Solo Female Shows How to Unload and Load a Truck Camper | Truck Camper Living - Last week you saw Wendy with her truck camper tour of the Host Cascade truck camper which is her full time RV living home on wheels. This week Wendy is showing how she loads and unloads her truck camper from her Ram 3500 4x4 truck. Truck camper living for Wendy includes unloading the truck camper so she can explore the area in her 4x4 truck. Living in a truck camper, she often unloads the truck camper so she has the freedom to move around more and doesn't have to break camp.
RV life is about exploring and wandering and so this is the perfect set-up for her full time RV living and truck camper life. She is mostly doing off grid living full time in her Host truck camper which is more like a small apartment according to Wendy.
Wendy has some great tips for the truck bed camper on how to offload and unload it on her Ram 3500 dually.

★ My Story
Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started full time RV living. I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of traveling full time in an RV and creating incredible memories.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B van on a Promaster 2500 chassis. Now in my 4th year of RVing in my camper van, I'm still loving this RV lifestyle and being a digital nomad. I almost always boondock in nature and really enjoy that off grid living.

there are a few on here saying it's a hassled and I say she's doing all this on her own without help from anyone. The thing about Vans and Class B and C Rvs is that when you need a truck to haul something, you need to either rent one or call a friend for a favor. With truck camper, you have the best of both worlds, I guess to each their own. I'm saving for a lighter setup for a 1/2 ton pickup, something like a FourWheelCamper Hawk model for a Toyota Tundra. With that being said, that is an awesome rig,...stay safe and happy camping.
@AmberJBaldwin

Eddie T 😀 She did a great job and knows her rig well. Practice makes perfect. It took her longer because of the filming and explaining, but most of the time she's done very quickly.

I have a quad dually and a Lance truck camper and I tell you loading a camper on a dually is NOT easy. I love the way the lady describes each step. I love the way she explains how things need to line up, all in all a GREAT video. The more unleveled the ground makes loading one harder. In fact it takes my wife and I to load ours. I love my truck camper but if someone tells you it's a piece of cake, well don't believe them. NOW it is easier without a quad cab. Thanks for sharing and not editing everything out.

This video is really helpful for me as I am just learning to put my camper on and off my truck (first successful attempt this week!). You were very calm and seemed to have your steps to loading/unloading down to an art. Note to self: stay calm, figure out the steps and do it the same way every time

She did a really great job considering she is on unlevel ground. But, What are you Royal PITA. Ive had nine campers from big foot's to Lance's, Northern Lite, SnowRiver whatever else and they're all a PItA to take on and off. Very impressed that she did it in an uneven field. People need to understand that this is very difficult and takes a tremendous amount of skill or you can truly screw up very quickly. If you were on a perfectly level concrete pad or something like that it's much more doable, but it's still a chore . IMHO If you wanna be taking something on and off your truck, a trailer is WAY easier and much less likely to end catastrophicly. Bravo, well done!

She was / is a real champion... to assist in this program. Showing the process of unloading and loading the camper. Plus doing it, with the exception of you filming, by herself. It's a chore, but as she stated practice makes perfect. Plus it is not something that should be rushed. It doesn't take that long and to take it one step at a time and watch the jacks, check everything each step of the process. It's worth it. The RV camping world has come along way with the electric jacks, torsion bars, tie downs... the whole system. I know that you use to put Shock struts from under the over head bed to the front fenders to prevent some of the rocking motion of the camper. I think also this makes a good point for a backup camera... However hat's off to her for the demonstration. Great program, hope for more on the subject. I like the idea of a camper. It just seems like there is more information on trailers.

I leave my TC on the truck much of the time while camping. But, it literally takes 5 minutes for me to unload and about 15 minutes to load onto my truck. My truck has a backup camera above the bed that is a huge help when loading and I also have mounted a small laser that makes alignment very easy and precise. I don't have to get out of the truck during the process. Truck campers are super versatile. Loading and unloading is a piece of cake

I've owned truck campers for about 30 some years and have never taken them off the truck at a campsite. For the life of me, I have no idea why some people do that. If there's high winds the camper could topple over. All of the components that raise/lower and attach the unit to the trucks built for that use. Or maybe I just feel doing that every day would be a pain in the butt... Safe Journeys and Enjoy Life...🏕🚙🏕🚙🏕

If I didn't need garage service or go into town, I'd keep that camper on the truck all the time. Wendy's being smart & careful. You'd think if you just drove your truck forward then just reversing it without turning the wheel would have you back right under the camper. Of course if you've just came back from exploring in the truck it's a different story. Thanks so much for the demonstration, ladies!

At first, I was yelling when you started backing in that you have the tie downs on, but then realized that with the swing out jacks, the tie downs don't stick out past the fenders! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one doing the GOAL 25 times to get the camper loaded. I always wondered if the fast guns need to be adjusted each time. Had to laugh about the 'do you worry about someone stealing it'. My first thought was if they can do it, they can have it, but I suppose it's more likely they would just leave it with a ton of damage. I may start hiding the remote somewhere though. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome video! I watched the first one all about the "Host" camper. Got me interested in pickup-cabover. Just sold my 28ft Class C, had a tow dolly and "Toad car". Alot involved when hookup and loading, especially when doing by yourself!! You are awesome with filming Amber, and Wendy, great job. Once a RVer, gets their "Pre-Flight" routine down, it is a great feeling to get behind the wheel, knowing you got all wires attached, all tie downs latches, all counters cleared, and doors, and drawers secured. Kudos to a very educational video. I am leaning towards the same type of setup, having use if truck when needed for hauling, and the luxury of "home away from home" is an excellent option! Great answer about my only question, "theft". It would take someone a great deal of effort to steal it, and like you said, neighbors are resourceful when traveling alone. Info on the Stabilizers was awesome!! Thank you both. I will continue to watch you videos. 😊 Safe and Happy travels to you!

Great video ... very impressive! Watched another video on your brand and he commented on how his dogs claws got caught in the holes in the steps ! He was getting step covers but because they are narrow than most steps he had to special order...duct tape for now will cover the holes. Thanks for your videos !

Nice job loading! Theft is probably least likely with a TC, but if your really worried, pull the jack fuse so they don't have power.

All those jacks have an override where if you don't have power you can still crank them up and down with a socket.

For those of you that have 4 electric jacks, it's pretty easy. Much harder when you have 3 manual crank jacks.😢

When you pull in your campsite in the afternoon to spend the night, you need to level your rig. You probably don't unload from your truck just to spend the night. Do you use the happijacks to level the rig or are you using blocks under the wheels to do this. I have not seen a video on how most with truck campers are doing this.
@wendyhoffman3985
@wendyhoffman3985 4 года назад
I can do it two ways, yes use blocks under truck wheels or I can level using the jacks but not officially take off truck. Either works great.

Wendy Kadner how often do you remove the camper Wendy? Does it just depend on how long you'll be there?

It would be nice if the seven way plug was at the back of the trailer instead of the front. They could run it to the front on the camper inside of the body of the camper.

I’m just learning about all this to see if it’s what I want. I have a brand new Ram dually so I cringed when you left that DC cord on the fender and dragged it. But truck means different things to different people so no judgement there haha. I will say, this look like much more work than my bumper pull. I don’t want a motorhome but I dislike the time with a bumper pull. This disconnect looks even more complicated. Anyone out there that have had either let me know if you think this is better or not? I’m truly asking.

1) I would never raise and lower with slide out. 2) I would never raise and lower with stablizers engaged. Get everything level and then open your slide and install your stabilizers.

Awesome rig. We really enjoy truck campers. The only issue for us is that we use a lot of Rv parks and they typically don’t allow the truck campers.

Our Real Life Escape Thanks so much! ☺️ They don't? Why is that?
@ourreallifeescape9794
@ourreallifeescape9794 4 года назад
From my understanding it has to do with insurance requirements on the parks behalf. Also a lot of parks have an image of old ugly campers when you say truck camper. Sometimes parks will let you stay if you agree not to take it off the truck.

I have another question. I believe that your camper model requires the extension of at least one of the slides for you to be able to enter. Doesn’t that prohibit you from stealth camping in parking lots?
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 4 года назад
Edith P. 😀 She doesn't really stealth camp but does just fine in Walmarts, Cabela's, etc where they allow you to stay overnight.

Me to. I hate the idea I have to leave the truck to get in the camper. Safety, weather etc. where a rv like yours for example you just get out of your seat and walk into you living space.

Wow, this is really something. I've never even been inside a truck camper, but I have to wonder why unload and load the camper every time? Isn't it a benefit of having a truck camper that you don't have to do this very often? She said it didn't matter if her slides were in or out. She's really good at it, and maybe that's reason enough, but isn't it wear and tear on the camper too? A bit risky? And it seems like a lot of exacting work too.

Good video very educational one thing I was noticing is on the camper it self has those really skinny for stabilizer Jacks they look like toothpicks compared to the actual camper I would have thought they would have definitely been a lot bigger than what they were to stabilize it better on all four corners because that's what I would be afraid of is the wind blowing it around

@@AmberJBaldwin that's cool I just want to make sure if I ever have a truck camper I would like my stabilizer Jacks to be extremely strong just to make sure nothing ever happens but I can also understand are you lowering it it helps with the Wind
