Learn how to make a drop haunt for a home haunt or haunted attraction. I wanted to make this an automated drop haunt for my Graveyard set at the Bethel Pumpkin House. An electric magnet and pneumatic cylinder automate the drop down the reveal a 3 axis skull from Haunted House Creations. They’re carved funkins with some flame bulbs that I converted to run off of batteries, Adam Savage has a tutorial you could check out!

It’s all about the hard coat which is lots of things like sand, rice, paint, spackle, etc mixed together. I was actually thinking about making a video that explain it.

I have a question, why did you use the electro magnet to hold the drop panel up? Your cylinder is double acting so if you switch the hoses on your cylinder it's normal state will be extended instead of retracted. Then to "drop" the panel you trigger the solenoid to retract the cylinder and pull the panel down.

That’s another good way to do it! The magnet was the best option for me, this was apart of an automated show that looped every 60 min and a good 20 min of that didn’t have the drop down so wanted something that wouldn’t need the air compressor. Also, the columns are made of wood and I’ve seen pneumatics slowly destroy wood sets after prolonged use, for example this drop down would drop 500+ times a night so I was worried it might start to loosen some things 😅

@@menaceproductions Thank you for the explanation! I have only used steel with my pneumatics, but I assume you are probably right about it running that much would be hard on the wood. The prop looks amazing! I am going to have to build something similar this year.
