How to make an Electric Cigar Box Guitar/Ukulele (step by step) 

When gluing the fretboard on use another couple of pieces of wood to brace while clamping to help keep it flat. Ideally you want to glue the fretboard on before the frets are in. Try a less acute angle on the headstock 12° is ideal. if you make the neck thinner inside the box it will allow it to reverberate more for a better acoustic sound. and finally if you are feeling like experimenting, Try using a tin can in a cigar box to make a resonator guitar :)

I've never heard a video pairing a cigarbox guitar with Cuban music. Good idea! Making soundholes might created a better acoustic sound, though it's unnecessary with a electric pickup and a good amplifier. But I think you should have placed the pickup on Elisabeth. You should have drilled Elisabeth. Drilled her several times, in fact. I mean where the name is, of course.

Wow! It's beautiful! I love the offset pickups, and the neck is sublime! How about some "f holes" or small resonators? I'm starting to build one today, but I'm going to try to do the neck angle around 15 degrees.

Such a great video showing techniques useful in any cigar box building. Is the neck a 1" x 2" piece to start with? (actual 3/4 x 1 1/2)? Wondering about enough space for the 4 strings. Thanks for making this one. Very helpful!

Excellent video! I’m going to build an electric cigar box guitar for my next project. I’m wanting to go with two pickups and a three-way selector switch...sort of telecaster style. Any tips for that? I’m probably going to go three strings instead of four, though.

I add 2 springs under a little tension along the neck to give it natural reverb.

What fret calculator did you use? Oh, and amazing build by the way. I have a perfect box in mind for mine. I brought some (not)Cubans home from South Africa in it once.

how will the fabric on the inside affect the sound? Will it rattle less is it better?

How does the sound hold up after years under tension? Is there any warping of the neck

misterously switching between 4 and 6 elements pick up, back and forth. generally the angle between the pickup and the neck is mirrorimaged of the way you did id. nice guitar and video! And a really nice mello sound.

You still need knobs. How about some dice? You could drill out the one dot (because it's already centered) and have the sixes looking at you. Just a thought.

Pretty darn good for a first time!! But, I have to say that's a pretty extreme angle for the headstock scarf joint!!! Most angles I've seen (and I cut) are around 15 degrees ... still, great build!

What are the measurements of each piece of wood?

Another question? I noticed when you were measuring for your frets it appeared you were measuring from the top end of the fret board. Shouldn't the scale length be measured from the middle of the bolt (where the string makes contact on the top of the bolt)? You instrument sounds great however you did it!

Except you measured the frets from the edge of the nut, and not the highest point. Maybe next time, just build a solid body guitar the same size as the inside of the box? Insert the solid body into the box. Done.
