Pieces 13 and 14 are supposed to represent a component on the real dive helmet that directs a stream of air on the forward viewport to prevent condensation.

Hi Chris, this is awesome. I am almost finished with the helmet. I bought your pattern and it works fantastic. Even a bloody beginner as me can get it done. I use the helmet for our Rock-Show Stage performance. We are Covernaut a Rock cover band who supposed to be a "steampunk-look" expedition team with their Ship Covernaut on the seven Seas. So your Helmet was exactly what I was looking for to complete our appearance. Thanx a lot!

5:22 - Pieces 13 and 14 make up the transceiver housing, which is fitted in the correct place on this helmet. Many reproductions stick them further back but on the genuine US Navy Mk V helmets, they're mounted in the same place as on here, so massive kudos for authenticity!

@@LostWax Yeah. I'm definitely gonna build one, using your work as inspiration, along with a nice, little replica, that I got a good deal on, at a thrift shop, as reference. It's pretty accurate, and the details appear to be exact. It's made of real brass and some other metals, and is roughly, about a quarter of the size of the real thing (about the size of a large cantaloupe or a honey dew melon). It's pretty cool looking for a small scale. Now I wanna make an actual size one out of EVA. I'm glad I found your video. GREAT JOB!!

@LostWax so I've been doing some research, and on helmets of older design, like the russian 3 bolt diving helmet, it is an air diffuser. However on the U.S. mk 5 it's a pocket for the communication speaker.
