Geez... really??? Another how to load a truck camper video? Well, it’s a bit of that plus what I think are some very useful time saving tips and tricks to make loading a large truck camper not only easy, but also more safe. one of these tips will prevent damage to your truck bed when the camper is loaded. My truck camper tie downs are the Torklift Fast Guns
I also use the Torklift frame mounts. They are completely necessary when hauling a big camper.
I also quickly show where I relocated my camper license plate and added 12 volt license plate lights.

Good Video Jeff. Twenty years ago we had an Elkhorn Camper with slide and 8 foot bed and I got good at loading and unloading as I would almost always unload our camper at the camp from so we could run around in the truck. Now after four Toy Hauler Travel Trailers, we are back to an Elkhorn Camper, no slide, 6.5 foot bed and it seems harder than our 8 foot camper.

@@covetthecamper2289 Any camper that is good for you is GREAT! People camp differently , their desires are different and so many variables are involved. We have NO children traveling with us plus we like to stay on the go, so a truck camper is perfect for us. You have a nice camper. Peace!

That’s great Ed. I have no regrets with this set-up. If I may give just a bit of advice; if you can find a Lance Camper that’s 2006 or newer, they started usin Azdel composite substrate instead of Luan plywood under the fiberglass siding. No delamination of the sidewalls with that Azdel. If you don’t want or need a Slideout, look at Bigfoot or Northern Lite fiberglass campers. Built like a boat hull. Good luck with your camper quest.

@@covetthecamper2289 Well we took the plunge!! Couldn't afford a 2006 or newer so settled on a older 1999 1030 Lance, Pristine inside! I went all though it with my flash light, bone dry!! No delam. Onan Propane Genny and a solar panel on the roof. Got it for 3,500. I installed Torklift Talon's frame mounts with Fast Guns. Just want a couple of years out of it. Then we will go much newer!!! We Pick it up tomorrow (Friday) Going to re caulk the whole thing when we get it home.

Nice job but my challenge is always just lining the truck up with the camper. I’ve got a megacab so it’s difficult and takes a few trips in and out to make sure I’m lined up right...a PITA😜. Thanks for all your vids!

Pretty easy when you have 4 jacks that run at the same time with a remote. Try doing it with a manual crank by yourself.
@toddmccue1823
@toddmccue1823 11 месяцев назад
A side note. You can mark your jacks leg extensions. Raise until you see red phase tape.I put truck in neutral(auto or stick) with e brake applied when lowering camper on truck. Seat rear of camper first then front. Sets your camper tightly to bed front, without stressing bed front , camper front wall or pulling on camper front bump stops.

heres a tip, your front camper window has a black center line vertically in the slider. The trucks 3rd brake lite in the middle will mark your rear truck window center line. Mark back truck window with black tape vertically. As you backup line the two black lines of those windows as a guide...may save a trip or two getting in and out.

I have a sheet of plywood with a stripe down the center. And a line of tape on the center of the truck camper. Works wonders.

What kind of stabilizer jacks did you have under your camper?

Before you lower camper ,align camper cabover center clearance light with truck rear view mirror. measure or eyeball rear camper alignment.

Why don't you screw the spacer boards to the camper? Would pressure treated 2x4 be okay?

Put a piece of plywood or better 4x8 sheet of rigid insulation desired thickness, for camper raise. always raise front of camper 2 to 3 inches higher than rear of camper . this tranfers cantilever weight from front cabover sleeper to stronger mounted jacks in rear of camper.If you have hydraulic jacks ,rest camper on tall saw horses to minimize effort and time of jacking up camper..

You have me really thinking hard about doing this. So often I find leveling difficult because of the front needing a raise. Now it's ok since I have anderson wheel risers, I can drive onto but it would be nice to just roll in and be done with it.

My lance power jacks will not run off shore power. The manual says only use 12V. Fyi
@covetthecamper2289
@covetthecamper2289 4 года назад
Right, none of the truck camper jacks run off of 110AC. I plug in so the batteries are getting the boost while running the jacks. (Same with the Slideout motor) If I’m away from shore power, the solar panels replenish the batteries in no time.

Hello, new camper owner here. One question I have is why are you laying plywood own on the bed before sitting your camper on them?
@covetthecamper2289
@covetthecamper2289 3 года назад
Congratulations on your new camper! I place either high density foam board or plywood down on the bed for a few reasons; To keep it up off of the bed floor in case water gets down in there if driving during heavy rain. It also lifts it up slightly (3/4”) so it clears the running lights on the cab a bit more. (We do go off-road a fair amount and the camper/bed move independent of the cab) It also helps stabilize the camper in the bed preventing it from slipping side to side in windy conditions and bumpy roads.(expansion joints on highways are brutal)

I done fucked up on putting the camper on my truck I'm 2 ½ inches on the passenger side and 5 inches on the driver side. You can definitely tell she's not centered was hoping he'd mention this in the video but he didn't guess having a dually is pretty easy to center considering you only have so much room on each to play with so as long as your not scuffing your dually fenders your pretty much golden my truck however you have to have the eye of an eagle to center it

SRW is a bit tricky. Place a masking tape line at the center of your truck bed and another tape line at center of camper belly. Line those up when backing under. I have seen people use laser pointers from the dollar store as well.

Truck campers go all the way in. You can stop short and lower the legs just right for a snug fit. For us a truck camper is the only way to travel and/or camp.

Ok…. It was one of the largest truck campers on the market at the time. It’s 11’ 6” on the floor cab to rear door with a Slideout and 4200 pounds loaded. Piddly puny? I think not.
