Thanks so much for watching everyone! One quick note, I know the stripes are horizontal. I misspoke in the video and added a text overlay correcting the error but it must not be bold enough :) Thank you so much for all of your wonderful support and encouragement. Happy Sunday ❤️
Audrey Audrey Audrey...why did you made me hooked on you 🤣 kidding aside, I really luv your practical and awesome tips on how we can better ourselves. Very well thought of And your personality doesn’t hurt either. It is so soft and gentle, reasons why I luv you Vlogs. - from your new fan.
Hey Audrey, You look awesome. Very graceful in talk and presentation. I am a huge fan of you, not only by style of clothes. Also the way you talk, slower and calmer. I am on a heavier side. I would like to see styling tips for heavy personality. Also suggest some jewellery to play with. Thank you.
I’m only 48 seconds in and it hit me “I think I love her”. You come across as so kind and gentle. I just love the way you speak and the way you convey information and your knowledge in such a thoughtful and caring way. You really are so special. If you’re ever in Colorado, I’d love to meet for a coffee. (P.S. I’m not a weirdo.) You just inspire me so much, not just in fashion, but to be a better and more conscientious person. ❤️😊
”Life is to short to miss out on life because u don't like what u have to wear!” wow!!! That really hit me. I avoid going to baby showers, high school reunions, family events, I even avoid going out to run errands sometimes because of how I feel I look in my clothes. Thanks for helping me.
Audrey I typically don't comment on videos but I MUST today! This video was absolutely wonderful and so essential. I love watching your videos (whilst taking notes!) And this is no exception! I'm 31 and my goal is to elevate my style from casual to sophisticated and classic and your videos are a definite go-to for reference! I'm looking forward to the next installment of this series. Thank you for your channel😊
same. i look at these kinds of outfits and enjoy them on other people but i wouldnt feel comfortable in them. i love oversized sweaters and feel strange in anything with a heel
Thanks I learned a few things such as tucking sweaters, reattaching pant hems, wearing pendants at the narrowest part of the waist and matching tights to ankle boots. Awesome!
I've been doing many of these, including the necklace trick for years but could never articulate why I make these styling choices. Thank you for explaining everything so clearly and succinctly. As always, lovely video!
OMgeeeeeeee!!!!! I love you so much! I love how elegant and straight to the point your videos are! You are very elegant and your voice is so soothing! Plus I love you even more because you are classically trained😍I’m classically trained as well but on the piano. I love your style so much! Sending love from the Philippines!😘💕💕
I'm a bit confused by the cropped pants - to me, it makes you look shorter and sort of cut off, especially in the second outfit with the boots. Wouldn't longer pants make a nice, sleek line with the boots? It seemed awkward to have that bit of bare leg hanging out. Even with the other pant/shoe combinations, it felt like so much space between the hem and the shoe. I have very short legs, so I do everything I can to elongate them!
Your videos are SO HELPFUL. I’m 40 years old and feel like I’m just learning to dress myself, and it’s thanks to people like you who can break down style and the “why” of good looks, not just the “what.” Thank you, Audrey.
Great video, It's also such a welcome change to see someone who dos'nt come across as shallow, condescending and overly self-obsessed! great advice and a' big Thumbs up' from me!
I have updated three jackets which had bulky folded up sleeves, by tailoring the sleeves to fit better and just above my wrists. I also updated the buttons. What a difference a little update makes. I have also tailored my favorite jeans and learned how to re-attach the bottom hem. Thank you for your tips! I sew by hand. Its relaxing. Therapeutic even. 😀👍
I just stumbled on this channel and finally someone knowledgeable on fashion and can give universal useful tips for everyone-and not just their fashion opinions. Love this!!! Definately subscribing before 1 million subscribers!!!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Sometimes it’s so hard to see yourself objectively in ones clothes. Watching you in some of my own choices makes me realise the silhouette I am missing. I really need to embrace the “skimming the body” concept. It definitely flatters more than the looser fit that I have chosen to hide my flaws.
A money saving tip I did was to taylor my own clothes. I often buy from thrift stores, I have had 2 children and my weight has changed so to save money while transitioning I bought what I could afford and just sewed the pieces to fit my frame better. Sometimes just replacing buttons upstyles a blouse. The best tging to do is to know your frame, your silouette, and work with your wardrobe to work for your body. If it doesn't in it's current state, alter it.
I just found you a few days ago. Thank you for a lovely channel. I don't know how it happened that women lost all their sense of fashion, how to look great and dress like a lady but I"m glad I'm not the only one left who enjoys looking great, even in the most simple, less expensive garments that anyone can afford.
Your video really has helped me learn what has been my dressing mistake for the past years! I have always have the visual line (when I wear pants) at the hips and through your video, I see for myself how raising the visual line makes everything 10x better-looking!!
I wish I had this talent... i mean being able to just know what works. I suck at dressing myself ...I will be looking at more of your videos to get some good tips.
You are the sweetest spokes person ! Your ideas are so good. I just turned 52 :) and adopted a 12 & 15 year old Girls ..I want to dress age appropriate yr style is spot on. I see these 50 year old women with their teenagers clothes on.. They look silly... so I do not want that look. As a business owner your “luxe style “ has me eager to view your videos ! I wish you where my neighbor !! :) I am in Louisiana .. Hot hot & very humid ..I would have you over every day to be my stylist ! Thanks again sweet heart for your encouragement and knowledge. You’re a blessing to watch. Take care, Denise
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and support of my channel, Denise! Congratulations on adopting your daughters and I can't thank you enough for following along. It makes me so happy that my videos are helpful :)
The title of this video should be, "Watch a woman get progressively more French" haha. Thank you so much for including visuals, and explaining your decisions in detail in a way that makes sense and can be used while putting any outfit together for everyday. And thank you for emphasizing that the default is for clothing to be tailored to you, or at least the oversized should be balanced with the fitted. I'm kind of sick of clothing being so oversized. The trend is everywhere. Sometimes it's simply not flattering on anyone, and especially not for those of us on the shorter side, or god forbid, carrying a little extra weight.
@@kaiwindingwest vertical lines, dark tights and dark wash jeans, synched waists, heels, darker bottoms, no turtlenecks if you can avoid it, no chunky belts if you can avoid them, less distracting dresses, darker colours give a streamlined look as opposed to clothes with a ton of designs, etc
@@kateb6893 Loool, when you've met like 3 people named Kate and they were all nice and you think carriers of that name must all be nice, then youtube comes along..😂 There is nothing wrong with asking for help, she never said it was her job, she said "please share.." such a polite person you attacked, shame on you. If am tall and a fashionable person who seems to know about fashion more than me is sharing short people fashion tips coz she is short, I have the right to ask for tips for tall people and hope she responds, if she doesn it is still ok. Now, if she shares tall people tips instead, I keep quiet coz Ive been served, short people will ask her for tips on short people clothes.
This is enormously helpful--seeing the mistakes in the context of your improvements is terrific. Well done. (As always.) One request: I live in an extremely warm climate, so layers, long sleeves and even hose are usually not part of our wardrobes. Most people here seem to wear baggy shorts and flip-flops, but I moved here only recently, and I'm not a shorts and flip-flops kind of girl. If there's a way to make clothes flattering and attractive in a hot climate, I'd love to see it!
Sue Cox I live in the Knoxville, TN area and never wear shorts. Ankle pants in summer or a bit shorter length. You would be surprised how cool light cotton or linen can be. Looks more polished -- I'm not a shorts and flip flops girl either. Just pants as described above and various sandals.
South Moravia probably isn't that hot in comparison but it's hot enough for me, and I wholeheartedly second these suggestions. Lightweight natural fibre wovens. (Knits are more insulating than wovens, even in 100% cotton.) Skirts and dresses. Looser fit. And this is a bit counterintuitive, but if you have a lightweight woven in a light colour, covering up more actually helps you stay cooler, because the sun isn't beating down on your skin. (People traditionally living in deserts cover up for a reason.)
P.S. The one time someone told me I must be wearing designer clothing when I was not was in a summer outfit of white wide-legged trousers (I made them myself) and a white Indian blouse of a very simple looser shape but richly embroidered in turquoise. The blouse has cca 3/4 sleeves and a fairly modest neckline. I was more covered up than most, and still probably a lot more comfortable, clearly looking chic, and feeling great. :-)
"life is too short to miss out on things because you hate what you're wearing" Wow.. this is why clothing isn't stupid or petty. It affects you (girls especially but also guys) psychologically which impacts your quality of life!
I love this series. I just love your style and your voice is so soothing, I can listen to you all day. I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. Keep up the amazing work you're doing. You're an inspiration!!
Great new series! So often I see women wearing crops that hit at the fullest part of the calf -- not a flattering length. I tend to wear ankle length or a tiny bit shorter to avoid the always-too-short-for-me cropped pants!
I absolutely love this. I usually have trouble figuring out which colors suit me best. How do you know what colors to dress in and what colors to stay away from? In that same line of thought, how can you tell what your "season" is?
Hi Audrey. I'm glad that I happened upon you. I'm always searching for decluttering, minimizing and downsizing but RU-vid thought I'd like to see your videos, too. Maybe you'll add in decor, hostessing and dressing for occasions in the future. So, entertaining. Thanks. =)
I'm surprised that I'm just now coming across this video, but I honestly love it! This makes me think back to when What Not to Wear used to be on TLC. Thanks for sharing your tips and insights, Audrey!
New subscriber today. You come across really well, knowledgeable, polite, with a warm, gentle & encouraging manner. I'm an accredited beauty therapist & make-up artist, but I don't follow many YT fashion/beauty channels as so many seem to have no real purpose & others seem to talk *at* you rather than *to* you, whether they are well-informed or not. You however, do it all very well & you come across as genuinely wanting to share what you've learned with us. Best of luck.
I love this video. My request is how to style the before pieces in a flattering way. Or should we just take them out of our wardrobes? I loved this video because many of us look like the before and would like to know how to make those pieces work. I tend to wear the before type clothing when traveling because I want to be comfortable but am never really happy with the style level. Should we just be done with it and donate that clothing or can they be styled in a stylish way? Thank you
Mim Miao .... Hi ....I think that this is a really thoughtful question. For example the camel coat is lovely ... I have a similar type of coat in a blush /beige colour. It would be good to see what would work well with a oversized piece!
Wear the before clothing separately from one another. One loose item of clothing (jacket/coat, shirt, or pants) at a time, with the rest of the outfit being fitted. It's all about balance. If everything is loose, the clothes swallows the person. If one thing is oversized but the rest of the outfit is fitted, it looks cute. A loose shirt with leggings/skinny jeans, a fitted shirt tucked into baggy pants, a fitted top and bottoms with a big ol' coat, etc. One thing to remember is to find what part of your body looks best as the cutoff points (waist, hips, or thighs; above knees, at knees, below knees, calves, or ankles) for hems. Incorporated that info into your outfits. *disclaimer, I'm not a big fashion expert, it's just what I've noticed looks good.
have you ever heard of the Kibbe body types? it's a system used for caregorizing models and what clothes they look best in. this video touched on a lot of the same points! it's very helpful
I would listen to you talk about anything, your voice is so calming and relaxing! You should consider performing for audiobooks! Love your content, new subscriber as of today!
Great tips, Audrey, love the long necklace idea for us shorter ones! One problem I find difficult is proportion with jackets, shoulders, sleeves etc. Sometimes I look when I was a child and my Mum used to buy a school blazer one size up, to enable me to "grow into it"! When a jacket really fits everywhere as it should, it makes such a difference. Love your hair today by the way! : -)
Great video - spot on advice - we are the same height and people are always so surprised when I tell them why height because they think I am so much taller than I actually am and it’s because I too have learned how to dress with vertical in mine. I absolutely avoid using pockets. They usually create bulk and break the up and down motion of the eye that creates the illusion of length. In fact on most of my jeans I sew pockets shut - to greater effect a streamline look. Also garments are not created as well as they used to be back in the 50s - so what a pocket does is🏵it pulls down on the shape of a fabric and eventually will distort the drape of a garment unless of course you have a “you’re a garment.
Darn it it got published before I had finished- What I was trying to say is unless the garment is handmade of couture quality a pocket can rarely accommodate the weight of caring things.
Great video! Loved the before and after comparison! I am petite also (5’1&3/4”), also small framed, but with longer legs and a shorter torso. Pretty straight through the hips and busty. I tend to avoid wearing belts because it cuts the visual line, especially since I’m busty, but I do like what they can do to an outfit. I’d love to see some advice on wearing a belt in this situation. I’m loving the idea of a series. Love just sitting and listening to you. You’re so calming!
Wonderful as always Audrey. Would love to know if there’s anything different you’ve done with your hair! As for requests: it would be great to see you take a couple of basic pieces and go through what you would request as far as tailoring. For example: shirt, skirt, pants, dress- what parts would you point out to improve the fit? Thanks!
What a great idea, Mama M.D.! I sew a little and make some of my alterations, and I often see women shaped like me (shorter than average, hourglass but overweight) that would look a million times better if they had someone take in their dresses at the waist, or put darts above the bust on a shirt, or hem their skirts at a flattering point on their legs, or shorten the sleeves on a jacket. It really makes a world of difference. As much as I grumble about paying good money for alterations (for the things that are beyond my skills) once I put that newly-tailored piece on, I have to recognize that it takes the look from slightly slovenly to "I am confident and well put together"...and that image has positive impact in all areas of my life. It's such a worthy investment!

Thank you for these helpful tips& you look such a lovely person!
Hi Miss Audrey! I just discovered your channel today and I love you already. You're just so eloquent it feels like I'm talking to a very dignified person. 😭 For the next video though can you show how you would match each piece of clothing (say, the trench coat) with the others to create a look with it as the central figure? For example if I only have that one oversized trench coat to wear which pants and shoes and shirt should I pair it with so it would look fine even if it is oversized? It would mean a lot especially for those with limited wardrobe options. I hope I conveyed my suggestion right 😭 Starting my binge watch on your channel now! ❤️
Your outfits won't work for someone with a wide waist. Tucking shirts in that are a contrasting color to the bottom piece make me look wider and draw attention to my problem area. Do you have any suggestions for us? Kathy B.
wearing baggy, wider and bigger clothing will not solve your problem area, in fact in will only make everything else bigger, wider and i am sure that's not what you are going for. if you're happy with the body you have, embrace it and enjoy well-fitted clothing but if you want to improve yourself then just tucking in a shirt or rolling up the sleeve won't help.
Diana R no… I find that for me it makes me look like "that uncle" who wears his pants hiked up… Not sure why it ends up looking like that, but it does seem to create that effect, on me anyway.
I also have that pear-shaped appearance but I agree that wearing baggy clothes that completely cover the bottom don't really serve you right. What works for me is making sure to tuck some in to draw attention to the area above the belt. So I either tuck my shirt in completely but I make sure to wear something on top of that (an open shirt for a casual look, or a blazer for a more sophisticated look) or I tuck something in just partly at the front (asymmetrically if I'm feeling playfull). I generally think it's not helping to think that you need to cover your whole bottom - Just embracing it can work wonders. I like short pencil skirts for example. Combine a dark skirt with a top that draws attention to your torso (Stripes, colours, Boxy Sweaters) to distract from your waist instead.
Would you consider doing a capsule wardrobe suitable for a person who is a little overweight and retired (so have no need for any work/formal clothes)! Any tips would be appreciated!
Thank you again for a very informative video. I’ve already incorporated some of your tips into my wardrobe. I also whittled down my closet to more of a capsule wardrobe.
It's not really a tweak when you throw away your clothes for better ones. I thought it meant slightly altering or getting some tailoring but on the same clothes.
Continuous Self-Improvement It isn’t at all apparent that she bought new clothes. The clothes in the video don’t look new. She just got other pieces she already has out of her closet to show better ways to put them together.
Margot Robinson yes, I understand that these are items she already owned. But what does she do with the "before" items? If she does not repurpose them, then it's not really tweaking. So if I want to apply these in my life, then the items that are wrong or badly fitted should be thrown away?
Some of these ARE the same pieces, coupled with different ones. So I think the answer maybe is "some of them"? (Don't throw them away, donate them - someone else will be able to use them.)
I just found you tonight. Brand new sub. You are elegant, adorable, kind, helpful, and interesting. Oh, and worthy of an ASMR channel! 😄 I'll be watching! 👋😊💜
Audrey - Your vids rock! I took your advice and changed the way that I dress and wear my clothes. I have gotten so many compliments. Thank you for another great video.
I would love to hear your advice on a range of body types. I’m already 5’10”. I don’t need any more lengthening or slimming. I wonder which parts of your advice would work for me and which wouldn’t. I already have a pretty good idea of what works. But I could always learn more.
Your advice is excellent, but what I loved most of all about your video is the kind and calm approach you use! Your voice is so pleasant and you do not use harsh, brash criticism. Can't wait to watch more of your videos!
