As a 65-yr old hobbyist jewelry maker and weaver, this is not a type of jewelry-making that I plan on taking up. But I so love learning new things and your videos are fascinating to me. You explain the steps so well. I really like watching your technique. Tfs!

I loved the way you sped up the video so that it moved along well and added the commentary later at a brisk pace. Very clear presentation! My only other comment would be that such a great smith should have a #20 quick change handpiece instead of the old #30! Save another few minutes of shop time.

Well thank you. It takes a lot of work to edif my videos so they don't drag on. I basically shoot the hole video without talking so I can add a clean voice over later. I do need to get a better flex shaft set up with some better hand pieces. The quick change piece would be very nice to have. 😁👍

I have really enjoyed watching you grow in your craft 😊 You might want to consider flowing your solder onto the foundation piece. For this project it's your silver ring. You can do this quickly by stick soldering (after your first solder, pickle and rinse, reflux heat to solder melt point and touch wire solder to the outside of your ring making sure to get good coverage. Pickle, rinse, dry and use a file to smooth any bumps.) Now you can fit your decorative pieces over this (fluxing the ring and pieces first) and then heat the entire ring until the solder runs. You can do this same technique with pallions if that's what you have, it's just a bit more fiddly 😊 Have A Super Fantastic Day!

One of your videos came up among the suggested/related ones that appear on the right-hand side when watching another video. I'm subscribed to various jewelry and metal pages. I'm self-taught, or I guess RU-vid and internet taught. I believe it was the inlaid crushed turquoise band that drew me in, as I've never done anything like that and I work with turquoise a lot; it's an obsession. Really, I've watched a lot of videos and yours rank with the best in every aspect. Thanks!@@GomeowCreations

I’m a total beginner! Just finished purchasing the basic tools.. ordered some metal earlier this week 😄 Getting ready to make stacking rings! But don’t worry I’ll be in touch after that lol! However, one thing comes to mind.. how to resize a ring with a setting to make it bigger? Smaller is obvious, maybe not easy but obvious lol

Hi ! Quick question, I’m trying to make this ring and I’m using silver as the base of the ring like you but for some reason when I try to solder it the solder chips won’t melt, I don’t know why, is there any tips you can give to avoid this ?
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 3 года назад
Did you pickle your metal to make sure it's clean? That torch and solder are you using? Are you using flux?
@brig4489
@brig4489 3 года назад
@@GomeowCreations I did pickle it and the solder I’m using is the one you listed on your shop in the links you put in your description, it’s the silver chips, and yes I am using flux. I’m not sure which torch I am using since it’s one of my dads. I think I did figure out my problem though, the edges weren’t flush so there were little gaps instead of it being straight against each other, do you think this is probably why it didn’t work before ? Thank you so much for answering !
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 3 года назад
Solder will melt regardless if the metal is clean and has enough heat. Small torches have a very hard time getting all the metal upto the same temps, allowing the solder to melt.

I can't fully understand what you are saying but it will try to answer what I think you are asking 😁 When it come to a torch, I like my smiths little torch because it can do just about anything I need it too and I can change the tips to work on large or small parts.

hey can i use aluminium wire instead of silver, and if so do i need different solder or will any work
@GomeowCreations
@GomeowCreations 2 года назад
Aluminum is a very soft metal and not great for doing this. Also aluminum has a lower melting point than the solder so it will melt before the solder does.

Love this ring! I think you could easily make it into a spinner ring if you wanted to. And I wondered, do the brass and/or copper come to temperature quicker than the silver? It looks like they might. Not that it seems to be a problem, I just noticed they get red faster.
