-Pre washed cotton fabric of desired size. Be sure to cut with pinking shears before beeswax. Cutting after will dull the shears immensely. She uses 8 & 11 in. squares -1/2 cup grated beeswax -1 tbsp jojoba oil -3 tbsp pine rosin I wrote out the ingredients to make it easier for anyone who like me and needs a visual to fully follow along or to screenshot for later :) Such a great video!

I was thinking the same thing about the pinking shears. I have also seen tutorials where they are sewing bags AFTER they have been treated with ingredients. This will mess up your sewing machine quickly. Does anyone have any experience in sewing the bag and then treating the bags?

As someone that sews I would reccomend using the pinking shears before adding the wax. It can dull them quicker and they are hard to sharpen

So I found that some of my wraps, after very gentle washing/contact with water...the coating will start to crumble a bit. Any thoughts? Is this a sign that my proportions are off - too much wax? They're very soft & thin, but I've mostly been doing them by feel, vs measurements of the ingredients...
@dianesmigelski5804

I’m following to find out the answer to this question as well.
@invisigoth510
@invisigoth510 Год назад
@@amandalutes4900 it’s possible you have some proportions off with your ingredients if you’re not measuring them. I measure them, melt them all together, then brush the melted mixture onto the fabric so that the fabric is saturated If I had to guess I’d say either you aren’t using enough jojoba oil or you’re not saturating the fabric with your wax mixture The oil makes the wraps more pliable so they don’t crack & break up easily. So if they are breaking up too soon then it could mean you don’t have enough oil in your mix but you said they were thin as well & that could mean that you didn’t saturate the fabric enough & a thin layer of wax will break sooner. When you go to renew your wraps, go ahead & prepare the wax mixture the way you normally would & just make sure you saturate the fabric. If they still break up after a few uses then you know the proportions are off & you’ll need to measure out the proportions next time you make your mix

For anybody wanting a cheaper alternative I adjusted the recipe a bit for myself to make in bulk and it seems to work perfectly fine: 1 cup beeswax 2.5 Tbs of pine resin 1 spoonful of coconut oil This worked out great for me, and instead of ironing them I just stuck them in the oven at 200 degrees F for a few minutes each on parchment paper and the melted wax that formed on the tray helped to soak through each cloth. Thanks for the recipe!

Thank you for your videos, I'm excited to start on my beeswax wraps (been wanting to make them for a while but really hesitant). I'm a beekeeper and have a ton of wax that I've been saving. I've seen wrapping with a string and button to help keep the wrap stay together or just for a pretty finish, it may be too much for me to do but I'm thinking about adding. I'm heading to the fabric store today!

This is a great video. Well done! The one thing I would add is don't do this on any surface that you value. Although it smells wonderful, it melts right through the freezer paper and can ruin the covering of your ironing board, etc. I see you use a towel. I have lots of old towels so will try that when I use your method described here. Thank you so much for sharing!

My experience: I cut the fabric with the pinking shears, then washed on gentle with used fluff dry. One cotton fabric did fine, the other including a muslin all frayed on the egdes so it's hard to tell I even pinked them. So I ironed and trimmed all of them to move forward. I measured the 1/2 cup of beeswax and 1tblsp of oil in a mason jar. The resin I had to crunch up because it was in larger chunks. Some peices were small like the beeswax pellets and some turned to powder. No matter, I measured out the 3 tblsps and put in the mason jar in a pan of water just like the video. The resin would not melt fully like the wax and combine well. It stayed more on the hard side like carmel. I turned the heat up and stirred hard but it stayed on the bottom. I also tried long slow heat with negative results. So I hoped there was enough mixed with the wax and put it on the frayed fabric. Seems ok. I guess time will tell. Any suggestions are welcome.

So how do you clean up after all this? I just tried this out and unfortunately everything has resin stuck to it... I tried using oil but it has not worked for me!

Would something like soy wax work too? Or does it have to be beeswax? Can the resin be left out or is it an essential ingredient? Thanks so much!

The resin makes them stickier. I've never tried soy wax :)

This was very fun… until I had to clean up afterwards. I have tried so many things, but I can’t get the wax off of anything.

When I bought the pine resin it said to use PPE when using it. Did you do that? Mask and gloves? Thanks!

I didn't, but I'd definitely recommend following the package instructions!

Can these be used to freeze things? Like breakfast burritos and such? I know they'll be in a freezer safe zip bag, but to keep them separated.

Hi! Thank you for sharing this, I have a question and hopefully you can help me understand. About 4 months ago I did a batch of beeswax wraps with all the ingredients but this week I found one I haven't used recently and the beeswax was gone :o it only had like spots of residue. Do you know why does this happen?
@thediymommy
@thediymommy 3 года назад
I think it might just wear out over time, you can add more wax and iron again :)

Silly question, but why not just cut the fabric with the pinking shears instead of doing it at the end? Just trying to avoid gumming up my pinking shears. Excited to try this. I have a lot of fabric remnants left over from mask making. Great stocking stuffer ideas for my friends and family.
@thediymommy
@thediymommy 3 года назад
You absolutely could. I just found that when I did it first, it was a bit harder to get the edges sealed because of the empty space created from the shears :)

Does the pine tar have a scent or taste? I’d be worried my food would take on an essence of pine lol

HI, I tried this recipe a few days ago, but the wraps end up being very sticky and waxy to the touch and leaving sticky residue on my fingers after using them. Is there a way to make the wraps I made less sticky? Would the stickiness and waxy residue be gone after a couple of washes? Thank you.

How many fabrics did you use this on? This recipe makes 2 large wraps. Too much on the fabric will be very waxy ... This recipe is suppose to make it sticky, that's the point. If you want it less sticky, use less tree resin. Or pop the entire fabric in the oven and let the wax drip as you are airing it out.

Same thing happened to me! The recipe is way to sticky! Made an absolute mess of my kitchen and anything I touched for an hour afterwards. What a waste of fabric and other materials and my time!!
