I'm the Evil Ted who makes props and costumes. I’ve worked on Star Trek Into Darkness, Walking Dead, Fifth Element and Guyver, among lots of others. I've made pretty much everything out of every material, but foam is my favorite.
I'm here to share my skills and shortcuts, and help you learn how to make foam costumes and props, too.

Thank you so much for these tutorials! My 10 year old is a "Brony", and we go to the BronyCon convention in Baltimore every year. Last year I sewed my costume, but this year I wanted something way cooler. I bought a heat gun, planning on making my costume out of EVA foam, but didn't know where to start. Your videos have been an AMAZING starting point! My Little Pony is in NO WAY "badass", but I plan on us looking great this year, due in large part to your in-depth tutorials!

If you do a LOT of Plastidip spraying, you can get the brush-on canisters (or buy it by the gallon), thin it 2 PD/ 1 naphtha and spray it through a cheap Harbor Freight HVLP electric sprayer (as long as you clean the gun with naphtha afterwards). That's what I use when making large production runs of LARP weaponry/armor. PDing with The harbor freight electric sprayrr

I used Acrylic gel medium for foam Iron Man (doesn't crack, it's cheap you can mix paint into it, but i used a brush as i didn't want to wreck my airbrush. One question though - I was thinking how cool the helmet would have looked with the base structure being the textured side and the detail being the smooth side. Is there any issue with joining the textured surface to the smooth surface?
