How to make a large eco bespoke Christmas wreath
Ingredients- flexible twigs, moss, mix of winter greens , cones, decor / ribbon to suit.
In this video we show how to create a base for a wreath using twigs, and then how to turn this into a bespoke door wreath. With door wreaths the possibilities are endless - in how you make them and how they can be decorated. Watch and see how we create one that can be composted afterwards.
All you need is to gather your materials, put on some seasonal tunes and get creative!
Better still you could ask a few friends round as well, so you can catch up as you go.
Enjoy the video, and why not make your own version? We would live to see your designs!

I enjoy making natural wreaths - my go to components were lavender, bay tree and rosemary (for a Summer Christmas in the Southern hemisphere). I would gift these to my host which was a pleasant surprise to them as the wreath stayed fragrant as it dried. I constructed my wreath the hard way using florists wire - punishing on the hands - string is so sensible and allows you to work much faster.
@FlowerJoos
@FlowerJoos 7 месяцев назад
Those would be wonderfully fragrant! But that is a lot of work - commercially it is down to speed and ease for the method and the end result is just as nice 😊

I make all my wreath forms when I prune my wisteria, then when Christmas is around the corner, I forage my fresh greens, use biodegradable twine, and create my indoor & outdoor wreaths 🥰. Very earth friendly and very low cost!

Every year, I gather friends & family for a wonderful day together to make wreaths, garlands, and baskety items for indoors & out to decorate for the Holidays. We have sooo much fun, we teach the youngsters then let them do their own thing, we make wonderful items & memories together! We play Christmas music, have a few hot chocolates or coffee (embellished with some Irish Cream for the adults 😀) and truly enjoy the spirit of the season. Here in Michigan USA, we don't use moss, but our creations have always lasted well past when they are needed. One year, I couldn't remove my front door wreath until July because I didn't take it down & a robin had made a nest in it, 😂.
@FlowerJoos
@FlowerJoos Год назад
Thats so cute the robin making a nest - and it would be cosy and a safe in the wreath, even if it was a bit dry. Thank you for sharing your story - and a good way to have fun, socialise and be creative! I also like the Irish coffee addition! Good call! Have a great Christmas and enjoy your creative fun 🤩 🙋🏼‍♂️

What an excellent tutorial!! When you started my patience was already on the simmer, but as always patience and perseverance do pay off. I always see the lovely finished high end wreaths in the stores but they are so pricy, I refuse to pay those high prices. If we can just go and collect the majority of the materials for this wreath and it turned out so exquisite, we can also enjoy and be quite proud of our achievement. I was thinking we can add a nice glitter ball ornament if you should have some spare, but the natural look is perfect. Thank you for showing and sharing, I really appreciate to see that we can do so much alas, I need some encouragement and a show me how for the project. Many blessings, wishing you a wonderful Festive season. Kind regards.

Thank you Donna. Traditionally a wire frame is used, they are cheap and string and ideal if you have big numbers to produce. But this base means it is all biodegradable - and easy enough to make if you only have one or two to make. 😀

So beautiful John!! I am fond of the "natural" look too. I am going to make this using dogwood branches (no moss though, because I would ruin the forest areas) but I think I will do 'just' the lower half of the wreath, leaving the dogwood showing, I realy liked your "mechanic' of twisted branches/twigs in a spirally movement. I found it quite pretty even without the moss and foliage. But the moss was beautiful by itself too! And then the lovely greenery was gorgeous, especially with the cones. So wonderful! Would you send us a photo of what it looks like on your front door? This was a longer video, delightfully relaxing while we watched you create., just what is needed in this busy season. Thanks so much!
@FlowerJoos
@FlowerJoos Год назад
Thank you for your lovely feedback! Glad you enjoyed the video, and hat being longer wasn’t a problem. That’s a good idea of posting a picture - I shall do it on our Facebook page! It was actually too wide slightly for the door, so it is on the wall beside the door. ( the door is one that is two narrow halves, rather than one wide door ) . So next year, slightly smaller, and will check the size first! The spiral always looks nice I think 😀🎄

Wow, thank you so much for this video. I am going to make a very large wreath for a church project and I am glad I came across your video as I never used Moss & twigs before, I just hope it lasts 3-4 weeks indoors 🤞, my concern is how they going to keep it fresh (moist ) without damaging the wall
@FlowerJoos
@FlowerJoos 8 месяцев назад
Thank you. If it gets sprayed regularly then that is the best way to help it last. For protecting the wall you could add plastic at the back to create a barrier for any moisture - so pin on to the back at the base ( like strips of black refuse sack ). This will last 3 months outside, so inside for 3-4 weeks will be no problem if it is looked after. If it gets totally dry then you can soak it - or keep outside and bring in when church is open?
