Thank you so much! I just tried the rice recipe using your ratio of 1cup to 1-1/4 to1/2 cup of water on 2 min. slow release using my new instant pot duo ultimate lid, it turned out perfect! also, has anyone have any idea of where to get a cook book/videos on the new Instant Pot Duo Ultimate Lid pressure cooker? I know I could probably just follow the the recipes for the old Instant Pot Duo air,fryer,crisper/pressure cooker, but thought it would be nice to have something for the new Ultimate Lid. Thank you
Thank you for explaining the Rice button. I just got an Instant Pot at Goodwill and was a little confused. My previous pressure cooker had a Rice button that you could press multiple times to adjust the cooking time (5-8-10 minutes); I thought the Instant Pot might not be working properly since its Rice button wasn’t adjusting the time. I feel better now. lol
Like your channel - it’s the main source for my newly acquired Instant Pot Duo. Thank you. Basmati rice needs to be rinsed at least 3 times, before cooking.
Omg you have no idea how many rices I have totally ruined! I love black Italy rice or brown rice and I always over do it with water or not cook it long enough. I really like your blog, I just came across the “26 instant pot dos and don’ts” and now I just kept going with more of your videos. Good job 😊
Hi Lisa I just got your cook book and just made your easy teriyaki thighs and rice recipe and had some trouble and was wondering if you could make please make a video on how to make it. I would really appreciate it :-) ❤️
Thanks a lot for this video! I had bookmarked all your rice recipes for the Instant Pot. I always refer to them for cooking times, etc. I wish you would add these info in the description.
Hi thank you ! You are great. I was hoping if you would help me with Forbidden Rice. I’ve tried your 1:1/ 1/4 ratio, I’ve tried sauté with some onions then pressure cooking but I can’t accomplish it. I keep adding more minutes and it is still a little too grainy for my family. Could you please help?
I'd like to know how to cook rice mixes, specifically Goya's rice and beans in the IP. I contacted the company and they said use the rice preset, but that just burned it. I couldn't find any answers when I searched online. I just got a lot of rice and beans recipes.
I always rinse rice until the water is clear. Rice contains arsenic that is pulled from the soil it is grown in and that is something I don't want to ingest. I certainly don't want my family to ingest arsenic either Basmati rice absorbs less arsenic than Jasmin or long-grain white rice. Brown rice and wild rice contain the most arsenic because the hull of the rice is not removed. In the US rice grown in California has less arsenic but rice grown in Louisiana and Texas has the most. Rice grown in Vietnam and India has much less arsenic.
I do a 1:1 ratio rice and water for 5 mins HP, but lately I noticed it still had the tiniest uncooked bite to it. If you do more than one cup, is it still 1.25 cups water per each cup of rice?

what is natural pressure release, just live the instant there for 10 min ? o tap on cancel and then wait for 10 min ? 🤔
Even when the package doesn’t say to rinse, I find that if I do it anyway it turns out better. Would sushi rice be the same timing as the regular white rice?
I didn’t rinse parboiled rice when my dad came to stay with me and he was totally grossed out. I now always rinse all my rice regardless of what type it is.
I tried brown basmati rice..I cooked for 3 minutes with 11/4 cup water. After 15 minutes I removed lid .. Results were rice that was dry and tasted like it was not cooked long enough ???? What did I do wrong ????
I noticed in one of your earlier rice videos you came under for in the comments for not rinsing your rice which was completely unfair. Generally, rice sold here in the United States does NOT need to be washed. In fact some rice specifically has instructions not to rinse due to the rice being fortified to restore nutrients by essentially dusting the rice kernels with a powder that rinsing will remove. I say generally because it depends on what type of rice and how the rice is packaged. For instance, rice that is sold in large quantities in burlap bags is exposed to air and possibly tiny insects. That rice should be rinsed and that type of rice storage method is a reason that it tends to be rinsed in households around the world where they purchase large quantities of rice and store it for lengthy periods. In that particular case and in those areas of the world the rice is literally dirty and requires cleaning. There is a great video on RU-vid about this topic by Adam Ragusea called "Is washing rice really still necessary?" He actually has commentary by a Professor of Carbohydrate Chemistry Ya-Jane Wang who explains that it's largely unnecessary but it tends to be a personal choice or habit not a hygienic one. I won't spoil his video but people shouldn't feel bad about not rinsing.
Love your videos! My wife and I like Ben's Long Grain & Wild Rice and Zataran's type rice mixes, do you have any suggestions on cooking those in the instant pot?
I bought this instant pot and also bought the glass lid. I cooked rice using the glass lid and and use the rice button. I burned the bottom of the rice 😳 😳 Does this mean I cannot use the glass lid when cooking rice?
That is supposed to happen when you're cooking a pot of rice. Instructions and recipes are just guidelines that every cook should tweak to find what works best for their cooking style and their equipment.
I can’t believe that people get out the instant pot to cook something as simple as rice! I wash a cup of rice and place in saucepan with 2 cups of hot water from the tap plus a pinch of salt. I bring this to the boil on high heat then turn the gas down to low and cook for ten minutes without stirring or lifting a tight fitting lid. . Fluff with fork and serve.
Use an index card or 3"x5" sticky note. List, in columns, Type, Rice/Water Ratio, and Time. Add a note at the bottom " 10 minute natural release for all types. Now you have your own timetable.
I have a similar rice rinse bowl. I use it with quinoa and sesame seeds as well as rice. It works great for all. Mine is the Oxo Good Grips brand. I suspect most of the brands are made to be useable with various rice and grains. It was a really good purchase at a very reasonable price.
