I'm the Evil Ted who makes props and costumes. I’ve worked on Star Trek Into Darkness, Walking Dead, Fifth Element and Guyver, among lots of others. I've made pretty much everything out of every material, but foam is my favorite.
I'm here to share my skills and shortcuts, and help you learn how to make foam costumes and props, too.

I have to thank you Ted. I have been making props and halloween costumes since I was eight. I always used cardboard and was very unskilled. I just subscribed a month ago. (I am now fourteen) And have been inspired to spend my work money into getting real materials to make real cosplay. Thank you for the lessons and the insperation to do more of what I love. Keep up the fabulous work!

I've gotta say Ted, you give the best videos on the web for DIY Costuming I have ever seen. You're informative, organized, give great tips, and from the way you sound when you talk, extremely generous. Many others may have talent equal to yours, but they all seem to lack the heart that you give into these videos. For example, in this one, you've cited all of your tools and materials in the description so any newbie can dive right in! Bravo, Sir! :D

hey ted, new subscriber and I'm loving what I'm seeing! I'm a beginner in cosplay making as well as prop making. I was very curious if you actually NEEDED to use the latex. this hasn't been as easy for me. my template marks seems to never match up and I will have one template longer than the other or the curve doesn't look like yours with just 2pieces.. not sure what I am doing wrong.
@EvilTedSmith
@EvilTedSmith 2 года назад
Hello @chrystal sexydiaetic When cutting out your foam parts make sure you labeling them Right, Left. So when gluing you know witch one you putting together. Second the registration won't naturally fall in place you have to pull and stretch the foam a bit to get them to line up. That is what pulls the pattern together. Especially when doing horn patterns.

Another great video that akays leaves me wanting to build something. Quick question: could you use this technique to make say, fitted calf armour. I hope that makes sense... What kind of glue do you use ? I've heard to use multipurpose cement, and i did use it, but my pieces aren't staying together too well. And maybe im just using it wrong. That could be a possibility.

are you using one solid piece of aluminum foil before duct taping? if multiple layers how do you keep them all from peeling apart when you duct tape and then cutting apart the pattern?

Hey Ted, I was wondering if the latex available around Halloween for appliances and skin effects would be a decent substitute for the balloon latex you used to coat the horns. And if so, could it be brushed on?
@EvilTedSmith
@EvilTedSmith 9 лет назад
+DeusDeMortis Yes, you can brush it on.

Is there any way to get the contact cement to dry faster? Waiting 15-20 minutes I sometimes forget about it and it dries up.

If you were to add this to a foam helmet, would you just contact cement them on? Or do you add anything else to make sure they won't just rip off?

Question; would turning the templates over, create an opposite effect if my horns are very "corkscrew" in style and need a mirror like effect for the two horns? I intend to try your technique, but wondered if you had in a past project as yet.
@EvilTedSmith
@EvilTedSmith 9 лет назад
JemmetGK Yes, that would work.

Evil Ted Smith Well, Alrighty then... I've been working on Darkness (on and off) for a couple years and that will help IMMENSELY for his corkscrew horns. Thank you ^_^

So the horns I am making have bumpy details on it. I am not sure what to use for the details? I have no clue what would stick on the foam. Or should I do that after sealing/priming it?
