The very first sandwich I ever learned to perfect was a Reuben. I think it was my very first account of true love. While this week's sandwich isn’t totally a Reuben, it’s not totally not one either.
It was so delicious and I hadn’t had anything like it in a minute. it was made by some people I really like.
Make this sandwich and then show me!

THE INGREDIENTS
Pastrami
American Cheese
Hot Mustard
Rye Bread
Pickles
Russian Dressing
Slaw :
1/4 Cabbage (green and or red) ,
1 tbsp dill,
1 carrot
Dressing:
6 tbsp olive oil.
7-8 tbsp apple cider vinegar,
1 tbsp mayo,
1-2 tbsp honey,
pinch of salt and crack of pepper
How To: MAKE THAT SANDWICH
MAKE YOUR SLAW:
Slice cabbage into thin ribbons. Or chop. Or buy it pre-chopped (I’ll never judge you)
Shred carrot
Chop dill (as much or as little as you like)
MAKE YOUR DRESSING:
Add honey into a jar
Add vinegar and give a shake or stir to dilute it
Add salt & do the same
Add oil
Add mayo
Stir & add cracked pepper
Taste it and adjust flavors according to your sweet little tastebuds
Only add a bit of dressing at a time to the slaw. Do not drench it. Coat and stir.
Turn on your frying pan to medium
Spread hot mustard on the bottom piece of rye.
I used dark rye because I love it. All rye is delicious & I just wanted a bit of flair for my sandwich. It’s 2020
Add cheese (somehow Monterey Jack got on there also. Not a problem by any means)
Layer slices of Pastrami
Add slaw on top. (Be sure to lift it out of any excess liquid)
Take the top piece of bread and spread a nice layer of Russian Dressing - if you don’t buy it pre-made just mix some ketchup into mayonnaise. Yes. It’s that easy.
Place the top piece on the sandwich.
Coat the top of the piece in mayo - butter if you insist on it.
The pan should be nice and hot by now
Flip the mayo coated side onto the pan then lightly coat the top piece of the bread that is facing you with the mayo then place a lid on top.
After 3 minutes lift the lid and see if there is nice melting happening;
If so give the sandy a flip and put the lid back down.
After another 2-3 minutes, you can check
Take it off the heat.
Slice
Eat very fast or practice mindful eating.
