed by vapour barrier buried in cement. It seems easier to trowel in cement rather than go around filling every little crack with caulk

Hi Will, good questions! I didn't count how many minutes I mixed every bag, just until there are no lumps in the barrel. I have two different mixers - Dewalt and Collomix. Collomix is very good, but my best square paddle doesn't fit this mixer. For barrel I used a big square paddle, for the basket - small 4 sides square paddle. 1. My favorite paddle for barrel - amzn.to/3O7OoXS 2. Paddle for basket - amzn.to/3aMsQCy 3. COLLOMIX Power Mixer - amzn.to/3Q9XOEm 4. Dewalt drill - amzn.to/3B1JrNv

Thank you for how much you help us DIYers out here! I am considering self levelling. I have dips and waves all over my chipboard floor, the deepest being 17mm. In one spot the floor bounces by 1-2mm where some boards meet, but can’t get to the underneath and don’t to take up as it may weaken the surrounding boards. Not sure if this means I can’t use leveller. Wondered whether laying a thicker ply, say 12mm would give the floor more rigidity to then level, but not sure how a thicker ply will behave being screwed over the bumps in the floor?
@MrYoucandoityourself
@MrYoucandoityourself 2 года назад
If your floor bounces, follow old nails or screw lines to put new screws to push you floor down. If there some empty spots where is plywood joint, need to cut som square hole for checking support underneath. Do you have stud checker?

Can this be left as a finished floor, I like the look...and I plan to do this on a concrete foundation...Since I like this color of self level, I prefer to use this brand model of concrete...I do like the troweled look, so maybe it takes on if I trowel a little. Are there any additives I can put to give it more strength? I know in regular concrete they put fiber, but is there anything for this leveling? Also, do you recommend using mesh over the crack areas, in case this helps the top layer flex vs crack at the same spot?.

Do you think the OSB will absorb enough undiluted primer for the leveler to stay put or will the leveler just crack and come up?
@MrYoucandoityourself
@MrYoucandoityourself 3 года назад
Hi Todd, you did everything right. For plywood or OSB don't need to mix primer T with water. Don't forget put anti-fracture membrane, before you install tile, or put membrane first and then leveler over. Make sense?
@toddmasters1432
@toddmasters1432 3 года назад
@@MrYoucandoityourself Yes, I wanted to skim coat first to fill the gouges. Then membrane if that's ok? I'm dealing with only a 1/8" transition into the dinningroom so I cannot build up the subfloor to high. Do you have a thin membrane you could recommend? Thank you for your quick response and informative videos.

whats the point of sanding the floor when you are pouring a liquid compound all over it?

Hi, very good question! It's necessary make for cleaning plywood from mud and other dirt, also make floor little rough for better bonding. If you floor is clean, dust vacuum it and put primer. Thanks!

Should I be concerned with the weight of this product on the floor joist? It’s a 25x15 room, 1st floor, w/lowest spots as much as 1/2” with a triple 2x10 beam and basement jacks supporting and bearing weight across the center of the floor from below in the basement Customer is concerned with the weight of the product, but I’ve never had issues.

Hi Eric, Where is the lover spot, on the middle or close to the walls?
@MrYoucandoityourself
@MrYoucandoityourself 3 года назад
For this imperfection you need 12-15 bags of self leveling. It's not much. Ask the owner how heavy furniture in this room should be? If you compare - it's nothing.

@@MrYoucandoityourself Everything slopes to the middle of the house, which tells me the exterior wall footings and foundation are holding up well. There are 2 basement jacks smack dab in the middle of the house with a triple 2x8 beam bearing end to end....and that’s where the absolute lowest point is the worst @ 11/16” Should I sister jack right next to each post and stuff with shims, before I use the leveler-or just skip this step and go straight to leveling? @@erickaufman4674 Hi Eric, if you have a budget for carpenter's work, better fix this problem, if don't have money for it, use plywood to fix as much as you can, like here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UPowP3bez5A.html and then smooth it out with compound if need it. Thanks.
