Great tutorial! A local brewery ask my woodworking friend to make 40 customs beers taps. He make the shape and I engrave their logo! This video is what I needed! :) Thanks!
So I really like this idea... am modifying for my machine use. I have a few questions; so you would recommend using mdf instead of plywood you used? Correct? Would it be beneficial to put a finish on the mdf prior to engraving? Or no finish at all? My last question and maybe the most important, if you are not using a jig and place you material somewhere in the middle, what do you use for hold downs? Or do you not worry about hold downs? I am new to laser (have a diode with air assist). Best jig system I've seen on the internet... great job!
@@craigmowbray4062 I think mdf would be the way to go since the surface is uniform. It probably won’t make any difference for the engraving process just more of a legibility thing. The jig is only for repeating the same engraving so if you’re doing a one off in the middle you probably don’t need hold downs. Sometimes I use the coordinates on the jig as a reference if you’re engraving a square material. For example, putting a small piece of plywood at 100, 100. You can just line up the bottom corner at 100,100. For one off pieces I normally just eyeball it with the preview though.
@thatDIYlife cool thanks. Also how do you get the template squares and everything else to 0,0 so easily? I type in 0,0 and it puts the center of the selected item on 0. How do I quickly align left and bottom like you do?
@@thatDIYlife I had the same issue yesterday, and this morning. Submitted my information/email and never got a response. Great work on the informative video, I'm working through just designing/making my own file based on your setup.
