How to make a cutting board: End grain vs face grain

My wife requested a new chopping board and I went overboard as I'm prone to do, making both end grain and face grain boards.
I was amazed at how much I learned from making simple chopping boards, there's a lot to learn from choosing the right hardness of wood, the right food safe finish, what glue to use and so much more.

At 16:15 "…it takes forever for the oil to dry." No wonder. When applied liberally or flooded, the oil does take a very long time to dry. If applied very sparingly then it will dry sooner. Additional coats can then be applied. The Wood Whisper did make a point of this.

For the first set of glue-up, did you glue the face grain or edge grain of the wood strips? I see that most people would glue up face grain (edge grain facing up), then cut to strips and do final glue-up. I always wonder why not just glue up edge grain first? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I glued the edge grain first but I'm not sure if it matters

Nice video. I made some Face Grain cutting boards and after 8-10 washes they were all warped/curved. Do you know why this happens? I was trying to sell them but I can't sell something like that.

Since this video, I’ve made a whole bunch of edge grain boards but what I do now is cut my timber into 30mm strips, flip them on their side and glue them together, this gives me a 30mm thick board and because it’s many strips, it tends to help prevent wood movement

No offense, but after seeing your wife it is little wonder why you spend so much time in the shop 😊
