Love these, I have some fabric cut and will be working on some tomorrow. Hope they turn out a good as yours. I'm new to quilting, and love decorating my home with my handmade things. I've made a few quilted hot plate table trivets. They come in handy, and get used a lot. I just finished making a square one to go in the center of our square table inside of the placemats so we don't have to do buffet style for breakfast on Christmas. It was fun and turned out really pretty. Not quite brave enough to take on a big blanket yet. But working on it. And yes we can never have enough hot plates. I can make them for all seasons. Haha enough to keep me busy.

By pinning the "windows" would this not be a perfect time to add the bottom fabric and thereby quilting the hot pad. Then all that's left would be binding. 😊
@linrag64
@linrag64 2 года назад
Love this! May I ask if I have the correct idea to add a hanging loop at the corner. I think I can combine the other potholder method you've shown (approx 5" long 2.25" wide folded over and stitched along each side). In the other pot holders (round and square) the loop is attached prior to adding the binding, but as this has no binding, I'm thinking this: it'll be on one of the corners. Attach it to the front side (right side) of the potholder with pointed loop facing in towards center, then attach backing as you've shown here. When turned right side out, the loop should be on the outside now, right? If this is way off base, can you help us with how to attach a hanging loop, please? Thanks so much for all your tutorials!
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 года назад
Hi Linda! Your method makes complete sense! You may want to try a "mock up" using some paper or scraps first, but this method should totally work to include a hanging tab. Thanks for watching!! ✨ -Michelle

I tried this but don’t like the way the center turned out. Raw edges tried to peek out when I rolled the edges back to stitch. I didn’t want to cover with a button (dishes would not sit flat!) so I just added a quick appliqué over that center point!

Not sure if you did this step right, but it sounds like when you folded the triangles you laid them upright instead of face down? You won't see any raw edge if you lay the triangle with the folded edges facing down... I noticed this when she was placing hers on top of the square...this might be your problem...I just made one and it came out perfect...

I used a layer of batting and one of Insul- Bright. The hot pad is wanting to pull up in the middle which is keeping it from lying flat. What did I do to make that happen? Seems like it's something to do with the thickness of the outside seam.
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 года назад
That may happen because we are sewing curves and on the bias, but you may be able to press the middle into submission. 💗 -Michelle

I just used one layer of Insul-Bright, and it came out beautiful...not too thick, and not too thin to me... I don't think it needs that much thickness, and would feel too bulky in my opinion. When I did the inside quilting part it was the perfect thickness...

how would i go about adding a loop for hanging?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 года назад
Great question! You would create your loop first, and one idea would be to sandwich it in between the hot pad and backing fabric prior to sewing the backing on. Hope that makes sense! -Michelle

If you use insulbrite do you just do one layer of it?
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 года назад
That's a great question! Some people use one layer and others prefer two. The choice is up to you! 💖 -Michelle

I used one layer of Insul-Bright, and it came out perfect! Not too thick and not too thin to me... I don't think it needs to be that thick when your using Insul-Bright

Would to know what stitch number length and width as I get touched using same stitches
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 2 года назад
We did a straight stitch (width is zero) with a length of 2.5. Hope that helps! 💖 -Michelle

Ive seen this machine foot on other videos. What is it called ? Thank you ❤

We use the 97 D Patchwork foot for the Bernina. Since we have the dual feed on our machine engaged, it mimics a walking foot. Hope this helps! -Michelle

To give a more finished edge and to make sure it is actually closed we hand sew them closed and then you can't find the place where they are closed. Over all we think it's a more finished project.

Why do you sew in the dark? I have bad eyes to see.

Hi Di- Jen doesn't sew in the dark, but it may appear that way due to lighting and the camera angle so that viewers can see the stitching. hope this makes sense! -Michelle
