Something a little more simple for once, some hairsliders inspired by Mothers Day being right around the corner. Anyone have any other ideas like this? I'm sure some of you guys can figure out how to wear it as armor. ;)
13:23 model/miniature makers also have this problem with finishes dulling their contrast and highlights. The glossier, the worse it is usually. Try using a more matt finish than gloss, and also make the highlights much brighter/more contrasting than you would normally think to do before applying the finish… as always experimenting on scraps before committing like we all have done before 😂 Cool vid, love the knotwork.
Thank you watching you do that made me feel like getting in to it .I have had all the tools for a long time .nut I was a grade to mess it up .but I think sence I found you videos .I think I will do this .
Wonderful project and great timing. My running club is doing a viking themed campout this weekend and I've been trying to think of a gift for the organizer, this is perfect! I just finished making one with a "Viking-ized" version of our club logo. Thanks for the video and the inspiration!
We do these here in Ireland, with the celtic knot design , they are a brilliant gift for the ladies, try looking in the book of Kells for ideas in relation to really old celtic designs, there are some amazing animals and design, great work man, i love this kind of stuff
I don't do anything Christian specifically, sorry. But you can always incorporate those kinds of designs into my patterns. I have limited drawing skills. :)
A really cool simple project, a very nice idea. The leaf in particular was very interesting. A very interesting small project for people not too comfortable with either carving or just working the leather in general.
Very impressive! Im a noob to this but thank you greatly for sharing your knowledge and great skill with us! Have a great week and I am going to try this project☺
I like that orange fall leaf. I recently bought a western oil canvas duster and since I bought it I have been thinking since the shoulder cape is removable it might be cool to have a couple with various designs on it. Doing up a bunch of leaves up like the ones you did and using that would make for a rather interesting option.
I've never played with leather crafting and don't know if I ever will, but ever since I found your page I can't help but watch. Your craftsmanship is beautiful, and videos are so well done it makes me feel like I could make a set of leather armour!
I like using a small seeder as a background, with a little practice it goes fairly quickly and gives a good look. It also allows for getting into those really tight spots.
Beautiful! I love the art. Personally, I wouldn't dye the background part black though. All that work tooling it and it then you can't see it because the color is so dark. But I love the designs and especially that brown leaf.
Yndig! So beautiful! So much skill, time and hard work went into this yet, you made it look easy. You've inspired me - I'll give it a go once my current projects are finished. Got me hooked, first time viewer and new subscriber!
Always strop the blade! Disposable blades too. You’ll get YEARS out of blade and its never dull. I still have my cheap chinese skiving knife and its deadly sharp 2 years later. I strop it every day I use it. The blade edge is a mirror. Also theres a difference between honing, polishing and sharpening. Learn when to apply them to always keep your blades sharp. Great video ! 👍
The trick is, it's the Ronin armor and it was very brief. So I will most likely be doing a Hawkeye build from later in Endgame. His greaves, bracers, etc. Probably fairly soon.
Great looking nice work. I have made some feathers and Oak leaf with 7-9 oz and got them good and wet from both sides. Twist them whole they are wet then let dry. They turned out really nice and hold that shape. Thank you.
Hey Magnus! Just got around to watching this one. This type of thing is actually some of the first projects I've done. Yours look great! Just some more ideas that worked for me- on leaves, try a double beveller in the veins. Looks nice if you use a pear shader in some places to push in shapes too. For the sticks I used the really heavy bamboo skewers, and once cut to length, sharpened the ends in a pencil sharpener. Then just sand it smooth. I do Celtic knotwork too, and if you're up to trying more, you can learn simpler ways to get basic shapes with a laid out framework of dots and breaklines. Then it almost does itself. Of course, you'd still have to do the embellishing parts free hand. Keeping it creative! Thanks for the awesome videos.
Oh, and I don't know if you have ever used any vegetan belly- but don't for these. Too stretchy and the shape gets wonky since there's no structure to the piece to hold it firm. But you probably knew that. ;)
When I put on ma leather, and rock to sum Metallica, Delta Parole, Foo Fighters or the Smashing Pumpkins I feel like I can do anything in the whole wide world.
Hey Magnus, If i wanted to start with leather carving like yours, what are the absolute beginner tools you would recommend? Maybe not super expensive, so we can see first if we like leather working in general. Thank you very much and please keep up the good work. Your videos are always super calming and amazing to watch!
Hey man it would be awesome if you could make a storefront on the Canadian Amazon site! Ordering stuff off the .com site to Canada isn't always possible.
First and foremost, great video (as always) and thank you for all the work, patterns, and help you have provided to the leatherworking and crafting community. I realize that this video is a couple years old and merchandise changes with cost and creativity. But do any of your shirts still have the writing on the back? I wanted to but a couple for some of my friends that I served with during my time in the military. Sorry for the lengthy post and I appreciate your time.
I got on it right away for you. So this has the original front and back from my OG design. I had changed the front a bit but I figured if I was doing this shirt I should do it justice by keeping the same images exactly. darkhorseworkshop.com/collections/t-shirts/products/serpent-vulknut-epic-words
Hi! Great Project. I have a ceramic blade and it's dull, came that way. How does one sharpen a ceramic blade, I can't find any info on it, anywhere!!! I have no problem sharpening my other leatherwork knives, this ceramic one is driving me nuts!! Help!!
Try a diamond stone and/or charging a leather strop with diamond honing paste. Lee Valley (woodworking supply catalog) stocks diamond stones and honing paste if you don't know where to find it. Note: I've not done this with a ceramic blade but there's no reason it shouldn't work since the diamonds will be harder than the blade.
Where would you say is a decent place to get leather from? I live in Adelaide in Australia and finding it hard to find leather. Also what leather do you usually use?
Are serpents and Celtic knitting really so hard? I'm half Slav and in school, we used to draw doodles of those types, maybe because of our pagan origins kids likes to do them even now. They may be not the exact same but in the core, I see a lot of similarities. Either way, great clip, and nice work!
I'm going back through old questions. Ceramic in theory doesn't really need sharpening. I buff it up a bit with rouge anyways to kind of polish it, but I've always found it a much nicer / smoother cut.
i just got an order of leather in to make some of these last week and im thinking it might be to light of a weight its 3-4 ounce.do you think i can still use this or do i need to get 5-6 ounce
How can you tell what ounce your leather is if you're not buying it from a supplier? I've got tons of scraps (just bought more, in fact) but I think everything I have would be too thin.
