Nice video . Thanks a bunch. Built one this week using a $16 buck set of drawer slides . Great bearings in them. Beats spending $200 any day.About 70 bucks in all. Thanks again and keep the great videos coming. 04 Deuce on my end.

This is the best homemade arrow cutter I have seen. One thing that may help on the slide block could be to cut out a small section to allow the block to sit freely on the measuring tape. This is one that I will be building. Thanks for the great video.

Hi I am from the UK and I watched your vidio and found it very informative and have now made one for myself from your plans and it works great I have connected a vac pipe so as to draw away any cutting particles and to keep the blade clear of debris I am now waiting for delivery of my new arrows to arrive so I can cut them and build them up ready to shoot, keep the vids coming.

Great video! Not sure if you already figured this out, but if you drill out the hole for your arrow a little more inside the 1x1 block, and nail an old piece of bowstring to where it is stretched tightly across the hole. your nock will clip onto the string and the rest of the nock will go inside the hole. that way you wont lose any nocks during your video production, lol

Nice solution, i will build one but i will change the sliding block to make it flat and with a pin/nail i will nock the arrow, also i will change the sliding block wih a screw to lock the block to prevent it from sliding so i can cut several arrows exaclty on the same size. and maybe i will add a small block on the slide under the arrow to keep it flat.

Since you pull the nocks out before cutting, you should fill the hole in the block with a peg that fits inside of your shaft so the shaft butts up flat against your block. Then you'll have an exact length measurement every time. Cool rig :)

@FortuneCookie45LC
@FortuneCookie45LC 10 лет назад
1yankeecowboy That machine was the one that followed RCBS's in-line progressive, and it is a good one…later on, if you decide to make it a fully automatic machine - you can. Or just stay with it the way it is…should serve you well…And since you are used to running your progressive MEC, this should be an easy merge for you. Best to a..
@yankeecowboy

FortuneCookie45LC Yeah I was so torn on the auto index but I have the mec 8567 because I wanted to control the turret and inn case of a snag in the process it would be easier to remedy. My draw length is 29". I use a re-curve. I notice the yardstick is out to the left not that it'll matter. I like the draw-slide. I think I'll build one. the only thing is the Chop saw is £50 in the UK
@lonny7866
@lonny7866 8 лет назад
I made one from your idea. The problem I see using the draw slide is that there is way to much play in the bearings and the actual slide. The slide has both up and down play as well as side to side. For what I am going to use it for, it will be ok. Target arrows. Thanks for the idea.
@yankeecowboy
@yankeecowboy 8 лет назад
I don't have any issues with mine. even if you had some play make your cut slow so you don't move it around.
@anthonyhitchings1051

Check axial play in the saw, it may need to seat itself to stop wandering in and out as mine did

It would be nice to have a way to clamp it in place at the measurements so you can just set it and load arrows I like it a lot thank you for the video.
@daveengstrom9250
@daveengstrom9250 4 года назад
There is really no reason to use a drawer slide to hold the block. Just take a router and make a slot in the mounting board then use a bolt and wingnut to lock it where you want. Then cut a whole dozen if you want.
@philipsturtivant9385
@philipsturtivant9385 4 года назад
@caleb homer - I'm gonna say you could do that with an extension to the rear of the block that holds the nock end of the shaft (right angle repair plate or similar ironmongery? You could maybe use a wider block block of timber, and drill a vertical hole thru it, on the centre line) and through that you'd mount a vertical clamping screw - maybe something like you'd see arranged in threes to hold your Christmas tree upright in its base. - and you'd screw that down against the mounting board carrying the whole rig. That oughtta do it, I guess.
@nyhunterguy803
@nyhunterguy803 9 лет назад
I built one identical to it the only thing I did different is the small block that you have screwed to the drawer slide I glued in a small piece of wood on the yard stick side to take up the gap and I use a small clamp to lock it down on the measurement that I want that way I can cut a doz. arrows and not have to check it all the time, Thanks for the idea and my saw is kick ass oh and this replaced a $250.00 apple saw I had and I like this better

@halfstep67
@halfstep67 8 лет назад
Good design with the slide. Would be better if you didn't have to remove the nocks and if you could spin the arrow as you cut it. Spinning the arrows as you cut will insure a square cut. The little deburring stone is not to square the arrow, it is to remove any rough edges that may be left from the saw.
@yankeecowboy
@yankeecowboy 8 лет назад
you can leave the knock in if you want but I don't seeing knock sizes vary, as to the stone yes it takes burr off and I'm sure my cut is square but I really don't think it makes much difference at 350fps.

@arrowvsobject

I would use a 3 inch abrasive cut off wheel. 1/16th thickness. If it doesn't fit on the saw, use it in a drill on some scrap metal to wear it down. The saw has a 2 inch blade with teeth and it may not splinter carbon at first when it's sharp but I bet it will when it dulls. An abrasion wheel is the same sharpness all the way through as the diameter of it wears down as you use it.

Another thing...you have gone to all the trouble to make things true and square on the saw etc...then you free hand the most important thing and free hand the chamfer tool with arrow? doesn't make sense. You are better off making a jig for that too. On that note don't breathe in the carbon dust ...use a vacuum while cutting to suck up the dust. Isn't that saw blade for wood? try using a reinforced silicon carbide blade.
