Never cleaned my mtb in 4 years, lubed the chain with some random spray i found at work or at home. Was about to clean it for the first time. Then it got stolen
@@tracklocrossyeg well he lubes the chain and then shifts through the gears. I’d assume you know if your gears are working the ride before. They don’t just magically break.
@@tracklocrossyegyou literally aren't understanding. The chain already got lubed. As soon as you start to ride, the chain is going to work itself through the gears.
dont know about others but i cant be @arsed to clean my bike when iv just got home, must be getting lazy in my old age lol just noticed i replied to a year old post, christ i really am getting old lol
I just swapped to a chain wax. Hot melt, full immersion. It's so nice! I just ordered some suspension cleaner. I'm breathing new life into a 2014 Trek Remedy 7.
Remove your seat when you lock your bike that way thieves will think twice before they rob your bike. Get a quick release seat clamp make a scrape mark on the seat pipe so you immdiatly know what height setting carry a small rope so when you remove your seat tie it to the back of your back pack. And especially if you have anti theft skewers on both wheels and hex lox nuts on the stem and other important parts. Your very protected then. also use 2 locks
Nicely done and nice bike. I love Rock N Roll chain lube. Don’t forget to check suspension sag/pressure, brakes work/wear, bolts are tight, and inspect the frame.
I think this is pretty much illusional... If there is huge dirt on the chain: fine, go for it. But most of the wear results from the dirt inside the chain pieces and between those and the toothes of the chain rings. So simply rubbing with a towel and degreaser on it over the chain mostly only wipes superficial dirt..
For sure, you need a chain cleaning device (or a bottle) and chemicals. I do this 1-2x a year. Maybe after a really messy race. But not before every ride.
@@fpeter01 also depends on wet vs dry lube, if you use dry you should reaplie every time it gets wet. But yea even for me who will race up to 10x a year and rides at least once a week, meybe 4 times a year with a deep clean
I have just subscribed to your channel and I'm very impressed. I have been meaning to clean my chain thinking it would take me ages, now I know it won't take as long. Keep up the great videos 😁
These bleeders are pointless to push before a ride bro. It's for long descends where pressure can build up with rising oil temp. Before a ride there's no pressure at all.
@@seymourtompkins just before make sure it dried completely. it has silicon grease but leave very thin layer, it's not enough for hard working mechanisms
Pro mechanic here, don’t forget to degrease and clean your chain before applying new lubricant. Lube on a chain with old lube will not get where it needs to be and will attract dirt.
One thing is don’t cycle through the gears cuz if there is dirt on them it will get on the chain and it with make the more likely to get dirt stuck on to them
This is not what you should be doing BEFORE every ride, rather after every ride, waiting to clean off the dirt untill your next ride means you just allow these substances to corrode everything while it's sitting there, especially for the chain. if water got on the chain and it washed away the lube and you wait untill he next ride to clean and relube the chain might have already started rusting. The fork, shock and dropper don't really matter much when you clean them as much but it's still better to do it after a ride rather than before. Exept tire pressure, that should be done before
Thanks I was gifted a Mongoose Caan Elite 2008 I barely found out what kinda bike it was but I'm 6 foot tall and it's a medium now I wanna see how a large size bike feels. I used to go to dirt roads as kid in a huffy when I was innocent and had no worry. Good old days
@@YoshiLover2012 bet lost. The problem is that doing that BEFORE EVERY RIDE means you have issues... it has nothing to do with having a clean bike or not.
And unless you ride in the PNW or in parts of Europe where it's always raining and wet, use dry formula chain lube. It keeps your drivetrain way cleaner than wet or any of the "both" formulas. Way easier to maintain.
You should not cycle through the gears right after lubing your chain. You’ll have oil all over your mechs and this will make more dirt stick to your drivetrain. And that causes more wear…
@David read whats on the backside of the bottle. Usually you have to leave it for 2-3h then you can go for a ride or just leave it for the next time. You want the chain lubed not the whole bike...
Outstanding. Totally agree. I ride solo. At night in the Santa Monica Mountains . On a gravel bike. I go over my bike before every ride. Do not want to deal with a break down on something that could be prevented by up keep on the bike.
