This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use ru-vid.comUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

Thank for your video. I have the very same mower. I got my meet serviced and when I got it back. The shoot side was cutting way to low. I did what you said in the video. It still is cutting to low on the shoot side, it helped a little though. I just don't know if maybe I'm doing something wrong or did they put something on wrong or what. I'm not sure. I do have a bagger attached to the mower.

I was disgusted when we got the mower back from another visit to the shop and one of the tasks I asked them to do was to level the deck. What was written on the work order was "check deck level" and on the receipt after it was done, was "deck good." NOT taking it back to that shop. We mowed ONCE and it was clearly not leveled at all. Thank you for putting this up.

Good on you mate, great video, clear and concise. I have an MTD Yardman with a 42" 2-blade deck and the side-to-side leveling mechanism is the same, and the front leveling bolt-bar is very similar, only you have to drop the deck to adjust the 2 nuts (one nut adjusts the bar length, the other nut locks against it to maintain bar length). The only thing I would add, is that inflating to the same tyre pressures is a good start but don't stop there. Measure the height of the top of the rim above ground on both sides, and adjust the tyre pressure until both are the same and therefore axles level. Mine was out by 7mm with the same PSI, by dropping ~2PSI I could level the axle before doing the rest of the measuring and checking.

Ahh I like that one. Good thinking there. Nice tip. Yeah MTD makes these Troy-Bilts (and most other brands) so they are all very similar in setup!

Thank you for helping us diyer's like me to be able to fix simple things like this. Witout having to pay a lot of money to someone else. Now days people can't hardly pay someone else to fix their things. I just tried this on mine. I do appreciate it. But here's my issue I bought this same type of riding lawnmower from a pawnshop. Which was a good deal few years ago. I have noticed the side that shoots out looks like it's even where it is suppose to be. Now on the left side it is way much lower . In otherwords it is postion in angle position going from left is way lowered going upwards to the right and it sets up lot higher that the right does. Due to fact when i am cutting my grass it is cutting uneven like it is cutting my grass in a angle.What is the cause of it and how to resolve the issue? Please make a video so I can finally take care of this minor problem.

I dont get the reasoning for the front of blade to be 1/4-3/8 lower. I would think to cut level grass the blades should be level, and that is going by if the used blades aren't bent, therefore seems to me this adjustment should be done with new blades.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 года назад
The front should be slightly lower so you don't have double cutting. If the front is higher the blade cuts the grass in front and on the "back swing". Takes more power to cut it twice so wastes a little fuel and wears on the blades double.

Flip, I have LT160 riding mower that I got used and started using this year. When I mow thw lawn, I get a lot of clumps on the lawn between the two blades. Any suggestions besides the tire inflation, Blade sharpness and Deck adjustments? Should grass shoot be raised up so that grass clipping has way to shoot out?
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 5 лет назад
The three best tips I could give you are 1) Cut the grass a little taller. Raise the deck and cut it more often. 2) Go slower when cutting. This gives the grass blades more time to be thrown out and not left on the ground. 3) Make sure under the deck is clean and cut the grass when its dry. Discharge chute shouldn't need raising or anything. Hope that helps.

Theoretically speaking, couldn't you just level it from the outside of the deck? Assuming you dont have bent blades it seems like you could level it with bottom of the deck housing and it should be even. And if you have a bent blade they should be replaced anyway. Something Id like to know is does the markings on the height necessarily mean inches? Like would 1 be for 1 inch? So if you got to level and set the deck on 1 and adjust the deck at 1 inch (for the life of me idk who would cut to an inch, it would probably eat up your yard kicking dirt..lol) would that be appropriate and make the rest at the right adjustment to?
@mattcasdorph
@mattcasdorph 2 года назад
My whole deal is I don't have a solid flat spot anywhere at my place out in the rural area. Probably the road cause its paved but too much traffic. Might have to get a bunch of concrete and pour a small pad
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 года назад
On a lot of newer mowers that height markings do line up with exact inches you want to cut the grass, but not on this mower. I can only cut with mine on the highest setting. And yeah, you could get a rough estimate from the deck, but you want to be more precise when leveling, so I would go off the blades.

@fixitFlip

@@eliseleonard6093 Ha ha, it's not too hard. If you want to just get a really quick idea of which side is too low just measure the outside of the deck to the ground on each side. Then you adjust the gear. You will just need a couple tools. If you want to be more precise, then you can go under the deck and measure from the blade like I do in the video.

First thanks for your video but I have a question, my mower does not pick up all the leaves as it goes by. It tends to blow the away instead of sucking them up. Any hints what I could do to fix this. Thanks
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 года назад
What kind of blades are you using? Gator blades would help with that big time. Helps suck material up into the deck to chop it up. You can also put a mulching plug in your discharge chute if you want to go full-on mulching mode.

Could not move the brass colored adjustment gear with pliers or wrench. WD40? Lube? Otherwise all your videos are great.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 3 года назад
Did you loosen the bolt that goes into it before trying to turn the adjustment gear?
@johnhollister6815
@johnhollister6815 3 года назад
@@fixitFlip Yep. Would not budge. Can I take the tension off somehow? Thanks for the quick reply.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 3 года назад
@@johnhollister6815 Hmm. That bolt should be the only thing hold it in place. If you have loosened that, something's gotta be stuck. You could try propping a couple 2x4's under the deck to take the tension off like you said. And some WD40 never hurts. You could also try a big wrench with a pipe extension on the end to try and move it, but it really should take that much to turn it.

Good job. Please notice that the selector height is on 4, but the blade tips are actually cutting at about 2.5”. This is a common deal with riding mowers. What that means to you when you drop the selector to 3, you are cutting really low at about 1.5” or so. Homeowners chronically cut their grass to short. Solution is to raise the deck height selector to 5, which means you are cutting at about 3.5”.

I Would think the different makes of blades would make a difference. Going by what you said, 2.75 on the back 2.5 ON THE FRONT. IS THAT THE STANDARD, regardless of blade pitches. And maybe you should make a comment if you have a bent blade to replace them to get more accurate. For me and my mowing, I hit a lot of rocks!
