Build this awesome helmet yourself, or pick one of four additional helmet designs included with the template! In this video I show you how simple it is to make a genuine, metal helmet with tools you likely already have in your garage. In addition to the design in the video, the template includes four other designs (five total). Build this "Spartan Wraith" helmet, a Traditional Greek helmet, a 300 Style Spartan helm, a Viking helm, and a Roman helmet...all from the same template! Be sure to check out my other videos for all different kinds of armor

@koffeErixon
@koffeErixon 7 лет назад
I can imagine them running into an army with MY attempt at this design also, actually that would be equally effective but instead of them being scared to death they all started laughing to death :) But I had fun trying anyway and that was worth a lot too, I don't feel the need to have something to show afterwards, the process in itself was reward enough for me! And next time perhaps will be better. Damn, I lack that piece of artist in me unfortunatly. I have to focus on armour that is without those extra artistic pieces, although all armouring need some artistic skill there are those that need more than others!

It's also not as expensive as you might think, particularly if you plan on making a hobby out of this. The tools are a little bit of an up-front investment, but they'll last for a very long time and have other uses. The metal itself is quite cheap. Apart from that, I've learned from my own experience making mock-up boffer lightsabers that making something that looks good isn't so much about talent or skill so much as trial-and-error and patience.

+David Guyton Awesome tutorial! 2 short questions: - Which type of steel are you using? Is it rustproof? - And what to use as rivets? Everything I tried so far just bent...
@DavidGuyton
@DavidGuyton 8 лет назад
This is regular sheet steel you can get from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. It's not stainless and will rust if you leave it outdoors. For rivets you can use any kind of metal rid cut to length. I sometimes just use nails. In this case, it's 1/4" copper rod. It just takes some time getting used to how rivets work. If they are always bending, you probably are cutting them too long. Try them a little shorter and see how they do.

@DavidGuyton
@DavidGuyton 7 лет назад
Actually the eyes were started with a large drill bit. Put twp holes close together and you can snip out the little piece of metal between them, making a bigger hole. That hole is large enough to get the snips in there and start cutting. After you get all the metal out that you can, use a Dremel tool or files to perfect the shape

Nice! I just discovered your videos. I love metal shaping, I'm getting a bit more practice and improving and loved picking up a few tips from you. Definitely going to use a bit of rubber between the anvil and the piece. Makes total sense. And the socket is a nice thing. Sometimes you end up using something that is lying around and it works. The helmet is gorgeous! Thanks.
@Sei783
@Sei783 7 лет назад
A thing that has always perplexed me even though I work as an artist and I love physics is just how fluid hard surfaces really are. The steel that you're working with, for example, is a testament to that fact. As you are molding, refining, and shaping your piece, it's almost like working with very stiff clay --at least from my perspective as I watch this thing take shape.
@DavidGuyton
@DavidGuyton 7 лет назад
yeah people are always surprised at how easy it is to move metal around once you start hammering on it. It can be stubborn at times but mostly it does what you want it to do

Disgusting, absolute garbage, give it to me so I can dispose of it properly. Ill give you my PO box, ship it there in a box full of packing peanuts and carefully wrapped it in bubble wrap, we don't want it contaminating anything else...
