Thank you very much for another great video! I loved it. Can I ask you where can I find a good and silk white button down shirt? Which brand I can look for those? Thank you!
So with your everyday essentials, do you only have two pair of jeans, one dark and one mid wash? Two white shirts, one cotton structured and one billowy? The reason I ask is I am on a minimal journey and curious if those items you mentioned you actually have more of or just a cpl of each.
A very helpful video. Thank you. I live in a climate with 4 very distinct seasons and one of my essentials is a classic black jacket for spring and autumn and a winter coat also black. I also have heirloom jewelry which I wear occasionally and always get compliments on.
I just wanna bulit it, since I'm a college student. Somehow my personal style seems to be like 'lecturer-like style' uGh. But anyways I love your style and... can you show us all of your outfit?
Dear Audrey, I enjoy your videos so much! No yelling, soothing relaxing voice, classy speech and GREAT contents! This is the best wadrobe classification I have seen so far. Cheers!
I agree completely, Audrey actually goes to trouble of classifying, analyzing and teaching instead of just throwing stuff at you and acting like a know it all.
My wardrobe is just a bunch of accent pieces that dont blend together. Thank you for pointing that out! I really need to work on that all year around basics.
a yellow paper crown I wear men’s Hanes v-neck t-shirts (the ones sold in a three pack and considered undershirts). I took a couple from my man since they’re too small on him now. If you’re looking for a more “drapey” material, then try David Archy Men’s Micro Modal & Bamboo Rayon & Supima Cotton Soft Comfy V-Neck. I have not personally tried them (yet), but my man loves them. They are so soft and have just the right amount of weight to them. Also, I’m pale skinned and I’ve found that a light grey bra is nearly invisible under white. I found this out when looking for new undershirts for my man. Some men’s blog mentioned that if you can’t find nude/skin tone (or don’t want to) then a light grey is the next best thing to wear under white dress shirts (which are notoriously thin). I found Victoria’s Secret T-Shirt Bras in Flint Grey is perfect. The color is the right shade to disappear under white and the material is smooth so the shirts don’t cling. Good luck finding what works for you!
Sara Zeitz thanks a lot for the advice!! I’m going to start looking in the men section, that’s true, they often have thicker and less transparent fabric, although I’m worried about the neckline. And thanks for the gray bra advice! I don’t own but I’ll probably try it to see if it works for my skintone!!
Loved your essentials. Some of these are my essentials (jeans, t-shirts, knit shawls because I am a knitter) and some I am looking to add (classic jewelry, white shirt). Your channel has really been helping me to develop my personal style. You give great tips and have a very calming demeanor. I truly enjoy your videos❤️
Since I am significantly older than you, during the winter, I find a good black turtleneck is essential. They go under everything and also keep you warm in the cold weather we are having. Thank you for the lovely videos you present-- I so enjoy them ;-)
can't believe my accent piece is my coffee mug (yeah you will see it whenever you see me, and people always ask me where I got it or say it's such a cool mug lol
You're one of the few fashion and lifestyle youtubers that I can watch anymore; I find so many of them are so pompous, arrogant and pretentious (and, oddly enough, orange like an oompa loompa...but perhaps that's their cameras not liking their tanner?) and cover it badly with an extremely fake "sweet" persona. Your down to earth, easy-going personality is such a pleasant breath of fresh air. You seem yourself, not someone playing a part, if that makes sense. When you give opinions on minimalism, as well, I find you so non-judgemental and easy to relate to, that I've been slowly going down that road now, myself. I never feel like I'm being preached to or talked down to. The only complaint I have is I'm going through your videos and won't have as many to watch now. 😂
washington1884 so well put. There’s something about Audrey that is so soothing and genuine, and she makes me feel like she’s my stylish friend, not a RU-vidr. Keep it up Audrey!
Try Justine Leconte - she is great too. These two - Audrey and Justine are the only ones I watch. Very sensible ladies...... from a 59yo Aussie from Nth Queensland- Australia.
I love that you emphasize an individualized wardrobe. In the last several years I have learned not to try to conform to what everyone “needs” in their wardrobe but rather what I need in my own unique wardrobe and helps me feel most like me.
I am just beginning to cultivate my own style. I'm at the beginning of this journey to reinvent how I approach all of this. I love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing all of your insights.
I think I like this idea of categories. It's less pressure than trying to fully capsule-ize your closet but still helps you refine your style and clear out clutter so you can buy less. Great video!!
The problem for me is that I like all of these things and because I am older now I do seem to have rather a lot of silk scarves, jewelry, handbag and so on. It certainly is not a capsule wardrobe any more. I think that when you are my age you will think twice. If you want your capsule wardrobe then you will need to get rid of some of the lovely items that you have collected. How do you choose what stays and what goes ? The best items are the one's that I have had the longest. Linda xx
Looking forward to your video of scarves. I have a lot scarves because i love buying them but i dont know how to wear them since i live in a tropical country. Thank you.
Love your insight and your style! So glad I found your channel. I’ve tried and I want to be confident in silk scarfs but I just can’t get it out of my head that I look like an airline stewardess👩✈️ I also want to love a white button down shirt but I feel like I look like a waitress. Lol. I have found that I really enjoy a collarless linen shirt however and your last video really resonated with me. I realized that when I decided I wanted a more classic wardrobe I bought what I thought I should and putting it all together I felt like I was wearing a costume. Slowly I’m learning and cultivating quality, classic pieces that are more me. Thank you for your style insights, couldnt have gotten wear I am now without it
If you think that you look like an air stewardess then try a much larger scarf tired very loosely or just wrapped round and not tied. It will get you started on the way to loving scarves. Linda xx
For the shirt, maybe try something more loose (like the one that she wears) and don't use it with a pencil skirt. I don't like how I look with slim shirt too but I love loose fit shirt
Hi I was born and raise in Ladson South Carolina and work downtown Charleston off of Broad Street for a law firm. I hope that you are enjoying Charleston!
Can you comment or make a video addressing how to find or deal with white shirts that are made of fabric so thin as to se SEE THROUGH. I love white shirts but hate showing undergarments through them. Thanks!
Like Kat Wolf mentioned, a good foundational undergarment is key. I have some “bra top” camisoles in white and a color close to my skin tone. I also almost only buy bras that are black or nude (my nude) and in a smooth fabric. This way, even if the shirt is a little sheer, or of a delicate fabric, my undergarments aren’t seen. White always stands out under white fabrics, so I also only wear nude underwear under my white jeans and lighter colored skirts. I recently bought a bra and a bra-camisole from a company called TruBody that smooths everything and comes in lots of colors so you can try to find something that’s close to your skin tone. I plan on wearing the bra cami under cashmere and wool sweaters during the deep freeze winters we get here.
I recently found your channel and I love it, you are adorable and your videos are so informative and helpful. It's really joy watching you. My essentials would be jeans definitely, blazers (I have them in a lot of colors, shapes etc) and shirts, same as with balzers i have them in a lot of colors. Oh and hats, I just love them, the only thing that makes me happy about winter are my hats :) My style is pretty colorful and it's like you said when people see me they will say oh ofc you would wear that:)
For me it's a light blue shirt, i have several in different shades, collars, materials, but light blue really makes my blue eyes shine and it flatters my skin tone.
Hi audrey, love your video, aleays classy and chic. I always copy your essentials and add to my wardrobe whatever is missing. Now i dont have the dilema of what to wear. 😳You are what classy and elegance means. 💝
Audrey: do you wash your silk blouses or dry clean them? The Dry Clean Only tag that accompanies so many silks keeps me from purchasing them. I LOATHE dry cleaning.
My SLO Life I love Dawn for so many things, including for washing dry cleanables. I figure that if they use Dawn to clean up little birds after oil spills, it should be safe for silk and wool.
You might want to try Dryell; it’s a home dry cleaning kit you can use to dry clean your own clothes yourself using your dryer. I use it often and it saves me money on professional dry cleaning.
i am skirt person, so of course, skirts are staples(mainly midi or long!). also moto jackets, pumps, jewelery and perfume!!! all essentials! can't wait for the scarf videos!have a great day!
I recently discovered your channel and I’m having such a fun time learning from you! My #1 wardrobe essential is black jeans. I love keeping 3-4 on hand in varying degrees of dark for more formal to faded for more casual. Also I notice you don’t really mention cardigans in your videos but cardigans are a staple for me to transition outfits from work to after work, varying temperatures, etc. Thank you for the consistently thoughtful content and I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Audrey! Extremely new to your channel. Discovered you just an hour ago and I Have never left any comment on any RU-vid channels but at the end of the video, when you asked to leave a comment down below, starting to type this was my natural reflex. Oh! I have watched a lot of fashion influencers but nobody got me like you do. You make it so simple and make me want to build all these capsule wardrobe and wardrobe essentials for myself. Have never been so inspired in my whole life. You make me want to reflect upon my personal style and taste and pinpoint where exactly I have been going wrong this whole time. A very heartfelt thanks to you, Audrey. The way you speak, the way you explain, the way you create your content is simply brilliant. YOU INSPIRE ME. THANKYOU! :)
Hi Audrey! Would you include how you store and care for your silk scarves when you aren’t wearing them too? Mine always has a fold or two in it when I take it out to wear. Would love to know your secrets to keeping them wear-ready!
I love your channel - you are delightful! I have learned so much about putting together a classic style wardrobe. I look forward to your videos each week!
My favorite piece is my denim jacket! It’s a medium wash and what makes it so special is the interior front pockets...like men’s jackets! I especially love wearing it while traveling...great for keeping phone, earbuds etc close at hand!
I like your approach to fashion. I don’t feel the need to conform to feel stylish. Rather keeping it simple, clean and modern. Currently reviewing my wardrobe and deciding what really works, looks nice, feels nice and is comfortable! Thanks!
Came across your video today, I just love the way you talk, how you organized the content, etc. I am curious what you do professionally? I hope it is not a question that is too personal, I feel I learn more from just listening to how you talk. :-)
After viewing this video, it has given some really great ideas, related to essentials in a wardrobe. I could have saved myself a lot of money had I seen this video first, oh well, live and learn. You have a great way with your videos and I think a lot of You Tube presenters should take a look also and learn how to present a top class presentation. I can see how less is truly more. Keep up the great videos.
I love all of your videos, your taste is faultless. I just have a hard time trying to look stylish due to my body shape (large bust, broad shoulders , small hips). Any chance you could work on some videos about how to dress different body shapes? Love from London ♡
Hi Audrey, I love how you have reframed how you think about wardrobe essentials. This makes so much sense! Love your essentials. I have so many similar ones to you. Not wearing silk right now because of the baby. That might not happen for a few years :) Sending love, Jennifer xx
Dear Audrey! I've been following your videos now for quite a long time and really enjoy your "new style" of filming... sitting on your sofa and inserting some clippings while you talk. My compliments! As always your video about wardrobe-essentials is very comprehensive and a good inspiration to build my own wardrobe more thoughtfully. Thank you! I have a question though: How do you store your wardrobe? Do you put seasonal items away when it is too cold or too hot, etc? Have you any tipps on storing shoes? P.S. my favorite statement accessories are earrings! I love my collection of colorful, special pieces that I've picked during my travels here in Europe. They insert some color and interest in my everyday outfits and remind me of special places I visited...
Hello Audrey! I know other people have left the same comment on many of your videos, but the volume is too low. I put off watching your videos until I can use headphones or connect to speakers because I can't hear you well...and I don't want to miss a thing!
Thanks Nina but I don't have to use ear buds for any other channel. I shouldn't have to here. I see 6 people agree with me. Her voice is so low, calm and beautiful but low.
This time of year is a great time to purge closets and jewelry. I recently cleared out 3/4 of my jewelry, either donating or selling higher end pieces. If I don’t wear it, I don’t want it. What a satisfying feeling.
Audrey, thank you, as always for your great tips. I'm a huge fan of the white shirt and think it's so classic a look. Here in UK, the fashion writers seem to be in agreement that cream is the new white and will be big this year. I love the coffee and cream look and disagree with those who say it's too bland! My staple colours are the above, plus navy and black, with pastels in summer. I'm back to Spain in a few weeks for my holiday so it will be mainly white with some lemon or lilac, pale blue etc and delicate jewellery. To keep cool in the sun while sightseeing is the key!
For warm complexions, cream or ivory is a good alternative to pure white. I don't look well in real white (it's too harsh for me), but the softer shades of ivory and cream really accent my light olive complexion.
Agree, as a red head, warm skin tone, autumn palette girl, cream or ivory IS my white, just as brown is my black. I can get away with navy blue as a basic also, especially if I wear it with cream or camel colours but black, white and grey just make me look ill. You have to go with what works for your colourings.
As a coffee drinker, white shirts don’t work for me lol! I love scarves too but as very big busted I feel they give me a plump pigeon look, any ideas how to counteract that!?
Nice video! I think my essentials are great pair of straight leg jeans, lots of plain t shirts, and blazers at my age. It's what I feel most comfortable in lately.
You are so pleasant to look at & hear that sometimes I am only smiling at your smile n forget to hear what you say... I have to then see the video all over again ❣️
This is such a great way to look at essentials, it’s quite liberating! My year round essentials are dark wash ankle jeans, striped 3/4 length t-shirts, lightweight blazers, ballet flats, and vintage Dooney & Bourke crossbody & satchel bags (I fell in love with them in high school and have worn them with essentially every outfit for the last decade-they are truly part of my personal style!). I love your videos. Thanks for inspiring me to realize and cultivate my own personal style 💕 xo Jomarie
Audrey, you are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us. I have a different way of thinking about this that has evolved, in part, from watching you! I love cashmere and how it feels, so I have several sweaters in different colors (grey, black, lime green, pink) that I wear with pants when it is cold. In the winter I'd rather have one great pair of black cashmere PJs than several other items for wearing at home. Because I am very short waisted, I like classic dresses with a solid or pattern through the torso but only when it is hot outside. Thus, my winter essentials (sweater and pants) and my summer essentials (dresses) are very different. I have a few gold pieces of jewelry (ring, watch and earrings) that I wear all year. I have several beautiful silk scarves that I'd love to get more wear out of but that seems to be a function of having the right place to wear them. I look forward to your video on scarves in hopes of learning more ways to wear them. In the Spring and Summer it is challenging because the silk feels to hot and in the winter I don't want to get them wet in the rain and snow. Despite loving the look of classic, buttoned up shirts, I do not like how they look on me because I am so short waisted - if you have tips on how to do that, I'd love to know the secret, because I never feel right in these traditional white shirts. Thank you again for sharing your style, thinking and learning with all of us!
Great question! I’d love to know how Audrey started her journey. Specifically, was she a slave to fashion while living in New York and then came to the conclusion that that wasn’t her? Did she start focusing more on her fashion choices when she moved and transitioned careers? Would love to get some insight! Her videos have really changed the way that I think about my wardrobe and accessories!
I’ve been building up my scarf collection - silk scarves in particular. Would you be able to talk about the care of them as well as the best storage method? I’ve tried a few but haven’t found the perfect system yet. I also hate ironing. Thanks.
You’re so sweet and fun to watch, you should do lifestyle videos! I would love to hear you’re point of view on food, beauty, self care, etc. Thanks for you’re generosity, you make me think about my wardrobe in a much more structured way :)
Hi Audrey, thanks so much for making this video! You are so gorgeous, and this was just the kind of advice I was hunting. Big smiles from a fellow scarf nerd in Australia! X
I love the way that you have broken down your wardrobe into categories - this makes so much sense!! also, have you done a review on the shop the curated coat? I am considering buying this (let’s ignore the fact I don’t need it) as a slightly more classic alternative to the Mute by JL one I have. Would be great to hear your thoughts on it as I’ve seen so many people wearing it lately! x
Travel wardrobe essentials: scarf for style and also to keep warm on cold flights, comfortable but stylish walking shoes that are appropriate for a meeting as well as walking from one gate to the next, travel coat that can be squeezed into tight places such as a down parka or a layering piece such as a jacket or blazer, trendy compression socks that look like dress socks that are meant to help with circulation during flights two hours or longer
Brilliantly said and categorized :) for me, my accent essentials have to be an awesome pair of shoes and a handbag, with them on I feel great even if wearing a potato sack ;)
Dear, I have binge watched your videos all afternoon. I know I’m nowhere close to seeing everything you have posted but I would like to make a request. I am 5’2”, short like you, 70 years old and fast becoming colorless. As my hair grays and develops white streaks around the face, I become more and more bland. I was blond, now my hair that’s still gray is darker then before. Gray hair doesn’t color well either, so I’m stuck. My weight is about 150 I have large breast, 38c, and typical aging posture. Rounded shoulders and larger upper body. I know I’m not alone in this situation. We are the largest section of the population and we’re not being served. Many channels advertise clothes for the over 40 crowd, but what about the 70 and over? Help! The basic rules you give will work for everyone, with the possible exception of some color changes. I think in my case some pastels on top. Also, we don’t work, so we need soft easy fitting at home wear that doesn’t look like pajamas in case someone drops in. I could use advice in almost every category. Thanks for reading my comment!
I am not a white shirt person. Don't get me wrong I LOVE how it looks, but I always manage to stain my whites :-( My casual country SAHM lifestyle just doesn't mix well with white clothing.
I would love to upgrade my rain jacket for a trench coat, too. Sweaters are definitely a big part of my wardrobe, as well. Thanks for this video, really enjoyed it.
Hi Audrey, Thank you for redoing this video. Can we get an updated blazer video? My interest sprouts from investing in some for work. On a daily, I am jeans and t-shirt. This investment piece would be great to wear for work purposes and would dress up my jeans and tshirt look. You invest in pieces instead of persuading you subscribers to purchase on sponsored videos. Thank you. I have been on ebay and have not found anything for my petite frame. Maybe discussing measurements would be beneficial as well. Thank you again from Downey, Ca.
My essentials are Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren button down shirts. Oxfords or spread collar depending on the occasion. I mentioned the designer because the cut is an essential part of what makes these one of my essentials. Also, right now riding boots in black, brown and saddle color. The ones I like are very equestrian in style. I also go for equestrian style belts and handbags. Also an essential are denim jeans of course as well as slim pants in black and a light khaki color. Scarves in wool& silk blends or cashmere. Ralph Lauren Collection makes my favorite in a large size all cashmere that are marvelous and in many colors. My favorite two are medium camel and a lighter khaki. Mostly my essentials are anything made by Ralph Lauren Collection -my favorite designer in the whole world. Long and well may you live Ralph Lauren!!!
I would like to buy a good quality black dress and black trousers. I own many of both but was thinking of crepe as a fabric? Would crepe be too dressy for a capsule item, or should I go with a polyester/spandex that could be worn anywhere?
Hey Audrey love your videos. Can u plan an episode on how to introduce bras to preteens and which ones are good. It will be a big help. ❤️ Thank you and keep making the wonderful videos.
I'm definitely goin to creating a capsule wardrobe. Watching from Philippines. I have this attitude when buying things that I make sure I can use them multiple times like hitting two birds in one stone. I love earth or neutral colors. I love simple & elegant designs.
I love wearing cardigans. I have short ones, hip length, and thigh length cardigans. I need to go through them and donate some as I have so many different colors. Trying to minimize my wardrobe since I'm now retired.
I’m looking forward to trying a white shirt. I’ve always loved the idea, but I have two small children. 😬 Are there some fabrics that stay clean better or are easier to clean than others? I am starting a new job where the dress goes from a uniform to business casual so I’ll need to build out that part of my wardrobe!
Thank you again! I am binge watching as I do minor shoe repair and polish my boots. Can you do a video on clothing an d shoe repair? Also, when to get a garment cleaned? Sorry to say, but many people are wearing soiled clothing, thinking that this is an ok thing to do, unless one is going out on a date or special occasion. Americans really need to embrace cleanliness.
your voice have gotten so soft which nice except that the microphone can't seem to pick it up? please get a more sensitive microphone? i like your voice as it is. very soothing. :)
Hi Audrey, I hope you're doing well I don't usually comment on videos and this is my first time seeing u and smth about you is soo pleasable and make me feel comfortable listening to u, perhaps it will be a good idea for u to do a podcast I'm sure a lot of ppl will like it and feel excited to listen to it I really appreciate the efforts you put in your channel hope you all the best.
