In this video I demonstrate how to load film into the Pentax 67, including a small trick I picked up recently that makes the process a bit smoother.

There is an additional 120/220 switch on the side of the camera near the wind lever that needs to be set properly (at least this is true for my 6x7 MLU). I believe it controls the exposure counter. Thank you for the video.

I had realised this since making the video but never thought to add a comment to make note of it. Valid point, and it applies to all of these cameras!

I didn’t know this and left mine on 220…. Did I damage the camera? I just decided to take the film out

An additional tip is to not peel the tape off the roll until after you get the roll installed into the camera. That way you do not have to fuss with keeping the roll from unwinding. :)

That's a good one! I have a weird lobster claw way of holding it between my pinky and ring fingers but your way definitely sounds less risky :)

Cuite loading trick. 35 years with the 67, and I had not tumbled to it. However, you need to secure some resistance to the advance of the paper leader (thumb on roll) to insure a tight wind on the takeup spool. A loosely wound takeup may expand enough to bind in the right film chamber and jam before the whole roll is shot.
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 3 года назад
That's very true! I've only had one "fat roll" out of ~40 rolls total but you're right.

@@Shaka1277 Took more than 20 years for my first one, but it takes only one to learn the lesson. The real danger there is that if you tend to force the matter, you can seriously damage the highly geared film advance mechanism.

Helpful…. Just received my “new” Pentax 6x7, and loading it, had the issue of the spools dropping in too far, then getting them aligned, was tricky! Thank you!

You should also mention to verify or adjust the ASA/ISO setting on the camera for the ASA/ISO of the film.

Thanks super helpful! What piece is on top of your Pentax? I see you have removed the light meter, which I want to, but I can’t find the piece to replace it with?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 10 месяцев назад
It's the waist-level viewfinder (WLF) to replace the prism! It's not just the removal of the meter, but the image is flipped left-to-right when using a WLF and they're very difficult to use in portrait orientation.

Hi! I'm having trouble pulling the silver tab to open the back. I literally can't do it with my nail and have to use a pair of scissors ever time. Do you know if there's a solution for this?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
I'm sorry but I don't know of any proper solution for this. Maybe there's some gunk/grit stuck in the channel that the silver locking strip/bar lives in. I guess you could try prying that tab open with scissors and adding a tiny (*tiny*) drop of sewing machine oil, then releasing the tab? If you open and close the tab a bunch of times it *might* spread the oil enough to lubricate it and make it easier to use. Other than that I don't really know. :(

Hey, I wanted to ask about metering on the Pentax 67. If I shoot wide open on the 105mm f2.4, should I set my metering app (lghtr) to f 2.4 or f1.2?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 9 месяцев назад
f/2.4 - the f/stop is not affected by crop factor if that's what you're thinking!

It appears that when you're advancing the film to the first frame there's not much resistance? When I advance it there's a lot more resistance, is that normal?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
There's almost none! Every time a friend has loaded the camera it's very obvious when the first shot is being cocked. There seem to be very small variations between models based on other comments here, but I only know one other person know with the 67 specifically (not 6x7, 6x7 MLU, or 67ii) and his works like mine. What model do you have?
@MoghulVeyron
@MoghulVeyron Год назад
@@Shaka1277 I have the 67 MLU, that's probably why, recently had it serviced and it's still has that tension, i think it's part of how it is

Problem is the 'line-up' with the full roll and I think you tried a couple of times as you cut that part out of the video at 3:15?
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 Год назад
I'm not sure what you mean, sorry. The cut at 3:16 is just me struggling to take the tape off the outer edge of the backing paper.
@sneakingelephant

at 4:55 you start advancing the film till it reaches 0. on my pentax 67 it stops each time I advance and I have to fire the shutter to keep winding it. till I reach 0. am I doing something wrong or is there a specific issue with my 67
@Shaka1277
@Shaka1277 2 года назад
Which specific model do you have? A 6x7, 6x7 MLU, 67, or 67ii? The behaviour may be different between models. I've tried two 67s in my life and the other one behaved like mine but I can't speak to the other models. Perhaps both of the ones I used are broken? I know mine had shutter problems in the past which were repaired.
