I do HF mobile livestreams, I use OBD for the software, using a capture card to capture my radio screen, I have my razor pro web cam, and when it comes to the audio I use a 2 wireless mic set up on one channel with my transmit and receive audio coming directly from my heil pro7 headset. Keeps it real simple but it took a good bit of researching and experimenting before I got to this stage. No need for those expensive wireless sets either I found a set made by kimafun for a fraction and the quality is awesome. I am always amazed at how much tech is evolving, like those big sound decks you have, comparing to the likes of the rode streamer pro. Maybe work you on HF one day 73 from Scotland

I get the noise mentioned, I use a Yeasu FT-450d with an SM58 mic and footswitch. I have to turn the mic gain in the radio down very low else there is some noise/distortion. If I go thru a mixer first it is even worse! The mixer feeds Line level and the radio is looking for the lower Mic Level signal. So if you are getting a noise/distortion need to find a way to lower that Line level out of the mixer to Mic Level at the front of the radio. Some people use D I boxes like you would for an acoustic guitar into a mixer. This you can remove gnd noise as they tend to have GND isolators and some have attenuation pads which will lower line level to mic level. Good luck I just go straight in with gain practically off and live with slight noise (seen and heard on a dead key) Use a web SDR local to you for testing

If keeping the various cables away from power supplies does not solve the problem (though I agree that it should), another place to look is the impedence from the monitor out and the mic in. An impedence mismatch could cause some hum.

My suggestion is like Mike said, USE FERRITE on everything. The hum is likely from a ground loop in the audio chain. This is not uncommon. If this is going to the radio, the real help will be from using an audio isolation transformer (with a ground lift ) coming out of the mixer. This should also have an option to pad down the audio going to the radio. Just a thought,

ABR INDUSTRIES ???? You got to do a video on them! Never heard of em, and we NEED more options in today's market! I bought 100ft LMR400 from a EBAY seller- ( 7eighteenelectronics )of USA , a NY based company, for my Base Station, so far it lasted 2 winters here in Maine Every 6 weeks or so, I put my antenna anylizer on it and read the meter, Its doing real good. One of these days i want to see what that Heliax stuff is all about. Great video! Always nice to watch your vids, and the links u provide help me out. MidCoast Maine waiving !73 ! stay warm, stay safe !

Mike great video like always. The audio is great but you running it a little bit hot. And if you check the part of the video at 5:08 you can see it was clipping. This is no disrespect to you just a friendly observation. I am still working on getting my audio perfect I have been using a OBS for a few years Now but never with a radio until recently. I know. I actually cleaned the mixer before shooting and moved some of the knobs. I'm keenly aware the mic was too hot. Glad you think I'm funny though. Like I'm a clown here to amuse you lol?

Question: Why oh why, do radio makers ,who have radios with removable faces, do not run the mic to the face, instead of back to the radio? This never made sense to me. I've had a couple of Yaesu like this. Thanks, Rob W8REJ

Simply brilliant, I was trying to understand this connectivity between a mixer, audio interface and yes the incredible OBS software showing multi cams... I wanted to know if this same procedure of sound mixing can be done for the Yaesu FT891? And also a smaller mixer-cum-USB audio interface if you can please suggest. My qth is in New Delhi, 🇮🇳 Cheers!

What’s the audio chain the other way? From the radio to headphones and speakers? Usually once the h/p Jack is inserted, it mutes the speaker.

There is no other audio chain. For live streams I plug in the headphone jack to route the audio the way I showed. When I'm not streaming I unplug it.

i am very surprised that you dont use the sub group 3/4 outputs for the radio and the mains for the pc that way you can have stereo into the computer, as for hum, you can actually cut the ground on the usb cord to the mixer and that will avoid that ground loop. What is the part number for the heil adapter to the radio? I have the headset one, which will work, but i need to find the pinout of the 3.5mm TRS jack on the adapter

What are your EQ and Gain settings for your mic on the mixer and the EQ and Gain settings on the radio? Also do you have any mic processing turned on on the radio side?
