I haven't laughed this hard in so long. The whole thing of the signature holders when she finally realized she sewed three to one side instead of two, and then the unintentional sewing of the wings where she had to undo the stitches, Oh My God, I literally had tears rolling down my neck. Can we all relate though? I'm way late to the game, but this has just become one of my favorite channels. I love her! 🤣🤣

After you have worked so hard on this, you might not want to hear the idea that popped into my head, but here goes: Take 2 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, printed or coffee dyed or whatever. Set them side by side with the 11" sides together. Overlap the 11" edges by 1/2". Glue the 2 together in that overlap area. You can see them together too if you want. You now have a single sheet sized 11" x 16 1/2". Fold in half to 8" x 11". Make a bunch of them to make your signatures. By making the signatures a 1/2" narrower, you won't have that overlap outside your cover and you won't have to trim it off. Easy Peasy. 😊

Hi, Pam love all the videos. Thank you! One tip I would offer is that with this project, an iron will be very helpful. If you fold your signature flaps in half, press them, and open them back up before you stitch them to the "spine" feather, this will give you both a stitching guide AND help them stay in place for when you attach the pages. (Think of it like training a paper fold.) Also pressing the "feather" spine away from the signature strips will help you avoid the problem of sewing the "feather" to the signature. I hope that makes sense! :) i've been sewing for 55 years, and so many times using an iron to sew things easily is the key to an easy fix. Hope that helps! :)

You brought back great memories of ninth grade home economics class! My friends and I were all in the same class ( one sewed her thumb to the apron we were making, another sewed the A-line skirt together so she couldn't wear it, we melted a double boiler to the burner..we were busy talking....) I'm sure our poor teacher was going to flunk us all but at the end of the year we had to make a meal and because both of my parents worked I did all of the cooking so I brought my mom's electric skillet to school (after the double boiler fiasco we weren't allowed near the stoves) and we had fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, tarheal green beans and biscuits I made the night before. The teacher was so impressed (or maybe shocked) that she gave all five of us a passing grade! So thanks for helping me remember a great time in my life! Now what did I do with my seam ripper?.....

I was just the opposite! My first semester in home economics was cooking. Everything my group did was a disaster! Our teacher told us she hoped we married someone rich enough to hire a cook. Lol. I redeemed myself with the sewing semester, mostly just because I was interested. 😂

Girlfriend I LOVE everything about your videos. Your creativity, your narration and silly singing, Sunny (my favorite of all), your goof ups, and your "devil may care" outlook on it all. I even love your camera shifting. I just found your channel about a week ago, and you have had me literally laughing out loud since. THIS video had me cracking up. The loss of the foot on your sewing machine and your "time out" to fix it had me in stitches. And on the whole signature holder situation where you sewed them wrong, I was yelling at the TV "No, no, you sewed three instead of two!", and then you finally realized it. Plus the dishes crashing in the background, oh man, I haven't laughed that hard in a very very long time! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate and love your process! But the fact of the matter is that what you do is beautiful and I have just started on my very first junk journal today because you've inspired me. As much as the perfectionist me got her panties in a bunch, she needed this so much because I appreciate how you don't let those things stop you and you encourage your viewers to embrace the process, mistakes and all. Thank you so much! Please don't change what you're doing. It is your gift. 🤣❤️❤️

Great video! I love watching as you create and solve what comes up. You are very encouraging. A tip for using the seam ripper - use the end with the red bit to go under your threads you are breaking and that way you don't accidently poke into your fabric with the sharp end. Good tip about where to break the thread between the fabric vs right on the stitched line of thread. I love what you create. Thank you :)

I just ran across this one, lol love it. Btw, to use the seam ripper, start at the bottom, pick out the first couple of stitches with the point, them turn the ripper tool over so the red dot is facing down. Set the blade against the stitching thread push. Pull the seam apart as you go, and keep the cutting edge pointed at the stitches. The red doted end keeps the fabric from tearing. Sometimes ur can lay the peice on its side and zip it out. If you get to a spot where the threads are too tight together go slow or pick them out a stitch at a time. Hope this helps. There's a video of doing this out here somewhere just do a search and it will come up! :)

HINT: when removing something from the sewing machine, use the hand turn to move the needle to the top of it's movement before lifting the foot and removing your project. it might help with cleaning and avoid breakage while making it easier to remove the project. it's also for safety as it makes it less likely you get stabbed by the needle - trust me, you don't want to get a finger hooked by the needle while you are trying to remove fabric...

I’ve purchased thrift store sewing machines before to “learn” on. With very little luck lol. Many many snapped threads and needles later my thrift store machines look very pretty in storage 😜. Well Santa has brought me a very shiney brand new machine that is very intimidating out of the box. 😂 Watching someone you greatly admire learn on the fly, make mistakes and work through them with grace and humour Makes learning new things so much less intimidating. Makes it possible and fun! Thank you! Thank you SO much!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I think I'm going to have nightmares for you tonight. I'm so glad you still have all your fingers. I'm so glad though you weren't using my $12 hundred dollar sewing machine., because then my loyalties might have been divided. You are brave in the face of your crafting instincts, I'm hoping you have a guardian angel. I'm afraid I am of the coward variety.

Pam. I've got to tell you. You have inspired me so much. I have been making lots of spirit dolls to sell at my local gallery. But after a dream I had that told me I needed to get back into my unconsciuos more, I felt I needed something to just focus on myself. I started a junk journal, sort of, with lots of my stuff that has been piling up around me. I have even started putting in some text from some of my writing journals. I am using fabric, Gelli prints and old watercolors and decorative paper scraps. Thanks lots for your attitude and the skills I have been learning.

Might I suggest longer stitches? It makes ripping them out easier, but, more importantly, it keeps the paper safer than shorter stitches, because the shorter the stitches the more like a perforation (remember paper mail stamps anyone) they turn out to be. So something like 3.5-4 might be nice. Yours look to be like 2 or even less. How about attaching 5 sheets to one side of the white fabric strips, 5 to the other and then open them up and sew them onto the blue material? There is something called wondertape (I think) which is supposed to be easier on the machine than conventional glue. I either sew or I glue, so I‘m not that familiar with it.

Pam, you did all the hard work of figuring out how to make 8 1/2 x 11 full size page journals. Thank you for doing that and for sharing how to do it. It really is helpful to see the process beginning to end. I appreciate you being willing to do that. I have lots of digi pages and I do not like inserting them East to West into a journal. I much prefer North to South orientation so the whole page can be seen as designed. It’s the OCD kicking in I guess. Anyway thanks. I’m gonna try this with denim, canvas or heavy muslin.

Great tutorial, Pam! Love the idea of a large page journal so may have to give this a try. Wishing you a happy weekend.

There’s a way easier way to do this. Lol no fabric and no sewing machine. I use a hand stitcher... an awl with the string in a bobbin hidden in the handle.

Goodness that was a lot of work. Thanks for answering the question about how to do this. I have been wondering for a while if it was possible/practical. Think I'll use an old ring binder and decorate the file instead.

I wonder if you could take one wider piece of fabric, bunch it around each signature, see, and then bunch/sandwich the next signature next to it and so on. So there would be essentially fabric in the shape of an M and your signature would go in the middle, and then more Ms next to each other.

I would suggest pulling your mic cord inside the back of your shirt. Pull it out through the neck and then pin it, this way you do not have the cord getting into camera view risking cutting it.

I recommend using a beard trimmer to remove stitches. Pull the seam apart and clip between the fabric layers not on top. Easy peasy.

Intresting video like watching junk journal videos ,just a tip when your machine makes a knocking noise and the thread keeps gathering up underneath it like it was it usually means the lint trap needs cleaning out, or your tention needs ajusted

Just a suggestion, why not sew the 10 sheets together alone for each signature and then just glue the sewn pages, signatures, onto the cloth that holds them to the book. That's how I'm gonna do it.

Oh, I was hoping for this. Thank you! You are so inventive! All I could think of to make a larger book was to follow your other methods but using a large sheet of paper that can be folded into large size signatures. That increases the cost, by a lot! Plus, extra large sheets of paper aren’t easy to find.
