Hi. Thank you so much for your video. I've been messing with resin now for a couple years and I always love learning new things. I do have two questions for you. It will be my first time using a shpere mold. 1) how do you get the top and the bottom of the sphere to stick together? I noticed you didn't use anything, but others use tape or hot glue gun (didn't work for me). 2), how long did it take you to buff out the sphere you made when you were done? Was it pretty difficult and timely? Thank you so much for your video. It was perfect. :-)

Hello. The sphere shape that I use is bad by default, I don't recommend it. I filled in the first half and let the resin harden beforehand to keep it in the shape of a ball. I didn’t manage to get it right the first time. There are better quality molds than what I have used. After that there were a lot of improvements, much more than I would like.

great video! so when you buffed the whole ball.. did you put the same resin mixture on sandpaper? what grit is the sandpaper? also did you wait 24hrs and then used that buffing wheel? or you just waited for the resin to turn greyish and then buffed? amazing work!

Thanks, all I can say is that I wouldn't do it a second time. It's better to buy a good uniform than go through the pain of doing it the way I did.
@LUMIGOCHA

Great. I notice you use "grams" as the measure unit for the resin, but how do you know how much is needed in general? What is the density of the resin? I would estimate the volume of the sphere, dom, box, etc. and multiply it by the density to get the grams needed. Is this a good approach?
@TheJewelryFantasy
@TheJewelryFantasy 4 года назад
The problem with the resin I use in her shrinkage. It is possible to make exact measurements, but after some time it will be necessary to supplement the resins, the resin is compressed when hardening. I would now use a method that is used when pouring metal into molds, this method will not let you down.

How do you manage for the sphere not to spill? Is it because you do it in layers?
@TheJewelryFantasy

Only up to half of the sphere in layers, the other half of the sphere poured at once in one layer. But I did not get a perfect sphere because of the poor quality of the mold

Hi You have to have a perfectly smooth shape to avoid polishing. To determine how much resin you need, you can pour water into the mold beforehand, then measure how much water you have.

Hello. The problem is in the resin. Different types of resins react differently to layer thickness. I advise you to find out how thick your resin is designed for.
@ThisOLmaan
@ThisOLmaan 3 года назад
my question how did you keep the Black park of resing from not running down and stay on top edge? cuz i make ball orbs with the silicone ball orb i do eyeball it and squeeze some resin in and run it around to make a ball shell Buy at the top on a hole where you put the resin in the resin will run back down not making a perfect ball i do use UV resin, you understand what I'm trying to say? and urs stayed on the edge how? Plus your resin takes 24 hours mines i just use a UV light and still have to be quick to hit the light on it to get the perfect round form, juz curious, or cloud be the resin type.
@TheJewelryFantasy
@TheJewelryFantasy 3 года назад
Hello. This is a good question. Different resins have a time between the gelling phase and full curing. My resin starts to gel at 25 minutes and it takes another 25 minutes to harden. At about 40 minutes after the start of mixing, I start rotating the forum with the resin, and then only patience, I rotated so for 15 minutes until the resin solidified.
@ThisOLmaan
@ThisOLmaan 3 года назад
@@TheJewelryFantasy : oh ok so you do keep rotating, i was wondering, yes patience is something i need to quickly learn working with resins well depending on the task at hand, yeah like i mentioned i myself have to also keep rotating but i need to turn the uv light B4 hand to start curing or the resin will start running back down not making the perfect orb, now i know practice, and failing makes perfect, but Resin my friend is or can be expensive, unlike polymer clay you can mess up, and fail, till you become better, not as expensive as resin. Well thank you very much for taking the time to respond, to my question, and that piece came out Beautifully.
@TheJewelryFantasy

You can also use a small geared motor or a Screw gun, so as not to manually rotate.

@TheJewelryFantasy

After I mixed the resin with the dye, I left it for 20-30 minutes. When it starts to harden it can be applied. Do not forget to rotate the mold so that the resin solidifies evenly on the walls.

From memory, I can give you some tips. You have to vacuum the resin from the air in it. It is necessary to cover the inside of the mold with a release agent. Pour the resin into the mold slowly using a stick. The resin should be as liquid as possible, it should be heated to 28 degrees before pouring.
