Thanks so much. I’m still working on your last variation (as well as a few others) but I thought I would share my experience in case you are still thinking about variations. We weren’t able to get elastic so my masks have all been ties and I started with skate laces and moved to the softer t-shirt material, which has worked very well. However, the husband much prefers styles that avoid his ears and use Velcro along the back of the neck. Know you are creative so I wondered it this might spark an interest. Take care and thanks for all your efforts: I lost count of all the masks I’ve made (the first were “rough”) but folks are so appreciative and the process has helped me feel productive.
Hi there, I have been enjoying your masks for too long..... I really like the zip tie masks and am about to make one for my bearded beauty. I'll make a few ordinary zip tie ones k=later, but the man's comes first, so he'll see the value of my sewing machine. With the right filter material these will be good for the smoke of this tragic year as well. Thank you for your cheery site.
This is similar to the one I have sewn, but it has elastic along the bottom and up to just below the cheekbone area. so it cups the beard area and creates a seal at the neck. But the straps go around the head not the ears. Now the zip ties and new filter material have come into play I am going to have to sew another one. You have to get to a 20 masks of 2020 video now. 🤣🤣
Thank you for being so kind. Let me know if you make it. I actually like it for myself even. Having a bit of ventilation on the side is nice. Even though it’s not “sealed” tight (how can you have a tight seal with the beard?) I think it will give adequate protection as long as the wearer practices self distancing too.
@@TheSewingChannel I will let you known I will be looking to find the zip ties and it is going to be worked on this weekend. I am thinking of trying chiffon for the barrier in the mask. An article I read from a Chicago University on keeping the moisture controlled and that 2 layers of chiffon or silk work as a electro charge when the virus comes in contact. They did a study on materials that are good for making masks. You are one of a few people I follow and find your thinking and thought process on the mark
With this one -the filter had a stiff feel so it does exactly what you said as well. 👍✅ I am new to the zip tie method. But I am really liking it for sure! 😷👍✅
Hi, Did you cut the Inner Layer (Lining) the same size as the Outer Layer to accommodate the Zip Tie or did you cut it as indicated on the Pattern? Thank you!!
If you put the “boned” piece on the interior, wouldn’t it then keep the lining from collapsing as you breathe and still push the exterior layer outward? Or is there heat bond sealing the front and back layers together?... I can’t recall
I've been looking for this exact mask be in plain blk. I wonder if anyone has made these for sale with be the zip tie for shape and the nose piece. I work in the public and desperately need this with my beard and handlebar moustache. Please feel free to Message me if anyone can help. Thx.
Okay, black Olefin cannot be sewn upon, no little holes, but the white can be sewn upon? Please clarify this for me, I am lead to believe both black and white are Polypropylene. ? Confused ?
Both are made of polypropylene. Both do same thing. But the grey is thinner version- more for an insert so (tad more delicate). The white I have is much sturdier - it can take more washing machine/ dryer action without degrading. (That’s why we sew it in). Even though the grey can be wash/dryer- if you hand wash and dry it last longer. The more care you take with either - the longer they will last. Does that help?
All elastic has a different stretch so it’s hard to tell you exactly. If I’m using real stretchy then 5/6” - if not real stretchy then it will be more like 7/9”.
