HOW TO MAKE A "LATTE" AT HOME (moka pot + frother)

Here's a video of how I make a "latte" at home. Purists will absolutely not call this a latte, but to me, it is. It's not possible to get the kind of creamy texture that steam creates when using a battery powered frother, but all things considered, cost included, this is a very affordable way of making a very nice cup of coffee.
Want to try making this at-home latte yourself? Here's the links to what you'll need:

- Handheld milk frother amzn.to/3F9fETC

This is my second Keurig Coffee Brewer. ru-vid.comUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first one lasted 6 years. It worked beautifully until the day it didn't. It was hard to go back to the drip coffee for a couple of days while I waited on my Keurig to get here. There is a huge difference in the taste. Keurig makes a really good cup of coffee. This new one is a little different from my old one. I find putting the water filter in was easier than on the old one. Attaching the water reservoir was also a little different but once I figured it out, it too was easier. This new one has the auto off feature but is not programmable like the old one. Only three cup sizes instead of four. The odd thing for me was how much lighter in weight this one is compared to my old one. More plastic and much less metal in the construction of this one. The price is so much less than the original Keurig that I bought and the coffee tastes the same so all in all I am satisfied.

I like that there are zero wasted motions in preparing your morning cup of coffee! Use your coffee cup to froth milks saves like two jugs! I was switching from a two cans to my eventual coffee cup! No need to ground coffee beans either to get a good cup either.

I purchased a 9-cup pot as I like drinking coffee from a mug. There are suggestions of using a French Press for frothing milk. Since I already have one of those, I'll try that. So, a "Latte" is coffee, with milk and that is precisely what you have made here. Thank you for your video, Ma'am.

You can use a frenchpress to froth the milk. It's more versatile and lasts longer.

That's why i ruined 4 moka pots. I kept them on the fire for too long :/. I thought i should take them off when the bubbling sound was gone but then it's probably too late. Thanks for your help :)

I have been using the same method for several years, so for me, this beats a pod machine hands down. Yes, it takes a little longer than a pod machine, but I love moka coffee, it is way cheaper than using a pod machine, you can make your drink from any of dozens of available beans or pre-ground coffee and you can make just about any of the best coffee recipes from a Moka pot as it is similar, but not the same as expresso.

Bialetti says they designed their Moka pots to be measuring cups, so the correct amount of water touches the bottom of the valve, and the correct amount of medium-fine ground coffee is loosely filled to be level with the rim of the basket. That's the correct ratio of water to coffee. If you want more or less coffee, you must buy a larger or smaller pot for the correct pressure and consistently good results. There are only two Italian RU-vidrs teaching a detailed lesson for beginners on the correct traditional way to use the Moka since 1933. Search for "Annalisa J Moka pot" for the first one. She saved my coffee! Then there's a new one by the "Italian with Bri" channel. I use the stainless steel Bialetti Venus Moka pots, the 2 cup and a 4 cup. I also have a New Brikka, which I love! But the Brikka instead are different from the Moka. I make the Spanish version of Latte, Cafe con Leche, in the same kind of glasses used by Spanish cafes: Duralex Unie clear tempered glass tumblers 8.5 oz. For two glasses, I pour 5 oz of whole milk into each glass, then microwave them by pushing the Beverage button twice, which is 2 minutes in my oven. But first I put my Moka on the stove so the milk will have time to cool a bit before I pour in the coffee.

Starbucks is the most ridiculed coffee in the world by the rest of humanity outside the US. It’s mind boggling that Americans are so one track mind obsessed with it and have no clue at all what real coffee actually is.

Nice video. I like the chill atmos :) but I have to disagree about automated milk frothers producing the same result as the wand you use in this video. I have an automatic frother and it textures the milk far better than the results you can see at 5:12. Not microfoam but not far off. It looks like you've just heated and/or frothed it too much. If you prefer this way then okay, fair enough. You could maybe experiment with pouring the milk onto the coffee and have a go at some latte art?
@orattik
@orattik 3 года назад
I'm glad you've found an automatic frother that works well for you! Please share the make and model, someone might be looking for just that and need a nudge in the right direction ;). Based on my subjective experience, I personally prefer the cost, space and ease of use to result ratio of a frothing wand. I've used several types of machines, for example: - Automatic Graef frother rb.gy/kwvt8g - the bubbles were quite small, but by the time the milk was warm enough to use, the foam was super stiff, not possible to pour. One time I tried preheating the milk, so the frothing time would be shorter, and I actually got it to be quite nice and accidentally made latte art. But overall, it's just a little too much effort for my taste, and I personally like to have as few countertop appliances as possible. - At home Delonghi espresso machine rb.gy/wpjutt - the size makes it really uncomfortable to actually use, overall, not just the steam function. The steam was really weak and mostly just swirled the milk around. It kind of got foamy, but certainly not creamy. - Typical, automatic office coffee machine rb.gy/hdblbw - expensive, takes up a lot of space, difficult to clean, prone to technical issues... The milk foam comes out very bubbly. You think you have a cup of coffee, but 80% of it sticks to the cup. I don't think I've ever had a truly nice cup of coffee from one of these. - Compact pro La Cimbali rb.gy/qibed6 - I love this thing! Once you learn to work the steam, it's the best way to make a latte. Of course it is expensive, big etc.. But one can dream :)

Thanks for the video. It was nicely made ! May I know what type of"Swedish" coffee you used? Since I live currently in Sweden, I got so confused about the different companies that I should be using. I can see things like Arvid Nordquist and Löfbergs among others, but I don't know which is good for moka pot. Thanks :)

@orattik

Pre-ground 😊. I think it's fine to do the extra steps if coffee is your passion and it makes you happy, but for most people it's not practical. Plus I really don't like cluttering the kitchen with small appliances 🙈

Most espressos are ground too fine for the Moka, but espressos sold in Italian grocery stores are the correct medium-fine grind for Moka pots: illy, Lavazza, Kimbo, and Bialetti Perfetto Moka. They usually have a little Moka pot icon on the package.
