I have been looking forward to this project! I am not a musician but my family has some thanks to my wife insistence that they take music classes. My son likes the ukulele so I thought this would be a good gift for him and would allow me to make this project! The company that makes this kit is C.B.Gitty

Very nice Chris. I built a cigar box guitar from scratch about a year ago for a buddy at work. Lots of fun to experiment with.

I don't know how I missed this build, but I'm glad I found it. Nicely done, Chris! Cigar box guitars and ukes are a lot of fun to build and not overly difficult to play. I'm no musician either, but even I can make musical sounding noises with them. They're a lot of fun to sit and noodle with, and perfect for back porch picking and strumming.

I am no expert nor am I a musician, but it looked nice! The cigar box had some sound come from it, so I guess it works too. Great kit build.

Now that's one cool build for your son! Yes we (I) would have liked to hear how it plays from someone that knows how. Preferably your son. He could have made some background music for this video and that would have been a surprise for us. Oh well, maybe another time.

Very cool cigar box Uke... I've been wanting to build one... What scale did you go with??? Looks like it might be 15" from nut to saddle, making it a concert scale... Hope the kid enjoyed it...

The website say the fretboard is 13.7" (soprano). This guy says the instructions suggest cutting the fretboard (seems strange) making it a "mini", maybe?

Would I be able to place the pickup piece close enough to the bridge if I were to use this method and electrify it? I know that the piezo needs to be as close as possible to the bridge and I'm not sure if an extra piece of wood would affect it.

Great looking build, nice! One thing just makes me scratch my head: At no point you were paying attention to get the right scale length, which is the most crucial part during the build of an instrument, so there's no way this pretty thing can be in tune ...?! Or did I miss something?

It is a kit... with instructions... IT very well could be that t is not in "tune" I know for sure it is not a fine instrument either! This is not a project for anything other than a rudimentary instrument ,if it would even qualify for that title. Furthermore I am not an instrument builder per say either I am just a guy with some tools. :) I built now with Bernadette who has commented in the comments below and she would agree with you that it will not be precisely in tune.

@@TheChrisPineWorkshop sorry I dont meant to critizise you in any way, I am just curious if the instruction manual contains anything about scale lenght/intonation ... if not I really wonder why they left out this part as it is crucial to get a playable instrument. I build cigar box ukes myself, and with that short scale length, you have to be super precise. If the string length is just a tiny bit off, the uke wont be playable. Anyway - nice build! cheers! :-)

no worries Pascal you did not offend me at all. I do not recall anything about that in the instructions and honestly I am not really sure what you are talking about. The pieces were all pre cut etc...

@@TheChrisPineWorkshop I mean of course I can't speak for that specific kit but in general when you see a bone nut or saddle it's made of cattle bone. Of course some companies could be selling a synthetic or something and lying about it but in general I don't think so
