If you have a new Yamaha TTR50 and you want to maintain it without trouble, then this video is for you. It's really only helpful if you're brand new to dirt biking.
In the video I mentioned the filter and how it was getting soaked with oil. TO BE CLEAR, you DO need oil on the filter, just it shouldn't be so much that it's pouring out the back. The oil helps keep dirt out of the engine.

Don’t waste your time taking the battery out when it dies. Put er in second gear with key and run switch on and lean it onto the kickstand and rotate the back tire quickly while its in the air and BOOM stationary bump start. Works great as I have a little guy that forgets to turn key off as well.

Good video! But let me add that if it is going to sit for any period of time, to drain the little bit of fuel left in the carbonator. To do that, turn the fuel cock to off a few minutes before you are done riding. Once the bike had shut off from not having any fuel, turn the Phillips head screw that is below the fuel cock to open and drain the fuel. Leaving old fuel in can and will clog the carb. Now, don't forget to tighten the screw. Hope this helps.

I got sick of having to clean oil out of the airbox every time the bike got tipped over. The crankcase vent is connected to the airbox, and this is what causes it to fill. I used about 2' of fuel line to re-route the crankcase vent to the front of the engine where the other drain tubes hang. Make sure you also plug the hole on the airbox that you disconnected the crankcase vent tubing from. Since doing that, the oil problem has been solved. Oil doesn't even drain out. Some will spill into the tubing, and then when you pick the bike up to flows right back into the crankcase.

I wish you could make a vid on how to do this. Don’t know any of the words you are using but definitely want to fix the issue

@@chrismatthews1762 I happened to be I the garage and took a couple of pics but cant attach. Look behind the oil fill cap/dipstick and you'll see a 3-4" bent black hose connecting to the airbox. Remove it and plug the hole on the airbox where it attaches. Then take some fuel hose and run a length from the crankcase and have it come out under the front of the motor where the other drain tubes are routed. If you have the parts and know what you're up to it'll take 5 minutes and save hours of trouble and oil soaked air filters!

@@derek3107 the epa. Contaminated blow by gasses are routed to the airbox instead of atmosphere. My 'fix' is just undoing that and doing it the 'old way'

The little flathead screw on the bottom of the where the throttle cable goes into the carburetor. Trace the cables down to the carburetor and you’ll see it.

When you took the seat off I notice something fell out and you did it. There are 2 metal bushings that The boats that hold the seat on go through and they fall out easily I am missing one as we speak it was easily fixed with a washer but I believe this is something that happens often...... Good Video but it's not a Honda lol
@cvinci1

I used a touch of epoxy to bond those bushings to the plastic because I got tired of dropping them every time I removed the seat.

If the battery is OK it should charge up after riding it a while. I have to replace mine like every year on this bike though.

The kill switch should kill all power coming from the battery... I completely removed the ignition from my sons bike and the battery seems fine... just make sure the switch is off when you put the bike away... that way you kids can simply kill the bike when they fall and flip the switch when they are ready to start it.. (also good safety practice to use the kill switch specially after a fall) 100% agree with the tires... the stock tires are junk so spend the money in new tires (the are super cheap and your kids will wipe out a lot less) With the air filter, I removed the air box and installed an after market UNI filter ($16) and the bike runs better, this bikes are known to come too rich from factory therefore the carb needs more air. Let me know if you have questions on the bike and I might be able to help, I’m a semi experienced rider and my son rides a 50 just like yours and I have been able to solve some of the growing pins with the bike and riding in general... Ride safe 👍

Even with the kill switch activated, the carb heater (thats what those 2 electrical connections on the carb are) is still drawing voltage and will drain the battery. A lot of people disconnect the ground leg from the carb in the summer time when the heater isn't needed to prevent this. Running stabilized ethanol free gas like vp c9 or sunoco ultima will make these things pretty easy to start, but a lot of people will just up the pilot jet to a #15 (12.5 stock) for more reliable starts on pump gas
