The general idea is it is better to experience a strong base line with stock parts before switching things up. It can skew your perception of performance gains and/or fine adjustments as they pertain to RC racing.
One of the best diff oil change instructions I've seen yet and I'm glad traxxas made their diffs maintenance friendly with all the groves and notches inside so it's easier for a casual hobbyist to put everything back in the right place. Not all RC brand does that.
This is a very helpful video. I'm new to RC and have been looking for maintenance how-to videos and this is the most helpful that I've seen for differential maintenance.
Thank you a TON!!! Amazing instructions on this how to. I'm going to be doing this on my Slash 4x4 as I have NEVER changed my diff fluid and lost all of it in the front diff. Thumbs up!
I just bought my first rc car and haven't received it yet. Rustler 4x4. I don't know shit about cars in general, let alone rc cars. I've been going through RU-vid and emailing rc stores trying to get info on maintenance and this video is by far the best one I've seen. So much detail and exact directions. I've been terrified about having to do any maintenance, but this video made me feel 100% better! Thank you so much.
just want to thank you for the how to video. you've helped me with the 2wd slash a couple of years ago. And now watching this one because I got myself a slash 4x4 ultimate. so I will be watching this on the side doing maintenance. thanks m8
Thank you so much for this video. Very well done! I appreciated the links to skip ahead. I decided to do this job because of grease leaking out of the rear diff (Stampede). With your help, this was much easier than I expected. Now you have inspired my to get into the front end as well. Again, Thanks!!!
Great video. I just bought my first rc (Traxxas Stampede) and was wondering about basic maintenance when I found this video. I've only had mine for two weeks so it will Ben a while before I need to perform this maintenance but this video will definitely be my guide!
total excellence… Best tutorial on RU-vid… An absolute masterpiece and I thank you so much for being out here. Take care I will follow your instructions. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this video. Took me 2 hours to clean and change the diff fluid in my used 4x4 slash vxl (I cleaned every plastic piece as well while I was busy). It works perfectly 👍.
Thanks for the reply on the greases.. Your video's are excellent and informative. You're definitely an asset to the RC world ! Traxxas, if your'e reading this, you should sort this man out a free car here and there, without his clear and precise video's i for starters wouldn't have delved into this hobby as much ! (Buying my fourth traxxas car and only got into this at Christmas lol)
Julian UK I totally agree. I just bought a Traxxas UDR and also have a TRX4...but I’m relatively new to the hobby. I am a believer in maintenance and want to do a good job, but the Traxxas manuals, although good in most respects, are kinda lacking in the maintenance area in regards to beginners. In general terms it says to do this and do that, but nowhere are there detailed “how-to” steps or videos. I have been watching hundreds of RU-vid videos trying to figure out how to change Diff fluid....and this video is the first to walk me through it. The only comment I would make is that perhaps you should point out that Diff fluid is generally very thick...almost like honey. I had no idea....
This is an exemplary video. You have the gift of teaching, as demonstrated by the unusually thorough and clear instructions. There are so many long-winded how-to videos out there that it was refreshing how respectful you were of our TIME. Even though the video was more than twice as long as other videos on the same topic, it SEEMED shorter. You didn't waste our time by trying to be entertaining, sharing irrelevant anecdotes, or showing unnecessary steps (e.g. removing screws) like many other RU-vidrs. I've been nervous about taking apart the front diff on my Slash 4x4, but now I'm not, thanks to you.
@@darkeclipticheartdumb question since I'm doing this 9 years later. Why the heavier diff fluid in the front diff over the rear? I'm looking for an even transfer of power on a stock setup if possible
Thanks bro, Ended up being the seized clutch bearing! Thanks again bro I had my diff apart trying to get to clutch and driveline... Super easy tactic! :)
Very clear and precise instructions. I just got back into the hobby. I only ran nitro as a kid. I have several RC cars now. This video helps much. Not a noob, but not experienced with electric as much.
Just followed your video while working on my Stampede 4x4 VXL. Diffs were exactly the same, no oil in the front and yucky looking stuff in the rear. Thanks for your really informative and clear videos!
Thank you for the videos it help me a lot I just bought a telluride tracks and the gears where sounding ruff thanks for this video I hope a hobby store is open on sunday .
AWESOME TUTORIAL!!! I've watched tons of RU-vid videos but I've never left a comment......Yet I feel obligated to write a comment about your tutorials. Simply to give you the credit you deserve! BEST TUTORIAL I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!!! Very professional, clearly spoken, detailed information & instructions, great video editing of non-essential information! I'm definitely a new subscriber and fan! Thanks for doing a GREAT JOB! keep it up! AWESOME. ..................
Awsome video man!...was in the air abt the front diff and u jus gave me all the confidence I could ever need!!...thanks so much for sharing, time to break this thing down and gett'r dun!!
So many RU-vid video's have people yapping away wasting time. I don't mind a funny aside but I'm not looking for a lot of unrelated comments. Your stuff is perfect. Terrific job.
Great video. My 9 y/o son and I are just entering the world of RC and we started with the Stampede 4x4 vxl a couple months ago. Your videos have been incredibly helpful as I learn the ins and outs of the truck and help him maintain, repair and upgrade it along the way.
The more I see these multi diff/transmission/drivetrain videos, the more I realize that I know virtually nothing about them! My truck isn’t here but I’m sure I could find the right video. This was great though, I was able to learn things you should know regardless of your car. Thanks!
For my stampede, i use marine grease in the case, but in the rear differential, i recently put 20 million weight fluid in. Its like putty. Basically turned my rear into a pretty tight limited slip. Its starting to loosen up just a bit, but its still pretty tight. Its great in the dirt, And will do a full on wheelie on one wheel.
The xo-1 differentials have an I-brace and they have metal retainers that slide on the cup. I put those with aluminum cups in my slash when I rebuilt the diffs recently.
Thanks for all the detailed videos bro! I just cleaned and refilled my diffs on my Slash 4x4 but after I reassembled it I got a clicking/grinding sound when applying throttle. Sounds like it's coming from the diffs. Yet I don't hear or get that when I turn my axles or center drive shaft by hand.
