Im doing something wrong apparently. I bought the optical cable and plugged it into the receiver still nothing. Have I missed a step? Do I still need the rca plugs?
@@ross2342 I had to go to my television and in the settings tell it to play external speakers. Once I did that I then had to find where it was playing through my reciever (strangely enough it was in the dvd). It is working fine for me. Hope this helps
I just converted from an old picture tube TV to a Smart TV. Before, I was listening to through old Sennheiser wireless head phones. It comes with a transmitter that broadcasts on an old wireless phone frequency. My old TV had standard audio output on both the front and rear of the TV so that was straight forward. I am on Comcast and it turns out their box has a standard audio output so that is what I use. There is an audio signal coming out 24-hrs a day with the sound from the last thing you watched on the TV.

I have the older 2003 ONKYO sr-601 with two Optical ins and for the life of me I cannot get any sound at AMP / av receiver from PS4 or my new TV through Optical … tried every setting in Amp and Cable combo know to man Red comes out of the cable but still not Working and I’ve done a lot of AV stuff over the years … pls help if you have the time Cheers
You might also want to add that you need to change the sound setting on your tv to audio system instead of tv speakers. Otherwise this still will not work .
True...Most TVs have to have the speakers changed from TV speakers to "External Speakers" from Menu, to audio(or speakers)...ONCE you CHANGE THIS OPTION you MUST KNOW you will NOT(I REPEAT NOT) be able to listen to TV without the receiver(amp) turned on.
As another is it a 3 rca cable?and which part goes to tv and the single side does that go to the AUX of reciever?and can u alternatively do 3 rca of tv to 3 rca of reciever but where on the receiver do I put the 3 rca as there is slots everywhere

someone please help me, i have a pioneer vsx d603s and jbl g500 speakers, with 16 gauge wire, no sound comes out when i use rca to rca, rca to hdmi, rca to optical, the stereo doesn't have hdmi or optical on it
I just purchased a Roku TV and it came with an adapter that connects to “AV in“ on the TV and the other Endor it are the three typical RCA cables. I connected the DVD, “DVD in“to “DVD out“ on my receiver, and with another set of RCA cables I connected “video out“ from the receiver to to “AV in” on the back of the TV. I am wondering if this is the correct connection? I’m having a hard time trying to figure out the “input“ on these new smart TVs. I tried “AV“, “DVD“ and nothing is happening. If anyone is familiar with the smart TVs and a receiver that does not have an HDMI please help. Thanks.
I looked at some of your videos and everything seem simple but I'm having a problem. I have a JVC TV purchased in 2007 along with a Sony FM Stereo, FM/AM Receiver, Home theatre system. Hooked up to the receiver is a DVD/VCR combo system by Panasonic. I also have a Bose subwoofer and 5 Bose speakers for surround sound. Everything was fine until I cut the cord and went to streaming. I brought an Amazon fire stick not the 4K because my system was old. On the TV is a HDMI port which I plugged the fire-stick into but the receiver does not have a HDMI port. Went through the setup but there was no sound. I got angry and disconnected everything, however I put it all back from memory and now I don't get a picture from the VCR portion, and I still get no sound from the fire-stick Can you help me???????
I have a Panasonic AV Control Digital Receiver. I hooked up the Samsung Smart tv to the receiver via optical cable. I cannot get any voice to come through my speakers, only the effects. Thanks.
This question is a bit dated.... but if you are still in this situation, I would suggest one of these: - Get a better Fiber / TOS / Optical cable and try that. - Buy one of those HDMI Extractor conversion boxes. They are usually small and black... and have 1 HDMI Input and RCA jack outputs. Get a good HDMI cable... I think they have HDMI 2.0 cables now. - Purchase a newer receiver or amp - maybe used - that has HDMI Inputs. There are pretty inexpensive ones out there. If you purchase a 5.1, a 7.1 etc... that doesn't mean that you need to hook up all of those speakers. You can just use two. I would recommend for those, a 3.1 setup as a minimum. - Along the same vein... They are not as flexible as a full-fledged receiver.... but maybe a soundbar may be better for you.
Mine receiver is a Denon dra 37 and mine doesn’t have an optical output but it does have a dvd/vdp but it also has a monitor out on it I, not sure if mine will work though because I have a smart tv and I have a feeling the is receiver is from around 2005 because I bought it used at a yard sale so I’m not 100% sure how old it actually is.
Here's my issue and hope you can help me. I have Dish Network which has digital optical connection, my Sony receiver has one and my new Samsung TV has one. What's the best connection to use for the optical cable? Right now, I have the cable running from the Dish Network Hopper to my Sony receiver. Should I have it connected differently? i have wired speakers n a 4 k tv even with sound bar voice dialog is no good action parts sound to loud so i turn it down then up for voice etc so maybe i thought i can use my Technics 30+yrs old speakers and receivers to tv without sound bar. any suggests ? ps im hard of hearing also
I have a JVC RX-507VTN (1995) with the following RCA inputs: turntable, CD player, cassette deck, VCR and video disc player. NO other inputs. Which input can I use to plug my TV RCA inputs into so I can use the receiver to utilize Bose surround sound? I used each input and either got a buzz or no sound. Will I need to purchase some type of gadget to use the receiver, or do I just toss the receiver in the garbage can and purchase a newer receiver?

I have almost the same Sony receiver in the video and the L/R red white cable does not work on any channel. I am going to try the optical cable to see if that works

Yes, Be watching for more videos on strange connections and connections which are or are NOT on TVs. Some lower end (or even upper end) TV's only have an optical audio output...will have to have special(but inexpensive) adapters which I will go over. We just did this in our RV...It was almost impossible to hear certain movies when AC turned on(which is quite often here in Georgia during the summer) and made it almost impossible to hear TV. So we have that problem fixed now.
I have an LG HD353SD-A2 discontinued dvd/cd player, and a Samsung 4k Smart tv with only an optical audio out. I want to hook up tv to cd player to play tv on porch speakers. I have a converter.. optical to rca, & connected to RCA inputs.. i set tv settings to optical out.. i hit Bypass on cd player.. but no luck. Any ideas?

@@mikeolortegui260 Yes, If you have an optical port on both the TV and the receiver. It will act just like a HDMI would, it sends whatever is coming through the TV through your receiver. So even if you are using say a PS4 or Xbox through an HDMI plugged into a TV, the audio will go to your receiver.
Hi! I've tried several combinations and still no sound. First, audio out component panasonic smart tv to tv in av receiver, Second, Panasonic tv to Dvd In receiver, still no sound.. Finally, played a dvd through my player hook up to the tv and av receiver, I received sound.
