Oh hey. Let's talk 'work' makeup. It can be SO boring. Same old neutrals, you know? I wanna show you how you can incorporate color into your makeup while keeping it 'work appropriate'. This is great for school too, or if you just happen to be a beginner and feel a little intimidated by color. 💜

@belerinah😂couldn't agree more as you should! I too love a mesmerizing multi or duochrome myself. Not necessary in bright colors but still makes it seem like you spend some time adding multiple eyeshadow shades instead of just 1 or 2. For some reason an all matte eyeshadow look doesn't suit me and makes me feel and look crusty and dusty. A metallic or a fine glitter or at least somewhat of a sheen or satin finish makes me more alive looking. Wish I could pull off an all matte because it does look very chique/90's but I guess it doesn't work for everyone....

I LOVE the 'work-appropriate or what' conversation. Every workplace is different and every team inside the workplace is different. Thank you for kicking this off for us, the ideas you shared are great and I can confirm they work. Forest greens, olive greens, peaches, burgundies, and deep purples all work for me and look nearly neutral on me. Heck, they sometimes look better than neutrals because of how they play with my undertones. I'm I'm going to add my own recommendation, the ace beuate ambiance palette has all those colors :)

I love colourful eye makeup at work! I wanted to add some tips that Alex actually touched on but did not spell out. Easiest colours to incorporate are jewel or earthy tones, because by definition they have a natural quality. Also, you can match to your clothes/jewellery like Alex did to her earring, because it'll look cohesive. Lastly, depending on your work, you might be surprised at how much you can get away with, some people truly don't care.

I am working as a childminder.. I love makeup and colour. Very often I am putting full face of makeup with bright eye. Green, orange, blue, sparkly, matt - whatever tickle my pickle that day and my children love it! They always checking in the morning what colour is on my eyes. So thankfully there is no such think as work appropriate makeup in my setting. Still, it was a pleasure to listen to you as always. Love from London x

This is a much needed video topic. I work in an extremely conservative legal environment. I love makeup and I wear more makeup than anyone else in my office. Most are into the no makeup look and/or literally wear none. I am almost 58, light skin tone, and have a blonde pixie just like you. I do put a shimmer shade on my lid in the middle. It’s just my preference. I’ve actually gone so far as to mention to others when an opportunity arose that makeup to me is art and it’s who I am. Now, having said that, I am not wearing crazy makeup. No multichromes. In any other setting it would be perfectly normal but in my workplace it is hitting the boundaries. 🤷‍♀️

Your ideas are encouraging. In my mid-sixties I discovered that using burgundy or deep purple eyeliner made my hazel eyes stand out more, even with glasses on. Now that I'm in my seventies, I'm getting more adventurous with colors like bronze with some shimmer. Your points about color choices are really helpful. ❤

As far as colored mascaras go… I have a mid to fair olive skin tone and often wear dark purple mascara. My more fair complexioned coworker does also. You can barely even notice it on me. It’s akin to me wearing a dark brown mascara, but with a slight pop of color instead. It’s a tad more noticeable and very beautiful against my coworker’s fair skin and her light hair. It isn’t overly obvious since it’s of similar tone to the darker hues generally associated with eyelash color. I’ve also worn cobalt blue mascara and eyeliner. You only noticed it when getting up close to me and I received a lot of compliments on it! All neutral shadows (if any).

I just wanted to say that purples and pinks on me can easily look “neutral” it’s just about not overly applying (if you’re cool toned) and keeping it sheer. I do often wear pink and purple for work on my eyes but I just keep it light on the black liner etc ❤ love this video! thank you for the tips!! it helps that we can use our collections that we have and not feel like we have to go out and buy new neutral eyeshadows

I feel this is HIGHLY dependent on where you work, but still good info to have for other situations where you want to "be you," but tone it down. Meeting your s.o.'s family, etcetera . I also feel that people who have medium to fully deep skin tones could totally go with a full opacity, dainty wing, for instance, in one of the jewl-tone multichromes from any of the Lightwork palettes! Or, using one of the multichrome gel liners from Kalaidos or Sugar Drizzle in the waterline. As a walking water bottle, if I still went to a workplace, I'd rock my white/gray-based multichromes in this way to work. Even with the aforementioned Kalaidos gel liners, some of the colours have lighter bases. I can scribble on a whole-assed, huge wing with Tourmaline, and still have it be subtle. Ish. Depending on what's going on everywhere else. I remember a time when we had to hide our tattoos and put clear retainers in our visible, non-ear-lobe piercings. We couldn't have "unnatural" hair colour, and counterintuitively, anyone with 4C hair couldn't wear natural/protective styles. ( "It looked *unprofessional*" 🤬). This wasn't even that long ago. What you can and can't do with your appearance at work depends on your career, sadly. Aside from the shotcallers, or, those who have the luxury of not being able to give a fok, whether by virtue of a cushy fall-back, or like myself, spicy neural wiring.

I’ve only worked one office job, and it was a quality assurance specialist and I wore all sorts of crazy dramatic makeup. I only ever got compliments, even when regional management would drop in for a visit. I just think that any makeup can be work appropriate, but of course I know not everyone shares that same sentiment
@isabelab6851

It is very interesting how office appropriate make has shifted over the years. What is office appropriate depends so much on where, as well as industry. NY and DC more conservative while Miami definitely not. So even in conservative fields color was more appropriate. Also cultural influences matter. Latin culture has always been about full makeup and color was embraced, especially in lips. I have worked in finance field for almost 40 years. When I started it was mostly men so we had to be deliberate about the in clothes, hair and makeup. This is where I started my love with luxury makeup. At that time I wore a full face of Chanel with the occasional other brands. I wore a full face of makeup with strong lips. Then the 90s came and I embraced the smoky look with red lips. I also wore suits but in strong colors and thus coordinated makeup accordingly. I became friends with the makeup artists for the brands and learned techniques from them. Once my career was established I did not care much but I wore neutrals, especially cool toned or greys, my Tom Ford era. That said I loved navy liner and experimented with navy shadows. Over the last ten years, and when I started watching RU-vid and especially about indie makeup, then color came into my life big time! I have very hooded eyes…I stared by using bold color on the lid, which you can only see when I blink. My younger colleagues were surprised and in love with my look. I think that color is appropriate just about anywhere if applied strategically and in a cohesive look. This is exactly what you demonstrated! Thank you for a great video!

One way I enjoy wearing some snazzy, high impact or duochrome shades is to use them as a smudged liner UNDER my eye look. I smudge the fun product immediately after I set my eye base with a skin match shadow & then follow with one of my "basic" shadow combos (contour & deepen outer corner to shape/mask hooded lids with appropriate mattes, emphasize lid a bit, blend thoroughly). There's still pizzazz, but applying & blending my "basic" eye over top of an exotic shade/finish automagically makes it appropriate for almost any setting 😉

To be fair bright inner corner + bright liner also gets looks but it's still less of a Statement. Those two with a neutral shimmer lid and boom done. Hey Beautiful Alex, you are such a great teacher in makeup/ eyeshadow application and colors. I’m still trying to get the cools/ warms down 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈 what can I say, Iam a natural blonde. lol. Great tips and guidance in Work appropriate eyeshadows. You are so adorably cute with your clicker.

I wear whatever I feel like to work. Sometimes just bronzer in the crease, sometimes red and sparkling duo chromes. I think that things have changed a lot.

I love some pine green or burgundy mascara. On my brown lashes, it remains discreet yet make my hazel eyes pop. Muted or deep colours are indeed a good way to have a touch of colour in your makeup at work. I might be wrong but I wonder how people with very bright and light caracteristics (such as bright spring/bright winter) would look their best while toning down the pigments (would it be enough "brightness" to flatter them?).

There was definitely a time in my life when I was more conservative with my makeup for work, but now I own the business and nobody gets to tell me what to wear. I love glitter and I will glitter or shimmer or duochrome whenver I want. In fact, with my very hooded eyes, I love wearing a shimmer or glitter on my actual lid because when I look straight ahead, you can only see the barest hint of light or sparkle, which actually opens and brightens my eyes. So... yeah... at 53, I've a devoted glitter gal.

Thank you, this was really interesting and helpful. Though i don't mind wearing "stronger" makeup in the office, i appreciate the tipps and will definitely try it myself.😊😊

I’m 66 and worry sometimes that I’m overdoing my make up when I go into the office. I love make up but want to look good and not like Norma Desmond ready for my close up. This video was really helpful for me personally. Thanks.
