How To Make A Metal Spartan Helmet

Well about that... you see for some of us they are expensive. For the initial cost of buying every single one of those tools, I simply do not have $1500-$2000 to drop even on Harbor Freight grade metal working tools. I barely had enough money to go out a buy one of their cheapest flux coated wire fed mig welders with basic accessories and safety gear. I still don't have the money to go out and purchase an English wheel. Those other tools like what were shown in the video such as the sheet metal hammers and die sets, I can't find those anywhere, not even Harbor Freight for that matter, not even The Home Depot or Auto Zone sells hammer and die sets. I still have no clue where I'm suppose to find giant sheets of 18 to 16 gauge thick sheet metal that doesn't already have shit prestamped in it. Not exactly an item Walmart has in stock. Also you need a safe place where you can do hot works, preferably a shop. I know if I got caught attempting to do any welding out in the parking lot of where I live, I'd probably get into a lot of trouble with the base fire marshal, base police department, and the building manager. That's why I haven't even gotten a chance to use my welder yet. Trust me this is a long overdue project that I've been wanting to take on for the last 7+ years, I just simply don't have the money, tools or material. It is so much easier and cheaper to get wood and to take on elaborate carpentry projects than it is to get into the metal artisan, craft, and metal forgery.

Nero Smith don't let that stop you! You be surprised with what you can make from bits you can find lying around. A simple hammer,any bit of metal as a punch and a hollowed tree stump is enough to get you going.

Exactly right. Though this is interesting to watch as if it were a "how it's made" episode, most people will never EVER own this type of equipment and are not willing to fork over a few grand just to make a spartan helmet. Not to mention the need for ample shop space, which not every one has. On top of that, sheet metal is got dam expensive. Best to just buy the prop on ebay or whatever.

These are tools common to all metal workshops. When you got what you need, fabricating stuff like this is such a joy to do.

TiredOldDad1 thank you. yes it could do 14 gage but 12 gage is a little to thick. if you making a helmet you'd want to use 18 or 20 gage.
