HOW TO MAKE A FLYING CAR!!! THE CLOTHES-LINE METHOD!!!

Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we take a little slow time at the shop and use that time wisely by educating and training some of our crew. Oscar, Brad, Gavon, Kenny and I all participate in a rarely used recovery method called "the clothesline method". Watch the video and you will understand the meaning of the clothesline. This is a very unique and surprisingly dangerous maneuver. There is an enormous amount of stress being placed on the main line that lifts the car as well as stress placed on the booms of the trucks. Even though this may look simple, it's actually quite complex when you start doing all the math that goes along with the geometry and physics in play here. With that said, we still make a car fly!!!! LOL. At least it looks that way. At one point in the video, you can see where we had some observers watching us while we trained. One is never too old to learn!!! And the person who THINKS they know it all...well... I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Congratulations, you have used one of many configurations of high-lead logging. You could also accomplish this with just the rotator if you have a large tree, piece of heavy equipment, etc. to take the place of the Western Star (tail hold). It could be done with either two or three winches. For harder pulls, using a second truck on the D-rings on the rear of the rotator unit (not the truck but the boom) can be used to keep the truck from floating. The further the car is below the tip of the boom and tail hold the better.

For a camp ground I went to as a teenager. Month before the place opened for the season, we did prep work for a control burn of the grass field for the tents... Weekend of the burn we had a refresher on the pick-up truck/pumper. With that for hose handling we had a bucket filled with concrete and we played "spray a war" where we used the hose lines to try and shoot the bucket over to the other side... The next day we did the burn.. LOL Anyways seeing them do that reminded me of the hose refresher... LOL... We met a month early as we only got together on weekends so Saturday was the 1 day we all where there a week.

Watching this, as I noticed your boots at 11:40 and I realized just how lucky you are. No wrapping yourself up in a suit and tie every day to go to the office. You are your own boss so you never have to worry about a layoff. You get to dress in jeans, a comfortable shirt and well worn boots. You have a loving family, employees that enjoy their jobs and have a decent boss. Sure, you have to work in some crappy conditions, but on the other hand you live in a beautiful part of this great country and in nice weather get to enjoy the fresh air while working. God Bless you Ron! Like Waylon sang "Got my first Guitar when I was 14, Now I'm over 30 and still wearing jeans" Deep in my 70's and I am too! LOL

18:00 it is possible to use a double line by connecting two singel lines in parallel from the rotator and use another winch for guidence, but I guess the limeting factor in that case would be ancor weight of both trucks
@wroscel
@wroscel Год назад
I think you would also have to put separate blocks on each line too, to ensure they balance the load. But you would probably want to run the sling through them jointly so they see the load from the same direction at all times.

Excellent technique for the extreme application where nothing else will work. It would help if both anchors were better matched or at different heights so that everything was at a more even level and balance. As you were setting up, it became obvious what was happening with the rigging. Excellent training opportunity for all.

I saw that demostrated at a trade show once. It looks like the most impractical thing you can do with two tow trucks until we had a tank that needed to located in a spot we couldn't reach with any of our trucks. Did it once, never did it again. lol I like to watch all the training videos and demos the manufacturers put out, they come up with some really crazy techniques.

Thought about it and yes you can use a double clothesline, of sorts. On your white line, put three snatch blocks and hook the middle one to the WesternStar. Conversely, you could use two main lines with just one snatch block each between the two trucks. The rest follows the same idea as you just displayed but with two straps lifting, one to each of the remaining snatch blocks. If the vehicle being lifted was long, say about 30-57 foot, you could put the slings further apart to spread the load and lift front and back at the same time. In this case, as the snatch blocks would want to center, you would put your yellow line controllers attached to d-rings in the travelling snatch blocks with the straps for yaw control as well as controlling the sliding. Anyway, just a thought.

Ron, I enjoy your videos. This video looks like an early training video. Sure you have many suggestions. What problem I see is the lack of control when lowering the load. My humble opinion is to move the shuddle lines to the base of the trolley pulley and suspend the load by four webbing loops, such as rimslings. Then, control the load by a tag line. If you see a problem let me know the reason this will not work. I defer to your wealth of knowledge.

The good thing is it looks like fairly quick set up. Easily controlled too. For exceptionally deep holes, could you put a second snatch block on the hook of the traveler, keep the top cable tight, but at an angle, cable to the top snatch block for lateral control from the upper boom, and the lower boom run a winch to the lower snatch block and down to the load? Would lift straight up that way.

Looking at the setup, for heavier loads it would be possible to run two “clotheslines” with a snatch block on each to which to attach the sling, then lift and pull laterally as shown. Then your limiting factor would be the risk of tipping one or both trucks over…
