Here's a tutorial on how to make a paracord sling.
Sorry if its hard to follow and if the text is too fast (you can pause while you're reading).
I figured out this design by looking at other peoples designs online and combining different techniques and knots I knew. You can do the same and just take parts of this design and change others, sling making is a journey.
shoutout to practical paracord, his design inspired me big time.

I just finished making this. This sling here is a real TANK. It’s hefty, it’s got a huge BUCKET for a pouch, and it feels good in the hand. All this, and I haven’t even thrown anything with it yet. Thanks for the tutorial man!

How does it look/hold with marbles or pebbles(the size of marbles)? there aren't too many rocks(>1.5~2inches) around here. If I can be nitpicky about the tutorial, if it's sped up, I think it would be wise if the camera was around your head or throat looking down, if it's sideways, I think it's wise if it's not too sped up. Great tutorial overall btw! 😅

@roaddog7080
@roaddog7080 3 года назад
Thanks, sorry i think the way i showed it in the video is kind of complicated but its pretty straightforward. Once you tie the knot at the start of the pouch youll have 6 strands. Seperate them into 2 groups of three strands them do a simple over under weve on both groups. In order to join the 2 groups at the ends of the pouch you just have to include the middle most string frm the other group in your weave for about the first 3 and last 3 stiches on both sides of ths pouch. You dont have to do it specifically like this but i find a simple 3 strand weave works well.

@crusadertf2807

Well, I’ve made a modification to mine. I added a little mini adjustable net onto the pouch like Practical Paracord does with his slings. With this, your sling can handle a huge variety of rocks, since you can change the size of the pouch on the spot.
@deltafour1212
@deltafour1212 2 года назад
HUGE ADVANTAGE.! I have a single string leather pouch sling and Practical Paracord Smiley Sling. This design wins hands down. It has more stiffness and beef to it, so you can throw rocks way farther with more accuracy and clean consistent release with a LOT more velocity and power than you ever could with a single string leather pouch. I loved my leather pouch sling because it was simple to make and you could sling anything out of it die to the cup design of the pouch.. That was until I tried this design and I never looked back. I don't even use my leather sling anymore

The original strands are the ones you started the 4 strand braid with. You add the the two new strands into the four strand braid. You keep doing the four strand pattern but instead 2 of the strands in the 4 strand braid are doubled up. This way you can put 6 strands into a 4 strand braid.

@dragoscoco2173
@dragoscoco2173 3 года назад
@@roaddog7080 The efficiency difference is not big but you can feel it slinging. The design chosen is a rather ancient one (slinging.org) with dubious strength rope being the norm during those ancient days, so it made a lot of sense with natural cordage. But it is just my opinion that paracord is overkill, or if done with modern materials it can be a bit faster, as anyone in the ancient world would have done it if ever getting the chance.

@@philbowflaggon8363 I've been thinking of using some 325 myself, I'm using 550 and it feels a bit thick. I'll try it on my next one
@dragoscoco2173
@dragoscoco2173 3 года назад
@@philbowflaggon8363 After reviewing the math department on slinging sites I redesigned my sling as the forces on the strings barely get to 40 lbs in the best throw you can achieve. So I switched to some 2mm cordelette that is rated for 80 pounds (2 strings would be 160 lbs). Also string length is quite important and the longer the better and easier to master, but in practice if you hold the sling with a stone hanging with a few inches above ground it should be enough for most throw types. For durability brading the 3 inches right next to the pouch to protect the loaded release string is a must as that portion sees most of the wear and tear from releasing the stone.
@dragoscoco2173
@dragoscoco2173 3 года назад
@@roaddog7080 325 is super good enough in the strength department even with one string per side. For the visual aspect I suppose there is a limit to how thin the strand can be until the braid starts to become less noticeable and for a braided design that workmanship is the whole point. Also did you consider passing a string in between the two pouch braids to make something akin to a net, for some reason i had trouble with this type in throwing smaller stones as some just fell through.
