I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THE LEVER PROBLEM: You will need 1 repeater, 2 sticky pistons, 1 observer, some redstone dust, 1 *button* (not lever) 1) Replace the lever with a repeater set to 1 tick facing towards the block the lever used to be on (you'll need to place a block underneath where the lever used to be to place the repeater but that's fine) 2) Diagonally to the right behind the repeater, place a redstone block (it shouldn't be powering anything when you place it) 3) To the right of the redstone block, place a sticky piston so that, if it were to be extended, it would push the redstone block behind the repeater, powering it. 4) 3 blocks to the right of the sticky piston, place another sticky piston facing the same direction as the first (there should be two empty blocks between the pistons) 5) Place an observer on the sticky side of this piston with the red spot facing the back of the first piston 6) Now you can wire the sticky piston connected to the observer to a *button* (not a lever) anywhere you want. for someone who has been playing the game since beta and have never figured out redstone. i just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to extend the lever and gave up and just made a hidden lever lol. tutorial was amazing and easy to follow just rlly frustrated about lever placement.
Works just fine as it is, however the lever extention needs to be added, tried several times to connect both top and bottom redstone wires where it gets activated by the lever, broke the contraption, rebuilt it several times, broke it again, rebuilt it again and again. After a whole day of my life has passed, I ended up destroying the build and moved on to searching for another video tutorial. Brother I'm still thankful for this video, didn't work the way I wanted to but I did learn more about redstone. Keep up the good work
hey i build it. it works great. the big problem i got is the lever to activte the stairs. its completly useless in the position. i want to have a lever on top of the floor and one below the stairs so i can easily open and close it. i tried multiple solutions but it allways breaks . any help?
For those of you looking to get an external input, the lever powers redstone underneath the block its placed on, rewire some down there to power it and you should be good
I've done very little with restone, but I managed to get it working, hopefully it'll work for you. Don't ask me for any tips as I've got no earthly idea how this works

But for the next tutorial I’ll probably make a 3x3 railway door. Which is basically a 3x3 piston door with a rail in the center. So it should be pretty cool! So the issue with moving the lever to the surface is that the one he put on the block activates the red stone on top of the block and the repeater on the bottom, to locate the lever anywhere else you have the add an extra line of red stone to make the lever activate the repeater and top redstone without being on the block itself. This is insanely hard to explain but I tried
Would you mind telling me how you went about getting the lever to the surface? i've tried everything and if i expand the redstone to move the lever, it breaks the entire contraption (displaces blocks). I know it's a noob question but im pretty new to redstone.
You'll need to hook redstone up to where the lever is. On the block where the leaver is shown you'll need a redstone connection to run to the redstone above the block and below. I used slabs to connect the top bit then brang the bottom bit up to hook it into one line.
thanks for the amazing redstone machine but im really confused about how to expand the lever every time i do it it just breaks it (displaces block) can you please show how to do it?
tried this in 19.4 java and it still works. the only problem im having is moving the switch is there a way i can move it without ruining the mechanism?
If you run a repeater into the block that the lever is supposed to be on then the contraption should work normally. If you run a redstone line into the block, then the redstone dust underneath does not get powered. I hope this helps :)
Great tutorial! I rewatched it at least 7 times lol cuz my idiotic self breaks the fricking thing every time I try to wire it up with and other input but that's on me. Edit: frick it's 8 times now. I accidentally right clicked water all over it

Are you on Bedrock Edition(pocket edition, Xbox, PlayStation etc.) This design sadly does not work with bedrock edition. Go ahead and search up a Minecraft bedrock 1 wide hidden staircase tutorial, so sorry that this didn’t work... if you are not on bedrock, then please feel free to comment again so I can get more details about your problem. I am not sure what I have done wrong, i followed all the steps but instead of replacing the top 2 stairs with dirt it just moves them to the correct location. can someone help?
Hey man I’ve been trying to connect a t flip flop to this but been having difficulty I read one of the other comments and couldn’t replicate it any help
This works well but for some reason when the steps are done two of the floor blocks are as well and when the stairs are up those two blocks are so I can’t even get down
Love the tutorial but could you also include an t flipflop instead of an leaver it would make it more usable for people how are completly new to redstone
@@MrCube6 Point is... you pitch this as a practical use tutorial. Using a lever like that is not practical use. At least stitch in what people need at the power source to make it practical.

At 10:05 The piston you put the observer on doesn't work but I don't get y? (Nvm figured it out you just put abit of redstone between the Redstone torch and the repeater) Also if anyone else can help me out with the issue at 11:10-11:30 nothing happens with the pistons and the repeater when I decide to flip the switch

So sorry that you are having trouble D: yea this does work for 1.17+ but it will not work for bedrock edition, which is mobile, Xbox, and PlayStation. This will only work for Java Edition, which is computer. If you are on Java Edition then please explain what your problem is so that I can try to figure out what is happening... thanks so much for watching and im sorry that this isn't working for you...
So you have to place a repeater going into the lever block and have redstone dust going to wherever your new lever is. Also this build only works on Java edition, bedrock edition, which is mobile, console and windows 10 edition, will not be able to function as bedrock redstone is very different than Java.
Alright so did you power the T Flip-Flop or the contraption itself. You if powered the T Flip-Flop and this happened then your T Flip- Flop is wrong in which case what the tutorial I linked above. If you are directly powering the redstone contraption with a lever and this is happening, then I have absolutely no idea what is wrong. 😁 Make sure you are 1. On Java edition, 2. On 1.16 and above, 3. Have all observers faced the right way, those can be a bit tricky, 4. Follow the tutorials 100%. As of right now I don’t really know what is happening, since it’s all just breaking. But those are the best tips I have. Observer orientation is a big mess up for a lot of people, also the T Flip-Flop is another common error people make. So sorry it’s not working, if you want a different tutorial then I would highly recommend searching this in google: Minecraft 1 wide hidden staircase tutorial. Sorry again hope this helps.
how do i make a lever go to the surface and also to close it when we have gone down the stairs and want to close it so nobody finds it walst we are down there
